  My 306 1.6 petrol Meridian will occasionally fail to start in the morning. Just prior to engaging the starter there is no sound of the fuel pump running....

  Spoke to someone recently that reckoned it was normal for 2ltr cars to do this as the automatic choke was 'forcing everything thru'. Reckoned it could be fixed by giving it a tune up. I would have thought that if a car had an ECU then it wouldn't have a choke or be tunable, other than by remapping the ECU. Which would be a modification rather than maintenance.

  My 2.0 zetec mondeo died as I was driving it into drive and when I checked it out it seems there is no spark. I have replaced the coil pack but to no availe. I am now looking for a wiring schematic of the ecu to trace any faults in the wiring loom of ecu. Has anybody had this problem before. Thanks col

  Car (33,000 miles) just 4 years old failed to start. No previous problems. After 10 days Ford dealer claimed it was a faulty solenoid valve in fuel injection...

  I remember my old XUD had a system of cables & levers to advance injection timing when cold, and this certainly made it sound like a bucket of nails being shaken. Presumably the ECU on the HDi is doing something similar? Why advance timing when cold? What other tricks does the ECU get up to? Ta.
• Cat damage with leaded petrol 13 Aug 2005 (Forum)
  At some point the active material in the cat is presumably neutralised or destroyed and it has to be replaced to meet the MoT test, but are there any side effects such as bad running or confusion for the ECU once the damage is done? Might it not also be cheaper if possible to remove the cat before travelling (replace it on return) or does that give the ECU brain damage?
• 1999 Passat - Plenum Drain Holes 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
  - I checked the car today and the plenum chamber is flooded (Car Parked on an angle and water 1cm up on electrical ECU box, halfway up the servo !!) The mats inside the car feel dry so fingers crossed no damage to ECU's. I've had a good look with a torch - I haven't removed the battery but I can't see any evidence of drain holes in either corner are they under the battery ?

  Duly took it along to main dealer service outfit for a run on the diagnostics box and we have an error code for the passenger seatbelt pretensioner and another for the airbag ECU. Plus a parts-only quote for 700 quid for the necessary bits. Ringing around the independent Vauxhall outfits and those sharing Opel lineage (around Reading) and no-one seems interested in quoting for the work to fix, or, be willing to fit parts I can source myself.

  There is a safety recall to do with a door switch.  Could this have interfered with the ECU/immobilizer in some way?  Surely if it was just because I'd dropped the key it couldn't affect the ECU?  Surely Hondas are more robust than that? Any guidance/ideas would be very gratefully received.

  Next morning it refused to start:  the starter motor turned it over happily but it didn't even cough or splutter.  He called Skoda Assist, and the attending technician diagnosed water had penetrated the ECU casing (the ECU's bolted to the bulkhead). The technician tested various loom connections to the coils packs and injectors, and eventually got it to fire up.  I should add that there were no warning lights, and no faults logged in the ECU.

  A short in the coolant temperature sensor circuit would give a low resistance reading to the ECU-which would be interpreted as high temperature (voltage and resistance drop with increasing temperature). i am hoping somone can through some light on this for me on how to test wiring from temp sensor to ecu etc.

  I have electric bike 2x1000w and i connected everything my self so i kind of know what i am doing with those things . The scooter cables and ECU are kind of the same as the one on my bike. I did oped the ECU in the scooter but it doesnt smell or look burned and there is a red light on and the green one is flashing with a short pause after every 5 flashes, does anybody know what this means...

  Hi All My W reg 2.0 Vectra has a problem which at first was intermittent and is now permanent .. the ABS and TC lights are permanently on and the speedo appears dead. A mechanic friend tried to communicate with the ABS ECU with a diagnostic box but got 'no communication'. I have done a few basic things like cleaning the front wheel sensors and checking the ABS fuse but problem still persists. Searching the web for this problem suggest that it most likely to be the ABS ECU.

  Catalytic converter downstream temperature signal (cata2). Short circuit to positive or open circuit Abs or Esp Ecu Permanent fault. Rear left wheel speed sensor. Coherence Permanent fault. Rear right wheel speed sensor. Coherence Intermittent fault. Communication with the engine management Ecu fault.   hi I have a vectra 2000 Model 1.6 engine Z16XE. Done only 70K I just bought the car and its ECU light started coming on. I have noticed that whenever this happens the care starts to miss at constant foot pressure (accelerator). It?s better at high revs and higher speeds. The Code retrieved is P0400 EGR valve redistribution.

  Anyway, having conducted the flash code retrieval (bridging TE1 and E1 in diagnostic port) the code 14 came up. This is "ignition No IGF signal to ECU for 4 consecutive IGT signal during engine running Open/short in IGF/IGT signal from igniter to ECU Igniter malfunction ECU" according to one site, but my question is does anyone know the location of the igniter on the 1332cc Corolla (its the newer 'bug eye' shape).

  In normal driving the temperature seems OK with the needle in the middle (i.e. as pointing west on a compass). Earlier in the year I had the common 75 problem of a flooded ECU. The ECU was apparently OK when dried out (although the glow plug relay was corroded and had to be replaced). I am wondering if this may be the cause of the fan problem as I presume the fan operation is controlled by the ECU.

  It's in being fixed just now but mechanic called me to say there's a problem with a switch related to the ECU which means a fan is not being triggered, so he's going to fit a new switch and hopes this will resolve it. He mentioned if this did not resolve it, I should constantly keep the blower on at setting 1, and constantly have the air con switched on.

  I would appreciate any help, as i feel the dealer is guessing? Will it help by disconnecting the battery to make the ECU re learn its sensors? If so, what do i need to do to put the ECU in \'learn\' mode? How long does the battery need disconnecting? How should i drive it afterwards? Thanks for the anticipated help.
