  • £3k commuter 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Hello, A friend wants a family size car that must be comfortable for his daily commute of 60ish miles (mainly motorway). No frills but reliable and cheap to run. Shouldn't be more than £3k ideally. I was thinking last shape Mondeo is tough to beat for value but he also mentioned he likes previous shape Astra. So whats the sensible purchase please people?
  • Cars getting to Central London 21 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Was talking to a guy who worked on the railways his whole life and recently retired. He recons there are now hundreads of disused lines running from the edges of London to the very centre. So, why not concrete over the lines and create single track one way high speed private roads in to the centre, for an approriate fee of course. I smell a business here...
  • Spark plugs heat range - Toyota Corolla 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The supplier did not have the correct plugs and gave me a set that are one heat number cooler. Car runs well on the new plugs. Am I likely to do any long term damage by what I have done? Appreciate your comments.

When I run an ad-aware scan, should I just remove everything it picks up? How can I tell the good cookies from the bad? They all seem to be low risk, so I can't see much harm in leaving them - but I'm concerned I might delete something I need.
  • VW Golf III No Tickover When Cold 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
This problem only happens intermittently. I estimate once a week. For the rest of the week it starts and runs fine and I use it for a 50 mile commute daily without any problems. Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • Air conditioning cleaners 13 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I note that a proprietary product exists for this purpose, i.e. from Comma. Or any alternative techniques e.g. running the a/c with the heating full on and recirculating the air? Oz (as was)
  • Omega fan 16 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I've had a bit of a squeak for some time from the front of the engine. Today, after a long run, the fan(s) continued for a bit after I'd switched off, and I realised the noise was still there, so I now know the cause. Is it i) something I should worry about or ii) something that a quick squirt of WD40 in the right place would cure, if so, where?

  • Fiesta MK3 Battery Charge Light 18 Nov 2003 (Forum)
A friend mentioned in passing that her battery warning light is on the whole time the engine is running. As this has been so for 2 or 3 months and her battery has not gone flat, the usual causes can be discounted. I'm looking at the car later this week and any suggestions would be welcome. It's a M Reg 1100cc Fiesta.

I have just bought a new diesel engined car and being a sad sack was watching an infomercial on a product called Duralube, it got me thinking, do engine oil treatments like Duralube, slick 50 etc have any benefit? If they have I assume you put them in after you have run the engine in and what about the warranty is that invalidated?

  • Rover 75 8 May 2003 (Forum)
I'm tempted to buy a Rover 75 (not new obviously) but seem to run up against a lot of people who warn me against it, though this could well be due to perceptions based on previous poor quality. I'll be spending 12-14k for a top of the range model with sat-nav; Is there an alternative worth thinking about in this kind of price range that is perhaps a better bet?
  • Gadgets 8 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I seem to recall that the US Fuzz have an electronic gadget that can disable engine management systems from a distance. These are used to stop errant vehicles without running them off the road. Anybody know any more? Please can I have one. Would it be legal to use on the baseball capped b*****ds who persist in passing my home at 70+ (yes it is a 30 Limit)
