  • Car not crushed. 2 Sep 2009 (Forum)
It followed me for about 2 miles, (heading towards the local police canteen from the motorway). I made a point of driving normally, speed limit +5, across several roundabouts untill I turned off. Although I was probably checked on a myriad of databases, and had my driving assesed for booze/drugs, as far as I could tell I was ignored.
  • Another suicidal person on the motorway... 14 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Ul Haque was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving. Judge Jonathan Geake also banned him from driving for 12 months." He caused several crashes, but no serious injuries. I don't think that the punishment fits the crime - do you?
  • Ford Cougar (1998 - 2000) - 00 2.0 Heater stays on hot 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)

  • Audi - 3.2FSI vs 3.0TDI 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Do you have any experience driving any of this (primary in B7/B8 Audi A4)? I know that the new 3.0TDI is probably better (acceleration, fuel consumption, torgue) but it's considerably more expensive than 3.2FSI. Putting fuel consumption on the side as I don't drive much (5-10k a year) how would you compare these 2 engines?
  • Second car advice 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
One is 21 and passed her test at 17 1/2 - she has had one claim on the insurance for an accident. The other is 17 in September and will need a car to learn to drive in. Obviously I don't want to pay over the odds on insurance - and am looking 4-5 years old second hand, so I'm not looking for anything extravagant. But I am 6'7 and want a car I can be comfortable driving.
  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 05 2.2 i-cdti juddering 20 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Has anyone had a problem with the CRV or a 2.2 i-cdti and low down judder when driving and changing up gears in town ? This is driving me mad as I've only just got the car and have 10 days to take it back for an exchange ... Its mostly in 3rd or 4th gear at the low end of the rev band and especially bad when the car is half way between fully warm and cold.
  • 93 yr old banned after fatal accident with m/c 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The family of a biker killed on his first day of retirement by a 93-year-old motorist called for stricter rules governing older drivers. Pensioner Alfred Ross admitted causing death by careless driving and is thought to be the oldest person in the country to be convicted of the offence. He shuffled into New Forest Magistrates Court in Lyndhurst, Hants, with a walking stick where he was fined £3,750 and banned from driving for five years.
  • Think bike? Think all types of vehicles! 5 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Some will see the signs as putting motorcyclists on a pedestal, conferring special privileges on them, putting the onus on all other drivers to get out of their way regardless, and giving them immunity from accidents whatever their standard of driving. Having frequently seen the crazy antics of motorcyclists on the A631, A157 and A153 crossing the Lincolnshire Wolds (where motorcyclists go purely for the fun of driving at high speeds on twisty roads) I wonder whether the signs should be replaced by "think all types of vehicles" signs.
  • Dealers changing tactics in credit crunch ?. 2 Mar 2009 (Forum)
This weekend I decided to drive down to my local Ford dealership for what I assumed was a straight forward question - "How much could I expect to receive in part-ex value against a new car" and specified the model I was after" .I was told I would have to start a sales process first which involved all my details recorded ,inspection of my car , test drive of new car , etc, etc.
  • 'Proper' small(ish) auto diesel? 24 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I've been looking for a chain-cam-engined, reliable, economical, small-ish diesel automatic that has been sold for long enough and in sufficient quantities for it to be available inexpensively secondhand. I'd hoped for a proper i.e. torque-converter, auto for its driving-characteristics but it's proving hard to find. (Forum-members variously warn me off the MMT and AMT 'autos' offered by Toyota and Colt, respectively, as unpleasant to drive.) Could anyone recommend me something I may have missed?
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 98 2.0 ABS fault ?? 10 Feb 2009 (Forum)
All was OK yesterday but this morning all is not well. Engine starts OK and runs normally. When reverse is selected and I gently ease out of my drive there is a slight vibration. Select Drive or !st or 2nd and the vibration is much worse. Vibration is speed related. I have only driven it 10 yards backwards and forwards to try to gather more info.
  • Dummies question re 4x4s in this snow 9 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have been watching the TV news today and I have noticed numerous 4x4s such as CRVs, Lancruisers, RAV4s, etc, gingerly driving down snowy roads no different to non-4x4 cars. I thought the whole point of having a 4x4 was that it meant it gave you traction in snow and ice conditions or am I wrong? Or is it a case that the likes of the CRV, RAV4, Freelander, etc, simply do not have good enough drive systems for this weather?
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 92 1.4 Strut removal problems 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi. how do you release the bottom ball joint without destroying it? it is rivetted to the lower arm; there is no room to put on a small seperator due to the drive shaft; I am nervous about driving in a wedge as there is a good chance of wrecking the rubber leading to new lower arm etc. any tips would be gratefully received. The track rod ends don't fit my seperator either. i am about to buy a small gear puller which would fit but again experience is great so a pointer to what works would be great.

  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 2.0 Heavy smoke under load only. 10 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Established that the injectors needed replacing and have had four new ones fitted. The car still smokes heavily but only under load. When idling it is fine but drive off and it fills the street up. I have been told that the turbo may have gone but it seems fine when I drive it. It sounds and seems to work normally. shouting silenced and some paraphrasing

I've balanced all the wheels, there is no vibes through the steering wheel but there is through the floor and bulkhead, it feels like a drive shaft out of balance, but seems too much of a coincidence that a shaft would go when i had a bush fitted.... help its driving me mad, thanks.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.25 Fast Idle and not reving over 4000 rpm 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi Just purchased a small runabout for my Wife and the car is a Ford Fiesta 1.25 l zetec automatic R reg, the car runs fine except, when at a standstill you put it into Drive it sometimes cuts out and the idle appears to be fast also at a standstill if you rev the engine in Park or Neutral the revs appear to be limited and do not go past 4000rpm, any ideas, electrical or a gearbox problem, due to this if you press the accelerator to the flooor in drive there is no kick down, although its the newer gearbox version of the CVT.

  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 2000 1.2 engine chugging 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hello, need help as just bought a 2nd hand Clio. Everything seemed fine on test drive, bought car and went for a spin. Then, out of the blue, after only 20 miles of city driving the engine began chugging really badly at some traffic lights. The gearstick was vibrating like crazy and the car felt like it was going to stall at any moment.
