  • Renault 2.2dT - Glow Plug Change 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The only "must have" was some blue tac in the 7mm socket so as not to lose the electrical connection nut (a magnetic socket would be much better). Long nose pliers were also required to manipulate the electric leads. We inspected the inlet manifold and its bolts very carefully and came to the conclusion that it has never been removed. How many Renault dealers do you think are fully aware of this? How many do you think use 1/4 drive sockets to carry out this job, but charge the customer for removing the inlet manifold?
  • Speed Bumps from The Times 24 Aug 2001 (Forum)
A three-year study by the Transport Research Laboratory concluded earlier this month that humps can lead to a 60% rise in exhaust emissions as cars slow down, speed up and slow down again. The inflatable hump has a valve instead of an airhole and uses a pressure gauge to determine the speed of an approaching vehicle.

  • Vauxhall Vectra C - Vauxhall Vectra ECU nightmare. 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Most diagnostic tools are manufacturer specific and even when employed by main dealers seem doomed to lead only to large (understatement) repair bills as they struggle to make sense of the "error codes" or the right course of action to find the underlying fault causing them. Am I the only one who thinks that this situation is outragious?
  • Focus 1.8 TDCi 2001 - 9318 Fault code - occasional engine stop and rough 1 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Engine runs normally aside from starting with smooth idling and good acceleration. Problem started about 1.5 yrs ago. All glow plugs and their leads have been changed but problem still exists. This issue occurred more frequently a few months ago - maybe 1 out of 5 starts were rough. # 2 . This may or may not be related.....this one is also completely random...whilst driving the glow plug light flashes (a fault code is being written) and after 15 seconds the engine loses all power.
  • Ford Mondeo TDCI - 2006 Mondeo TDCI EGR Valve - Help Please!!! 29 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Does fitting a blank also bring about an engine warning light. 4.  Does fitting a blank lead to other second order consequences - premature wear of the engine, etc.  The car has only done 47k prior to me buying it 5 weeks ago - and I guess the previous owner only did little trips about town, but when I cleaned the valve out, it didn't seem that bad at all - but I do not have the mitac pump to check whether it is opening and shutting as required.

  • Peugeot 106 - Peugeot 106 - Preheating / cold starting problem 7 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The wires themselves look difficult to replace. So my question really is where I should go from here. My next plan was to put a jump lead from the positive terminal on the battery onto each glow plug (individually) for 6 seconds and them try starting. I suppose that this would prove that the problem was that the glowplugs are not getting enough current.
