  Hi I wondered if anybody has any suggestions regarding the above fault p0505 (idle control voltage high) have had this problem for a while .I have changed the throttle bodies twice and had the values adapted to the ecu but the fault still remained, next course of action was to have the ecu sent away for test was told fault on 5volt side authorised repair .On refitting the ecu I decided to put a code reader on before starting the engine so that all was lit was the dash lights the ecu still had p0505 fault still present which I found odd after the ecu was supposed to have been fixed and tested and also I would have thoght the engine had to be running to trigger the code.I reset the light and tried starting the car and it ran ok for about 5 minutes and then put the light on.Are these simtec 70 ecu worth repairing or would it be best to replace it with a new one .

    i was banged to rights as i had not seen it running... so i now have to go back and have a look... any recommendations for ecu rebuild.. as an ecu swap out will give me more greif i hear.. or is it the dreaded heater wire and dash problem.. is there a way of checking ecu .. any advice is welcomed..

  I have some performance chips to solder into the BOSCH ECU of my 1998 2.5TD Vauxhall Omega. I bought an identical replacement ECU off ebay, but when I fit that, the car refuses to start, if I put mine back it fires at the turn of the key. I am wondering if this is some sort of security/immobiliser thing where chips in the key gets authorisation from the ECU to start?

  The local main dealer has tested it extensively (and expensively!), and eliminated everything but the ECU. The ECU was sent away to a specialist who tested it and found nothing wrong. However he did resolder whatever it is you solder in an ECU. It now seems to be performing better, but twice yesterday the car seemed to lose all power for a split second before picking up again, and I fear all is not entirely well.

  I understand that VW supply an upgrade at some cost but can the original ECU be repaired 'at home' like some ECU's that have been mentioned on this site. Is the fault caused by failure of a component such as a chip or is it nothing more than a 'dry solder joint' I have successfully repaired dry joints on other ECU's but I am not sure if this known fault on the tdi is unrepairable Thanks Andrew

  ECU light remained on when car restarted that evening. ECU light still on when engine running the next morning. After a 7 mile drive the car was left parked for 4 hours. On restarting the engine ECU light turned off as normal once engine running.

  Does anyone know if the airbag ecu has to be replaced after the deployment of both front airbags on an '04 Euro 4 Mondeo 130 Ghia X estate? I'm considering purchase of an otherwise relatively undamaged Category D write off and am concerned about the potential cost of pretensioners, airbags, ecu etc.

  Hi, my ECU has had it in my 2002 Renault Laguna 1.8. Does anyone know whether a second hand ecu can be fitted and re-coded to my car or does it have to be a brand new one from renault? Thanks

  I've been told that Rover ECUs loose their settings when you disconnect the battery. Does anyone know if this is true and if so can the ECU learn its settings again, or do I need to have it re-programmed? (I need to disconnect the battery for safety reasons when I change the fuel filter)

  I find myself in the sorry position of having purchased a "new" tuning kit for a Saab 9-5 (consists of new injectors & remapped ECU), and finding that the ECU has not only been fitted before but is faulty. The tuning kit is a genuine Saab item, retails at £825 but I bought it online for £225....no need to explain why! Whilst the injectors were in sealed packs, the ECU was in an open poly bag.

  The ECU I have got? In the 2001 1.4 vvti E11 model. Because it may eliminate my rattling sound, which sounds like pinking, but suspect I am not getting enough fuel through at the time and the ECU might need to re-learn something?

  My son has a Golf Mk 4 which may have ECU problems. Engine management light comes on, and the revs are cut down. Diagnostics didn't reveal anything, and it seems OK again now. If it is the ECU, is it feasible to get secondhand ones, as I understand they're expensive?

  Where is the ecu located in the vectra b. I have an intermittent earth fault with the volume controls on the radio. ( they start to work in a different order). Does any one know if the radio and the ecu use the same earth path. thanks for any help.
