Renault Megane RN Paris brake problems 14 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I've just bought a 1996 R reg Renault Megane 1.4 RN Paris. The brakes are making a really loud scraping noise and when I apply the brakes the pedal goes almost to the floor with no braking then the brakes seem to slam on fully. As a result, it feels really difficult to brake in a controlled manner. -
Skoda Fabia - Siezed rear brake drum 2 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I recently was charged by my hgarage for freeing rear brake drum clogged with brake dust after the brake had siezed. The vehicle had annual service at that garage at end of March. Should not the brake drums have been inspected and cleaned out at that time? -
Ford Fiesta 2004 Finesses - Replacement brake pipes 31 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Hi All, I have a 2004 ford fiesta which has today failed its MOT on corroded rear brake pipes and main break pipes. The reason for the failure is following: Nearside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c) Offside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c) Nearside Brake pipe excessively corroded main brake pipe (3.6.B.2c) Offside Brake pipe excessively corroded main brake pipe (3.6.B.2c) Nearside Rear Road wheel distorted (4.2.A.1a) Local garage quoted £200 + VAT for the brake pipes and £30 for replacing the wheel, which sounds a lot. -
Land Rover Discovery Sport - Brake Pad Replacements 10 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Would brake pads required to be replaced AGAIN in less than 4 weeks (580 miles)? This is what I was told by garage: The brake pads are required with the new discs due to existing brake disc condition (Pads used 500+ miles could prematurely wear/damage new brake discs and cause uneven braking/vibrations/warping/scoring) I have never heard of this before. -
1 in 3 Brakes could fail 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Brakes seem to be my subject this evening. The attached is an intresting article on the quality of brakes and fluid recently inspected. www.carpages.co.uk/news/brakes-09-11-06.asp It does lead me to ask a question though. -
brake noise 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Hello, I have a curious problem with my car. When my brakes are warm, after say a sustained brake down a hill, at speeds over 60mph, a droning noise is set up and is damned annoying. there is no vibration, the braking potential doesn't go (i.e. no fade), and it is possible to push through the noise by braking much harder. -
Replacement rear brake pads 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I know that new brake pads need time to bed in properly. Does the same rule apply to rear brake pads - they aren't used as much as the fronts during regular braking so should I still brake gently for 200 miles or not bother?? -
Air in brake system bother 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Changed pads\discs all round on my golf mk2 at christmas. Also had to replace both rear brake calipers. After this, the brakes rocked! Then about a week later, the brakes were spongy & alot of travel on the pedal. Re-bled the brakes & the rear ones had air in them. After this brakes back to good working order. -
clio brakes 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My wife has a 94 clio 1.4 automatic, and every time the car is driven from being stood, there seems to be a lot of travel on the brake pedal & very little braking effect.Once the brakes are pumped several times they feel fine & work well.I have had the brakes bled & pads & shoes are fine, iam wondering could the problem lie in the servo or mastercylinder,i have noticed a hissing sound coming from the brake pedal when applied, before the pedal is pumped up. -
Toyota Landcruiser Lc3 - Brake problem 27 Apr 2011 (Forum)
This brake problem is on a 2007 Landcruiser, 3.0l diesel automatic. The brake pedal nearly goes to the floor, although it does continue to stop the vehicle. I have bled the brakes with no noticeable effect. -
Vauxhall Agila - Brakes 20 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I have an intermittent brake issue. My Agila has recently visited two local garages who both say the brakes are fine - but they aren't. Most of the time, the brakes respond as they should but, every couple of weeks, I have to press the pedal right to the floor if I'm braking as the car goes over a bump/grate/pothole. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (2003) Hatchback - Third brake light (center) not working 10 May 2010 (Forum)
The manual provides instruction for replacing all globes except the center brake light, so I suspect that it may be LEDs that are supposed to last the life of the car. Secondly, could there be two separate brake switches, one for the normal left and right brake lights and another for the center brake light? -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2002 1.8 petrol - brake pad replacement 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I have just replaced both front and rear brake pads on my Vauxhall Zafira with no problems on fitting. However, I am now experiencing excessive brake pedal travel. I have tried to rectify this by bleeding the front brakes which has helped a little. -
Have A Brake Problem! Please Help 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
On bleeding the system fluid was drained on both rears until no air was evident, however the brake pedal travels to the floor still. When pumped the brakes are good but when this ceases the pedal goes to the floor. The front brakes have now been bled. No air was evident but the problem remains. -
Peugeot 106 - MOT Brake Failure 1 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have removed the drum, brushed out all dust and cleaned the drum with brake cleaner. This has not made any difference. When I apply the hand brake or the foot brake, the passenger side wheel is locked, but the drivers side can still be turned. I have not lost any brake fluid and there are no signs of any leakage round the wheel cylinder. -
Try Your Brakes! Really? 8 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Is it really necessary to "try your brakes" after driving through a few inches of water? Surely this dates back to the days of water pooling in drum brakes and isn't necessary with modern disc brakes otherwise you'd have to "try your brakes" after every rain shower? -
Ford Ka 2004 - Braking Performance 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Any suggestions how I can improve the braking performance of my daughters Ford Ka In my opinion there is too much travel on the brake pedal before anything happens. I have had the brake fluid changed on a regular basis also the brake pads checked. -
Kia Sorento KX2 2011 - braking 17 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Recently my brakes started behaving strange. If I braked hard the car seem to go ok but it was obviouly dragging on the brakes because the fuel consumption started falling on the computer read out, but once home and left overnight the car drove fine the next day with consumption rising again, I thought it might be my brakes calipers sticking on, so I replaced all 4 calipers, and its been fine for about two weeks, then I braked hard again the other day and the same thing started happening with the consumption falling. are there any reasons that this maybe happening aprt fri sticky brake calipers? -

Ford Fiesta - Some brake questions...... 23 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I asked a local garage how much they would charge to change the brakes at the next service, where the brake fluid is due to be changed anyway, if I suplied the new brakes (just front discs/pads: I assume the rear drums get minimal wear) £105 (labour) for the brakes, £40 for fluid change.
