  • BMW 320dSE diesel consumption 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I bought a 320dSe(150 b.h.p.) earlier this year on the premise that the fuel consumption would be approx 50 m.p.g. To date I have done 6k miles & it is only averaging 39 m.p.g. I was wondering if this will improve (say after 20k miles) and if any backroomers with this model could pass on their fuel consumption figures??

and if so, are they planning to sell them in this country ? I know that diesel is not the preferred choice but with the fuel costs as they are i am looking at fuel economy rather than outright performance ! Regards, Ash.

  • VW Golf Mk3 poor pick-up from idling 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)
where do I look (under the bonnet?), and do the symptoms suggest it might be faulty? What about the fuel pump itself ? I was wondering if the repeated switching of the fuel pump relay might have damaged it? Haynes also says this car?s fuel / ignition system can only be investigated by a garage with a diagnostic system, yet my local VW dealer was quoting £300 of labour to replace the throttle body and investigate the problem.
  • Aviation fuel taxes 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The UK has the largest set of double taxation agreements in the world. All negotiated over many years. Every single one exempts our airlines from being taxed on fuel in other countries in return for us not taxing their airlines on fuel in ours. Thus inside the fence at Heathrow you have effectively a fuel tax free zone. Now we can impose taxes on our home airlines if we wish but we have just bankrupted BA, Easy Jet and Ryan Air as we have just made them uncompetitive on price as they are being taxed and others aren't.

  • Vauxhall Vivaro - Fuel injector? 28 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Hi, I'm getting confused information from the van itself and two garages I've taken it to...the injectors were replaced 18 months ago, a month ago it stuttered when going through 3rd into forth, fourth into fifth, STOP light flashed on then immediately off...I had it looked at, told it's driving fine, but when diagnosed the reading says injector no.1...but the van drives fine again to a degree and STOP light not come on, I feel it will if I get up to 60mph however, but reading injector issues, it's not misfiring, it's not leaking, no noises, starts great everytime...so i dont get it...I have bought a decent reviewed cleaner and additive to mix into the fuel tank...any input off you guys be greatly appreciated
  • Is E85 ethanol making a comeback? 10 Oct 2022 (Forum)
E85 though retails at just €0.65 a litre or 57p a litre. However, who has cars that can fill up with this fuel? In France Dacia also had success with dual fuel petrol/LPG cars. Is it likely that in future, Dacia will make cars whose engines will accept E85?
  • Mercedies 2.1 CDI - Fuel Injector issue 28 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Attempting to assist  a friend replacing the copper seal on fuel injector as it was puffing mist into the engine compartment while running. injector removed and evidence of leak past distorted  seal, dressed the seat in the head with correct tool, replaced  the injector using new copper washer and stretch bolt, torqued to correct figure and then the correct degree to tighten. on start, found to be the same and when stretch bolt was removed coolant started pouring out, re did the job with thicker washer and same again, transpires the mist being ejected is coolant. does anyone know why engine coolant would be pumping out the bolt hole, cracked head or cylinder head gasket blown?
