  Hi! I have a Seat Ibiza 1.4 (6L). Just noticed the other day that there was a coolant leak. Got under the car and noticed that it was leaking from a part that connects to the bottom of the radiator. Between the lower radiator hose and the radiator. Don't know the exact name of the part but have attached a picture that shows where the leak is.

  Daughter away from home driving it, photographed the coolant reservoir which is about 1/2 inch below the minimum line,    what she should top it up with?  just water?  the fluid in there is very pink, but I guess it is antifreeze giving it that colour.

  The low coolant warning light came on and I topped up the radiator with about a pint of water.  Very soon after the warning light came on again and the level indicator top was level with the filler neck top.

  Hi Just found i have been driving around with no coolant (no warning light), i topped it up and could see i had a major leak on a pipe that goes to the heater matrix.   Vauxhall wanted £160 to change it.   How do these complicated connections release and re fit, do i need a special tool, if i can work that out it should be very easy to change the pipe.

  hi i have a 2000 vauxhall vectra 2.0 cdx  with x20xev ecotech engine which is running rich ie the sparkplugs are black a bit of research as to the cause of the problem has led me to belive the coolant temp sensor is faulty what i need to know is where is it located on the engine so i can replace it and are they expensive from a main dealer. regards melvyn brown

  Hello,  I have just checked my water coolant level this morning and noticed the water has gone a greyish brown and is full of sediment. My initial thoughts is the head gasket, but the water level hasn't dropped and the oil level is normal.

  I have a 2002 1.4 16V clio this is exhibiting all the problems that I have read about elsewhere in this forum which are resolved by replacing the coolant temperature sensor - namely uneven running for the first few minutes when the engine is totally cold, but thereafter all is well until the engine cools down overnight. But - where do I find this sensor - what colour are the leads connected to it?

  Someone I know (and no, it isn't me) has just shown me the coolant tank which six months and 2,500 miles ago, they unknowingly topped up with brake fluid as it was near the minimum. I suggested they quickly get it drained, flushed and refilled. My question on their behalf is what kind of damage will this have done?

  Working on my Herald last night - trying to trace a coolant leak near the heater area. Needed to test if a liquid was coolant or rainwater. I did so by tasting it. Coolant (water+antifreeze) tastes horrible so this method is efficient. My question - how dangerous is this?

  When I pull over after commute (50 miles) - the radiator body and top radiator hose are stone cold Theory: Water pump - don't think it is a failed water pump. If coolant wasn't circulating i'd expect the heater not to function and the engine oil to overheat quickly (no coolant flow through oil cooler)  Head gasket - car has done high mileage so this is a risk, but would not expect it to completely interupt flow of coolant to the radiator.

  I'm just coming to do the 60,000 mile service on my 1998 Mondeo 1.8LX and was thinking of changing the coolant. However, my handbook says this is not necessary as Ford's coolant will last the life of the car. Any opinions on whether I should change it or not?

  Also, the coolant leak was back.  The mechanic changed waterpump and thermostat. But when I drive and the car reaches operating temperature the pressure pushes the coolant out of the reservois and its visibly dripping.

  So I've recently had a coolant leak repaired on my 2008 model Ford fiesta where the mechanic noted that the water pump and thermostat needed replacing. Having had those replaced and my car returned to me, the leak has stopped however the coolant has begun to boil/bubble after driving the ~30 minute journey to/from work (~20 miles each way).

  The oil in my engine appears to be suffering premature oxidation (indicated by low Interfacial Tension in contact with water).  I don't think the cause is overheating. This leads me to suspect that there is a coolant leak into the crankcase and the glycol based antifreeze is oxidising the oil. The coolant does require topping up occasionally. The problem is that I can't find any evidence of coolant in the oil (from Blotter spot tests and the crackle test).

  Good morning. The issue concerns my wife's 04 plate avant. She informs me she is regularly topping up the coolant system... WITH WATER FROM THE TAP. I have searched the Internet, done the relevant here, lifted the bonnet and uncovered what I believe to be the cause of my problem. I just need one final piece of information to be able to source and or fit the correct part.

  This means no anti-freeze/anticorrosive coolant during that time!! So I have this car and wish to clean out the cooling system (i.e. drain, refill with pure water, run briefly & drain again to flush away any gunk) then refil with antifreeze & fit new thermostat before autumn sets in.

  My 51000 mile '02 Citroen C5 HDI 110 Auto has, in the last 2000 miles, developed a thirst for coolant - about a litre in 250 - 300 miles. The header tank remains under significant pressure long after the engine and coolant have cooled - on releasing the pressure cap first thing in the morning (-4 degrees C) the water level rose in the header tank by about 2 inches!

  The moment I move the heater temperature control away from the cold setting there is that unmistakable sickly sweet smell of wet dog - i.e. hot coolant - in the cabin. Somewhere there must be a leak. There is no smell under the bonnet. Oddly the coolant level hardly goes down in the radiator expansion tank. Perhaps a cup every month. I have just now put in a container of Forte Radiator Stop Leak (as recommended on here) and I will have to see if this helps.

  I read in the haynes manual that on some models the coolant goes through the oil cooler so would this explain the oily coolant?....or is there a bigger problem I should worry about here? The car runs fine all the time and no signs of overheating or any other problem.
