Mixing different grades of Oil Nova 1.2 19 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Hi just wandered if you could help, going to change the oil on my car in the next few days. Last time i changed it i put castrol gtx 10w40 in it because it was on offer and fairly cheap. Today though i\'ve bought 15w40 (which is what the handbook says the car takes anyway) i doubt there is but is there any problem going back to 15w40? -

Lexus Oil change frequency 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi the Lexus dealership in the UAE has a requirement for oil change frequency - every 5000km's, I realise the heat of the UAE is a strain but every 5000 KM's seems excessive. They state they use BP 5000. From the BP web site: SAE 5W-40 API SL / CF ACEA A3-02, B3-98 Issue 2, B4-02 Volkswagen VW 502.00 & 505.00 BMW (Longlife-98) Mercedes Benz (MB Sheet 229.3) Porsche any views gents? -
2002 Peugeot 406 HDi - Gearbox Oil 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Howdo all, I do not have a service schedule for my 2002 Pug 406 HDi, only a service print out. There is no mention anywhere of the gearbox oil being changed during its 119,000 miles. Question is - does anyone know the interval for the change, if there is one at all? Thanks, DB -

Pattern parts 18 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I recently did an oil and filter change on my 2.0 TDCI focus using a very well known brand of oil filter, paper element type, plastic top and bottom. After the oil change the oil pressure was slower to come up and extinguish the oil light. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Cold weather starting 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I had an oil change last month and they initially used 10W/40 oil but then I insisted they change the oil and use the recommended 5W/30 oil. I noticed first thing this morning (after a sub zero temperature night) that it took 3 attempts to start the engine. -

Lexus IS200 - National Tyres mess up simple oil change 11 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Due to a back operation I couldnt do my normal oil change. I saw this well known company advertising an oil change, using Castrol Edge 5w 30 fully synthetic for my Lexus at £38 including filter. I couldnt buy the oil and filter at that price so yesterday had them do it after thinking about if for a few weeks. -

BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 1999 3.0 530d Autobox Oil Change - hummmmm 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
LIFETIME = 100K miles etc... call BMW... might as well called my wife as asked, I just got we would not do it, it is lifetime oil.... Questions: If the box is working great (as it is), does not slip, jump or play about (from what I can tell) is it worth changing the oil or in order to keep the box working so well, may be an oil change is a good idea..... -
Nissan Almera - Almera Gearbox 18 Oct 2015 (Forum)
This leads to failure of the gearbox. If the oil is changed every 50 - 70k the manuakl gear box will be smooth with syncro gear changing and will last 200 k or more. -

£157 for an oil change! 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I agree with HJ that regular oil changes are the cheapest way to ensure the longevity of an engine. Not being a fan of Audi's variable service interval, I booked my car in for it's first oil change at 5,000 miles (1.9tdi) this week. -

Oil Overfill - Again !! 12 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Strangely I never manage to overfill the oil when doing interim changes, so perhaps there is a "technique" I am missing and known only to car mechanics ? Anyway straight home to siphon out the excess with the Pela Extractor - purchased for this very reason (and the interim changes). -
VW Polo - 1.4 TDI PD engine oil question 31 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Since I bought my 1.4 TDI PD VW Polo in 2002 (yes I know its old but its only done 17,000 miles) I have changed the engine oil every year using the recommended 5w40 semi synthetic 505.01 oil (Millers). I have always bought a 5 litre container of oil but the engine only needs about 4 litres so I always have about a litre left, this builds up so about every fourth year it has built up so I dont have buy for that particular year.I now have a build up of about 3 litres and as it is near to oil change time I went to buy a 5 litre container of the recommended oil only to find Millers have discontinued it and say I should now use their recommended full synthetic (not semi) oil.
