  • VAG - VAG EA211 and Ford 1.0 Ecoboost engines 11 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Wondering how the new belt drive TSi units from VAG and the small Ford 1.0 Ecoboosts are doing in the real world. They've been out for 2 or 3 years now, there must be some information as to reliability and durability. I ask out of no particular reason except an interest in such things.
  • Can I buy a new car if DVLA have wrong address? 12 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Hi, have just joined in hopes someone can help with this. My car has broken down and not worth repairing. The address on my driving license and lig book is out of date I know I need to change asap or face a fine. There’s a complication that means I cant use online service so will need to send driving license and logbook away to make the change at it could take 6 weeks.
  • Parking in a supermarket car park 23 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Admittedly it is a small sample size, but most of the problems seem to arise as people try to reverse into a space. I usually drive in nose first and reverse out, based on the simple reason I find it easiest. So it got me wondering, am I right? Or should I be reversing into a space and then I have an easier exit? My logic in a supermarket is that by driving into a space I have easier access to the boot area for the shopping.
  • Do i need one? - 'Crit'Air' clean air stickers ... 8 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Next week driving to Aix-la Chapelle via Houyet south of Dinant, where there is a lovely lttle hotel for 3 nights of gastronomic treats, wishing to avoid the madhouse that is the Bruxelles motorway network.. Had thought of driving the "old " A25 motorway down from Dunkerque to Lille, the across to Namur then down to Houyet.
  • Ford Fiesta - Coolant leak 1 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I topped it up (actually above the max line) and the coolant dropped below the minimum line after about 70 miles of driving.  I'm just wondering the best way to go about fixing it. I'm unemployed right now, so I was considering trying to fix it myself because a) I'm not driving much anyway and b) I'm impecunious.
  • Rights when buying a car 11 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I brought a car from a dealer, just under 2 months ago, since then its had numerous issues that didnt present themselves during the test drive, around a few weeks after purchase the car starts to misfire and judder, so repairs were done and it was cured for a few weeks,  now the car is useless,  engine lights on like a christmas tree, limp mode and the car misfires, and drives like rubbish, the garage have been helpful so far and paid for some repairs but ive also shelled out quite a bit,  I just feel this soon into buying it and spending quite a bit of money buying the car, its not really ideal, ive lost all faith in the car now, what are my rights on the matter?
  • Tire maintenance 19 May 2021 (Forum)
My understanding is that this can be due to tram lining, the crowning of the road, even a small amount of tire pressure difference, etc, is this right?  2) During driving, is it normal to see tire pressure drop by 1psi but then generally increase as tires get warm? Increasing is normal, but is it normal to see the pressure drop while driving too? 3) I have also noticed that one tire is slower to warm up than the other three.
  • Ford Fiesta 2009 1.4 / Mazda 2 Sport (2008) - Second Hand - Fiesta 2009 or Mazda 2 Sport (2008) 18 May 2021 (Forum)
I am currently looking at a Ford Fiesta (2009), Petrol 1.4, 96CV and a Mazda 2 (2008), Petrol 1.5, 103CV.  I need a reliable, small car to drive to and from work daily. Once a year I'd like to be able to drive across France and Spain if possible. I'd like something that is reliable and can overtake without issues on the motorway.  What would you recommend between these two cars?
  • 30,000 gallons of Water to put out Tesla S Fire 26 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Pictures show horrific aftermath, I doubt there will be anything left of any black box recording to download driving data, so we may never know what was going on. Raises many questions regarding Teslas  "autopilot" and autonomous cars in general AND lithium batteries in cars.

  • Ford Transit Connect 2008 - Selling privately a van thats is not insured/taxed 17 Mar 2021 (Forum)
How should I let someone test drive it because it is not taxed or insured.  It does have 6 months MOT? I assume I should insist on cash? Hopefully I have covered what is necessary, thank you for any assistance
  • Driver closing the gap when changing lanes 18 Feb 2021 (Forum)
It seems driving styles have changed over the years, and people have become more selfish and dangerous.  It seems when you are changing lanes, you have to force the other driver to back down, slow down to give you space.
  • a Newer car. Used. Your suggestions 30 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I was thinking about a Lexus ct200h or Toyota Prius, but from the review I understud that a hybrid is more of a city car. And I live outside the city, I do not stand in traffic jams, I live in the suburbs, but I often drive on dirt roads and there are also intercity trips, the driving style is not hasty. Does a hybrid make sense or is a diesel better? The choice of cars is so large, and I'm at a loss, how to start the search?
  • Suzuki Vitara - Does a ‘15 Vitara roll more than an ‘03 Fabia? 19 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Then I realised that he’s driving the S version with stiffer suspension which is probably out of my budget. I’m also interested in the Ignis but with no steering reach adjust I doubt I’d be as comfortable as in the Vitara. The Kadjar and Peugeot 2008 might be other options.
  • Honda Jazz - Garage advice please 17 May 2020 (Forum)
Hi I'm really new to driving so just need some advice.  Someone went into the front of my car 2 weeks back, the repair garage has picked it up (they drove it there) it was driving fine when I was using it. An hour later they called me and said the guy has just come back but your clutch has gone and they worked out how much it's going to cost me, but do I just take their word for it?
  • Private plate query 16 Apr 2020 (Forum)
My car has a private plate, just before the lockdown we bought an ex demo Puma, but couldn’t pick it up until, as it turns out , would have been this weekend, obviously I want to transfer the plate over, and I understand that I have to pay £80 to put it on retention, but, I’m not sure what to do next, if I put the plate on retention I will be issued a new number plate, great, but will I be able to get a set of plates made up due to the current situation?, I understand I can’t drive it on my old number as it’s done immediately ( online) , yes the car I’m buying has been registered so I could drive that home and put the plate on later, just not sure about my current car,
  • Bangernomics 16 Apr 2020 (Forum)
It’ll largely be the dogs chariot right enough, that and it’ll be used for abandoning at the pub or station in place of our other more valuable metal but the drive home in my £250 car was grin inducing. The two elderly owner Toyota Corolla 1.3 5dr (one used it for his gardening business so it’s a bit of a tip inside) is rattle free and drives spot on and all for less than the cost of a major service on our CRV.
