  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 93 998 Fuel problem 5 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Engine will start .If I soak the air filter in petrol it starts but only for a few secs. I guess engine is not getting fuel from the pump. The starter spinns the engine quite easily as if no petrol in the cylinders. Where is the fuel pump so that I can check? Any other checks you can suggest. Is the pump not running because of a sensor somewhere?

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 01 1.6LX Petrol Poor Fuel Economy after repair. 5 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Hi - had the fuel tank filler neck flexi hose replaced recently ( leaking fuel was the tell tale sign of it's demise ! ) but have experienced very poor fuel economy since then. I realise that it could be coincidental, but do you know of any problems with this replacement part, e.g. is there a filter or such like attached to it which could have been missed by the mechanic !?

  • Golf couple's fuel efficiency record 6 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Just in case you may have missed it, there's a story today about husband-and-wife team John and Helen Taylor setting a new fuel efficiency record on a 78-day around the world drive. Using a special new non-standard fuel formulated by Shell they drove 18,000 miles through 25 counties and their VW Golf used just 24 tanks of fuel (287 gallons), averaging 62.7mpg.

  • Mercedes E300D 95 leaking fuel 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Just noticed that I have a diesel leak coming from a unit just below the inlet manifold to the right of cylinders 1 and 2 - it looks like the leak is coming from the top of this unit where the fuel feed pipe (from the fuel filter assy) enters at the top. It looks like the pipe is just a push fit without any sort of clip but I was peering at it with a torch so I may be wrong. The fuel has run down the side of the whole engine block.
  • Why is 'normal aspiration' best? 28 Jul 2004 (Forum)
My understanding is that 'normal aspiration' is just a (hopefully advanced) form of traditional carburetter (i.e. fuel is drawn into cylinders from tank by a mixture of gravity and suction) whereas 'fuel injection' is where fuel is pumped into the cylinders. What I find surprising is that some F1 cars and many other high performance cars and motorbikes have 'normal aspiration'.

What other people can do: if drivers of "white vans" observed their proper speed limits, there might be more fuel to go round.

  • Fuel savings 4 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Now I know I have read somewhere (some time ago) that coasting in the scenario now being discussed, was more benificial for saving fuel. I tend to agree with that. So I emailed the DOT but they still say coasting uses more fuel, but stay in gear & ease off the gas to reduce the fuel flow to the engine to virtually zero. I still can't see how that can be, any opinions on this very contentious issue especially in light of the impending strike, if it were to happen.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 99 2.00 Fuel Promblem 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Hi new on so here go's I have a Peugeot 406 diesel Est. it was running fine up until 4 weeks ago then it started to cut out when i put my foot down a little on the motoway, i pull over sat for 5 mins then it started again, it slowly got worse over 3 weeks, then one day on my way home from work it just stopped all together, also when it cut a light came on the one for the fuel injection one, so i was told it could be the relay for the glow plugs, i change that, then i put new glow plugs in it, i changed the fuel filter and it still wont start, i,ve now been told it could be the fuel pump in the fuel tank.
