  • Long Vehicle in London 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
If I drive an 18 metre (56ft) long vehicle through central London, do I need to inform the police and maybe have a escort?
  • HGVs & Coaches on the Motorway 9 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Why are coaches permitted to drive at 70mph on the motorway (but banned from the third lane) whilst HGVs are restricted to 60mph (and held down to 56mph by the limiter)?

  • New car - making a shortlist 28 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I don't want to reach 5000 rpm just getting back to 70 mph fron 50 mph on a motorway. Nissan Qashqai     Very comfortable and excellent driving position.  But the steering seems curiously remote from the car as a whole.  Good acceleration from the 1.6 pwetrol turbo but no fun to drive. Renault Kadjar     I haven't tried one but the only petrol engine is a 1.2 and the top 1.6 diesel has only 130 bhp.
  • BMW, Audi, Lexus - What to Choose??? 27 Jan 2016 (Forum)
The cons, more expensive running costs been a 2.5l petrol and much higher Tax bracket and a lifeless driving experience.  I know the IS300h is also a prety decent car with better fuel economy but not really seen many people comment on how it is to drive where as the is250 has alot of people saying it's very refined.
  • Volkswagen Golf - MK6 Golf - Purchasing Query 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I need the car for commuting to work, which is 18 miles each way, 3 to 4 days a week. This is combination of A roads, B roads and a bit of city driving (2 miles). I anticipate driving 10-12.5K miles a year, mostly on the above roads (rural North Yorkshire). There won't be a great deal of motorway driving.  I would like at a minimum the SE/Match Spec, as the S is very basic on a Mark 6 Golf.
  • Kia Venga 2 - 1.4 Petrol, Manual, 2016 - User Opinion 4 May 2020 (Forum)
Average 32-35 mpg, which is not great, but it is not too bad for the number of miles we do, it increases when we do long drive, but we drive around the city 90% of time around. The USB MP3. Don't use very big size USB sticks. I used a 32GB one and it got stuck from time to time. I am using now an 8GB one and I have no problems, and I have plenty of music.
  • BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe - BMW buying experience 30 Oct 2017 (Forum)
This car had all the options that I wanted and was ideal however when I called the dealership this is what I am left with -    - No option to transfer the car to another franchise garage (Coopers in York is closest to me as I am in Dewsbury) - They can drive the car to me for a cost of £250 for me to look at and test drive at my convenience but if I decide to buy it I cannot keep the vehicle due to some distance selling rule. The car has to be taken back to Ipswich and there is no option for it to be taken another franchise garage (York) - This adds unnecessary mileage to the car, especially if/when I have to go back and drive it back to my home - this is a  392 mile round trip. 392 x 2 = 784 miles...close to 1000 miles to buy the car.
  • Which used estate would you buy-petrol or diesel? 26 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Ideally I would buy the car in 12 months time when my driving habits change, but I just can't do that and  due to necessity, I need to buy a car now that will last me for a good 7 years or so. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Octavia or Leon as I can seem to be able to get better spec value than the Golf and most reviews of the Cee'd say it's boring to drive and perhaps even a little underpowered.
  • Mazda MX-5 - Owner's Diary 2 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Well I have done an owner's review for the main site and I have now got a bit of time to add one to the forum, in the manner of Craigpd's Volvo V60 review. I have had the MX-5 for 10 days now, and I've done about 230 miles in it, all mixed driving at the moment.  Been bezzing it up and down the M6 and driving around town too. Driving it: As I said, mixed driving so far.  It performs excellently in town traffic; the clutch and gearbox are really decent (Mr B prefers it over the Mazda 6) and it's not a chore to get stuck in a bit of traffic.
  • Looking for a new motor - feedback welcome 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I drive about 10k miles a year, with the bulk of my driving being a 6 mile trip to work and back on city roads every day but a trip to my parents is a 600 mile round trip so whatever vehicle I get needs to be good around town but capable of long motorway journeys without exploding or giving me a headache.
  • New Zealand - Driving Experience 10 Mar 2009 (Forum)
People seem to drift on other side of road on bends. Read of at least 7 or 8 deaths whilst here. 5. Driving the South Island, (population 1 million but bigger than England) is fantastic for scenery and believing you are in the only motor vehicle in the world. Set off from Twizel to drive to Christchurch this morning at 7am, didn't see a single other car until 8.30am !

  • Vauxhall Vivaro - Fuel injector? 28 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Hi, I'm getting confused information from the van itself and two garages I've taken it to...the injectors were replaced 18 months ago, a month ago it stuttered when going through 3rd into forth, fourth into fifth, STOP light flashed on then immediately off...I had it looked at, told it's driving fine, but when diagnosed the reading says injector no.1...but the van drives fine again to a degree and STOP light not come on, I feel it will if I get up to 60mph however, but reading injector issues, it's not misfiring, it's not leaking, no noises, starts great everytime...so i dont get it...I have bought a decent reviewed cleaner and additive to mix into the fuel tank...any input off you guys be greatly appreciated
  • Economy run 12 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Last Thursday did round trip Fordsham - Shrewsbury - Wenlock - Craven Arms and return by A49, 140 miles, mostly A roads with about 20% B roads, mostly light traffic, with short hold-up on Shrewsbury east bypass.  Total 4 hours driving - I neither bimble nor hustle. After nearly 15 years with this car ** I have found that its mpg calculation is fairly accurate,  I am used to getting 65-67 mpg on this kind of journey, but on this occasion it managed 70mpg, the figure in the car's handbook for inter-urban driving (4.0 litres/100km = 70.5).
  • Using the starter to move the car in an emergency 31 May 2023 (Forum)
Suddenly, helped by liquid refreshment, we remembered our early days of driving. Being young and keen we attended courses (that would now be called advanced driving but really everyone should be exposed to). Anyway, one of the things we were taught was that in an emergency (the example used was flooding the engine on a level crossing) you put the car into second or reverse and use the starter motor to get you to safety.
