  • Unregistered fork lift trucks 15 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The road is public - lots of factories and offices around. The fork lift was one of those gas powered jobbies but they also have some battery powered ones too. I am concerned that if these are not registered and taxed they won't be insured either. What would happen if there was an accident? Can I report them to someoen?
  • I have a question. Volume 10 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I don't really want to have to buy a new phone and am a bit annoyed since i payed 200 quid for it about 1 and half years ago. Could it be the battery playing up??? Is it worth having it repaired? Any advice that will save me money will be much appreciated!
  • Peugeot 306 XRDT Queries 14 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I think it's got remote, central locking, alarm and immobiliser but the plip doesn't work remotely (the central locking works but I have to do it manually). I've just put new batteries in the plip and the little red light flashes briefly so that seems to be ok. I've just been reading how to programme plips so will give it a go tonight. Why would I have to re-programme a plip anyway ?
  • Annoying car alarm - New Police Powers? 7 Sep 2003 (Forum)
If not, does anyone know how you can open the bonnet of an L reg metro without causing any criminal damage to disconnect the battery? H
  • New Micra shock breakdown! 27 May 2003 (Forum)
I'm pleased I bought a Ford now, so much more reliable :-) But I suppose in Nissan's defence, the RAC man said that this was the first time he had a new Micra go kaput all together, the only other one he attended was a battery problem... Oh, and to give the RAC their due, they were there within 30 minutes... Blue
  • Clio:Stalling & Starting problems 2 May 2003 (Forum)
I have a Clio 98 'R' reg 1.2 which keeps cutting out on me with no indication that its about to.It will cut out on me while i am in motion or at a stand still.Once it has cut out i cant start the car immidiately,it takes anywhere between 15 mins to 4hrs to start agian. The engine turns over OK and ive fitted a new battery & plugs. After reading one of the other reports on Clio starting problems it was suuggested that the (CTS) should be changed,i did this as it was a cheap option, but still have the problem.Even popping down to my local shops which is only 5 mins away,i know that when i get back into my car it probably will not start. My travelling time every day is only 15-20 mins (to & from work).Starting the car in the mornings is no problem, whatever the weather.
  • Non-functioning alarm remote control 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The Toyota dealership has opened the unit and the circuit board looks as though there is some corrosion on it. They've also tried fitting a new battery, but the performance was not improved. My understanding is that if the unit is used to set the immobiliser/alarm system (it's a Toyota 5000 Thatcham I device) and then it fails, it will not be possible to use the car until the whole set-up is replaced at some cost (>£200, I'm told).
  • Wet Rover won't start 30 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I'm on first name terms with the breakdown guys whose advice I've taken to try diferent fixes. All of the following is new in the last 12 months - battery, starter coil, all plug leads, plugs, distributor cap/rotor arm, vacuum pipes for starter sequence, air filter and the engine bay relays. I've also fitted a rubber coil cover off of a later model and cleaned all of the low tension leads from the ECU but all to no avail even after a liberal soaking of WD40.
  • Cavalier alarm/immobiliser disable? 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
, it's guaranteed one of the two things will happen: 1) I put the key in the door, open it and the alarm goes off. 2) I open the door fine, but when try to start it, the immobiliser goes off, then the indicators flash until the battery is flat. It will work just fine later in the day when it's a bit warmer and drier. The alarm/immobiliser is a factory fit item and is operated by the key - there is no keyfob or immobiliser chip in the key in this system.
  • Alternative power. 4 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The thread about performance bargains of the year mentioned a never-ending power source from two AA batteries etc... What happened to the hydrogen fuel cell engine? Modern myth has it that oil companies bought the patent and buried it. Anyone read Gridlock by Ben Elton will have heard this one before.
  • Seat Ibiza Sport 2011 - Seat Ibiza Sport - Help please 26 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Good evening, i have owned my seat Ibiza since august 2019 from second and and never had any issues until 2020 when I noticed an issue with the central locking not locking and the key fob just flashing red, which i thought the battery's need changing which i did. however since then on the car cuts out completely and everything including the hazard lights wont work, it seems to be when the steering wheel is all way round it turns everything off and i see a orange steering wheel light on the dash.
  • Hard Use Electric Car Range 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
On the way back, at night, cold, wet, I'd have had headlamps on, air con + heating, radio, phone charging,  and stop and start driving for 2.5 hours - covering just 22 miles.I really wonder how long the battery would last stop and go with all the accessories on. Everyone seems to judge range by driving non-stop around the M25 - yet how many people do that? Anyone with an electric car got practical knowledge?
  • Toyota Avensis - tapping noise after oil changed 30 Nov 2020 (Forum)
First by Toyota and then after a few years by a local garage just across the road from me.  Never had any problems with the car until this month, only new battery and brake parts such as pads, discs and pipes to the back.. Had the car serviced and I can hear a tapping rattle from the engine when it is cold. I think the garage used the wrong oil because this was not there before the service.
  • Ford Galaxy mk2 - Over Voltage problem 28 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I took it to SMC fords for a diagnostic check and there are no fault Codes comping back. They suggested replacing the battery which they did however less than 24 hours after they did this I get the same problems again. Recently the car has had a new clutch, new fuel injectors, new fan control module, and had the coolant system replaced on a Ford recall.
  • Electric cars are green? Not very. 13 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Last June a group of scientists led by Professor Richard Herrington, the Natural History Museum’s head of earth science, warned the government that to replace all cars on British roads with EVs, UK demand for the batteries needed would require almost twice the world’s current yearly supply of cobalt, the total amount of neodymium produced globally every year, three-quarters of the world’s annual supply of lithium and at least half its copper supply.
  • Volvo XC60 - dash cam replacement 6 Feb 2020 (Forum)
You have to go online and download all sorts of stuff even just to playback on your laptop. Has been temperamental and now the residual battery does not hold charge so when detached it is dead. I am fed up and simply and want to ditch it and replace it. This presents two problems. Firstly what to change it for? Then secondly i suppose the mounting will be exclusive and therefore useless for a replacement.
  • Vauxhall Ampera - Worth a punt ? 20 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Two specific cars have caught my eye - the Mitsubishi i-MIEV/Peugeot Ion/Citroen C-Zero and the Vauxhall Ampera/Chevrolet Volt - I'd welcome opinions on these bearing in mind they're 8 years old and out of warranty. I also considered the Renault Zoe but at this age, they all need a leased battery which puts the cost up way too high.
  • Mercedes C350 Cdi Sport Auto - C350 Diesel cuts out at 70mph and engine will not 2 Aug 2019 (Forum)
The ignition lights were bright but turning the key did nothing. No dimming of the lights to indicate low battery and no cranking of the engine. I had to have the car recovered and taken to my local MB garage. After 3 days they still can't identify a fault. The said the starter motor was not able to spin fast enough, but I was sceptical and sure enough replacing it didn't resolve anything.
  • 9649846780 Alternator help (C4 GRAND PICASSO) 28 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I understand the alternator(-) is connected via the physical bolt connection to the engine and the alternators (+ to battery) is via the large nut/bolt under the plug connection on the alternator ref (B+). I need to know what other electrical connections need to be connected to this alternator to make it work and produce sufficient charging current.
