Road surfaces 18 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Imagine how pleasent a lengthy journey would be if the entire road was surfaced with it. a Also I wonder (techy question here) if these road surfaces are easier on the fuel consumption?. -
Petrol production 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
In view of the rising fuel prices, how long does it take for the crude oil to be taken from the well, refined & delivered to the forecourt. Now I'm not one to point the finger at anyone for profiteering, but come on chaps. Does it really warrant 10p a gallon rises all round straight away? -
Fiat Punto SX 20 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My car's running fine and then on occasions loses revs and begins to kangaroo and the fuel injection system malfunction light comes on. Sometimes flooring the accelerator makes it stop, sometimes I have to switch the engine off for a few minutes, but it only ever happens once in a journey and often days pass before it happens again - any suggestions? -

Formula Shell 28 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Having a long memory & a Vauxhall engine destroyed by this product I want to be sure that Shell Fuels are safe for me to use in my 93 Carlton 2.0 (Cat). (I've never used Shell products in her)...I know this may seem bizarre, but once bitten twice shy. Any comments/observations from other Vauxhall owners gratefully received. -
Guernsey diesel price info? 5 Aug 2002 (Forum)
A member of my family is taking his Discovery TD5 to Guernsey later this week and is wondering whether to fill up here in England before he goes (£60ish) or whether to wait until he gets there. I told him that I am willing to bet that fuel is a lot dearer on Guernsey but can anyone confirm it? -
fiat tipo turbo diesel bad mileage 14 Apr 2002 (Forum)
My car is constantly chucking out a cloud of dark grey/black smoke from the exhaust. The fuel and air filters have been changed recently and it doesn't use oil or water so I assume this is due to overfuelling??? Any ideas as to how I could adjust this myself???? -
HGVs Tailgating 12 Oct 2001 (Forum)
As close as 6-8ft at 50-60 mph. The danger is obvious but I can only assume this 'slip streaming' must save fuel: or what? Bob H -
leave it running!!! 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
A friend of mine has told me that a tdi uses an incredible amount of fuel during start up and if you are only planning to leave the car for 10-15 minutes its cheaper to leave it running! Can you tell me if there is any truth in this? the car in question is an R reg Audi A4 1.9 TDI Thanks in advance Dave -
GDI Engines - Ford 15 Dec 2020 (Forum)
The other main concern (this must also apply to other GDI engines) is carbon build up on the inlet valves. As opposed to more traditional engines, fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, hence the valves aren't cleaned by the fuel. This leads to the seal of the valve being compromised, then lack of performance, rough idling, etc. Two questions of forum members: 1. -
Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid - Plug in Hybrid - a few real time statistics. 23 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Seriously though, t am achieving a fill - fill fuel consumption of 98 mpg.overall. Take out the battery running, the HEV consumption is working out at 64mpg. I don't think that is too bad. Just shows the WLTP figures for plug-in hybrids are, at best fictitious, at worst very misleading. -
2009 Kia Rio 1.4 petrol - Smell of petrol in car but no apparent leak? 22 Feb 2019 (Forum)
At the same time, she did mention recently that the car didn't seem to be going as far before she topped up the fuel. I find it hard to believe these two things are not connected, but can't imagine how there would be no eveidence of leaking. Could the fuel could be leaking out of the tank but ending up somewhere else in the car?. -
fiesta 08 mk6 1.4 tdci - 1.4 tdci power loss intermintent 25 Oct 2015 (Forum)
important;">Had it to two garages hu have scanned for codes but found nothing and says there seems to be no fault, got advised to change the fuel filter and blank of the egr valve but the fault persists. Also tryed a additive for water in fuel but still no better been told to try an injector cleaner so that's the next step.Chevrolet - Chevrolet 1987 V8, idling problem 28 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Dear all, I am the owner of an ice resurfacer with a chevrolet v8 engine, 1987, propane fuel with an IMPCO fuel managment system. Motor starts easily but when idling turns off. It works only If i do not leave the throttle pedal, but as you realize this is useless. When I leave the pedal turns off. -
Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 Diesel 2004/5 - Intermittent Fault - black smoke and loss of power 20 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Garage said new diagnostics test showed "No Faults". They suggested perhaps a problem with dirt in the fuel (diesel, by the way). This weekend, I changed the air filter and the fuel filter under the bonnet and, although I did a 100 mile round trip on the motorway yesterday with no problem, today the problem has reared its ugly head once again. -
Ford Focus 2013 - 17" v 18" alloys. 12 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Our Focus Titanuim is a great all-round car but fuel consumption remains disappointing. Despite having fuel-saving technology as well as an extra gear, our old Mk2 Focus was a better car to drive as well as being far more economical (58mpg -v- 51mpg). -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 01 2.2HDi "declared faults" ! 8 Jun 2015 (Forum)
(Apologies for the somewhat sketchy info, this is all second-hand and I haven't actually seen the car yet.) [Other faults are the "Anti-Pollution fault" indicating the Eolys fuel additive tank is empty (I've already estimated the refill cost via this forum) and a "replace fuel filter" fault-code that needs to be reset now that the filter has been changed.] I'm going to phone the local independent Citroen specialist on Monday morning, but would appreciate an idea of what's involved before I speak to them. -
Peugeot 308 - How do I stand? 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Good Mornig all I bought a NON Runner 308, I Checked the Usual & replaced the Usual after a full service, when the car was bought the previous owner has had the same problem, he was told it was the Pump Solinoid, I replaced with new, new Peugeot Filter etc, Filled up the filter before replacing, battery full of charge, car started & ran for about 20 mins the pettered out,the car will now, not start I was told there was no pressure to the Injector line, I towed the car to a local Diesel Doctor, after a week due to people off for hols I ran him yesterday to be told that there was a Fault within the wiring loom that has caused a NON Sigal getting to the ECU to reduce the fuel lines pressure????????? my Question, the car is a 2008, done 58000, is there cause for a warrantee Issue with peugeot? I have never heard of this before, has anyone on H.J. Heard of this? has anyone had this fuel problem? -
Volkswagen Golf 1.4tsi DSG - Economy Mode on Golf 9 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Just bought a new model Golf DSG - the 122bhp version. I have been trying to work out if there are any significant fuel savings between the 3 modes(economy, normal, sport) and also having the stop/start function enabled. I now now longer do the same regular journeys of a significant length for 'back to back' comparison purposes, but with the limited experiments I have tried there seems to be virtually no difference in fuel consumption between 'economy' and 'normal'. -
Jeep Grand Cherokee - LPG Availability 22 Apr 2013 (Forum)
If ASDA does carry out this action then it will involve further mileage searching for a garage that offers this fuel. I had my Jeep converted way back when the then Labour Gov were promising all kinds of benefits for this fuel... but like most politicians idea it was another lie. If only we had the same level of LPG availability that Europe has.
