  I've heard bad things about early DSG type gearboxes, so potentially a straight auto would make more sense. She's never driven an automatic before, but is quite looking forward to it! Any thoughts? We have up to £5000 to spend, but as it's my money that she's spending (and then paying back - hopefully) I'd be happier spending £3,500 to £4,000.

  Does anyone know where you can obtain Toyota T4 automatic transmission fluid as used in their newer automatic gearboxes on current shape avensis. Want to do a complete fluid change on a higher mileage vehicle. Not listed on independent toyota parts specilaists websites, and motor-factors don't seem to be able to get hold of it and some haven't heard of it.

  A female (22) I know, has limited driving experience and has held a licence for a couple of years. She has given up the unequal fight with the clutch and gear lever and a small automatic car is now on the agenda. An automatic Corsa was suggested as that was the learning car (manual), but I suppose they'd be a bit pricey and not offer good value for that very reason. Fuel economy does not matter, nor is any issue about slush-box or CVT transmission.

  A discussion in the MB Club forum prompts me to start a thread here, as the matter is of general interest. What views are there on the use of the parking brake in cars with automatic transmission?   I'm looking to buy a newish second hand qashqui automatic. There's rather a hugh price difference between the pre-2018 models with the old CVT/Xtronic gearboxes and the new DVT gearboxes. I've had a CVT qashqui before and didn't mind it, though I gather its not terribly highly thought of by car enthusiasts.

  Hello, All, I must disable the reversing-beep that sounds repeatedly inside the cabin of a just-acquired 2005 Daihatsu Sirion 1.3 SE Automatic: the then new-shape model with the boxy body. Can some Sirion-savvy soul tell me which fuse to remove or wire to pull, please? Failing that, would anyone recommend a former Daihatsu garage or independent?

  I have to admit that I am fairly new to vehicles and any help would be appreciated.  Key criteria -  Budget - Around 8-9k, Automatic, Petrol, decent rear leg room and boot space, family friendly with child seat to be fixed and not too high on insurance since it is my first car.  I was looking at a 2012 ford focus but the rear seats seems to be a bit cramped up.

  Does anyone know what the recommended oil change mileage is for an automatic gearbox in a B Class? I plan to call the manufacturer some time soon but wondered if anyone knew it off hand or had access to the correct information. I am thinking about keeping the car beyond it's 4th year and I'd like to know if there will be any costs associated with a higher than planned mileage.

  We are considering replasing it (not least because she needs seat height adjustment which it does not have) with an automatic Jazz....perhaps new but more likely second hand. I am under the imoression that some versions of the auto gearbox are (I exaggerate) rubbish whilst others are excellent. Please can anyone tell us which years model are the ones to avoid bearing in mind that the local dealer in unlikely to have models much older than five years.

  I think here are too many post about automatic gearbox AL4 failure. Some indicates low oil fluid, others a failure in selenoides, and mainly I would like to talk about the loss of pressure inside the gesrbox eventually when the car is on its way.

  Hi   I have recently bought a Picasso Desire 56 reg 2.0 petrol automatic.  Should I manually be able to select 5th gear? The most I can use M+ for is 4th. It won't let me go any higher. I didn't know if this was how it should be or if there is a fault? It doesn't quite feel right driving at 70 in drive, it feels like the revs are high, which is what made me try to shift up to a higher gear.
