  Diesel cars not allowed for private use. Big news in the Jordan Times today is the New Car dealers/Agents protesting that the imported used car sales are taking 75% of the market due to 150% import duties and taxes on new cars.

  A friend has asked me to inspect and give an opinion on a BMW Z3 which he is interested in buying privately, and we are going to see it tonight. BMW's mechanicals are outside of my area of expertise, but we know it to be a personal import, and I note HJ's comments in car by car breakdown: "2.8s imported from other markets may have vulnerable Nickasil-lined bores rather than steel-lined bores". My question is, do any of you know how I can tell if this is the case please?

  Again most of the later shape cabrios seem to be Jap imports - are they much different to UK spec cars and what is the spares situation like ? I almost certainly want an automatic car BTW..... is the auto box a good one ? Generally are these celica cabriolets a good buy (reliable with reasonable riunning costs) or should one be looking at a european brand.

  As I have had a life of poor reliability and even worse customer service, I am going to choose my next car VERY carefully. The 2 most important aspects of my new car will be reliability and customer service, whith customer service being the most important. I have used the resources avilable (reliability index etc) to shortlist some reliable cars that I like the sound of (Toyota Avensis, Seat Toledo, Honda Accord, most of the Japs) now I need to know who's going to give me good honest customer service at a reasonable price.

  However, it occured to me that it might be worthwhile to buy a used left-hand drive car in the UK as I understand they tend to be much cheaper. We could then import them into France.   I see that one of the travel sites advertising in the spaces is "airfasttravel" It is important to note that it is an online only company although with a uk phone number somewhere there is no physical uk prescence. Reviews are very mixed.
