  • Driving Instructor Grades 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
If I understand correctly driving instructors are rated 1-6 according to their ability. Does it depend on their test scores they obtain on becoming an instructor or overall experience/pass rate %? I'm a loser, baby....so why don't you kill me?!

  • Driving licence @ 70 9 May 2022 (Forum)
I will be 70 later this year and will need to renew my driving licence. I also drive the volunteer minibus, taking people shopping etc. This mean I need to have the D1 category on my licence. I obtained this under grandfather rights when the plastic cards came in but if I renew online then both D1 and C1 (light trucks) are removed.
  • Any - Driving with Alzheimer’s Disease 7 Apr 2022 (Forum)
However the DVLA seems to give more latitude for individual assessment of the degree of cognitive impairment, stating: “May be able to drive but must notify DVLA. It is difficult to assess driving ability in people with dementia. DVLA acknowledges that there are varied presentations and rates of progression, and the decision on licensing is usually based on medical reports.

  • The Driving Experience 19 Oct 2019 (Forum)
But as technology and innovation has evolved, it comes to question just how certain technologies may change the driving experience particularly with autonomous vehicles, and how drivers or car culture in general might also change.  I would like to understand your experiences of driving, your reasoning of car ownership, and your thoughts on current/ future technologies.
  • Driving Mini Buses 10 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I have Cat D1 on my licence which entitles me to drive a mini bus. I do this at the moment, and it is a 15 seater. These are under "grandfathers" rights as I got my licence before the new regulations. I am a bit confused. I just want to drive a 9 seat mini bus for hire and reward.

  • Songs about cars and driving 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I know we've had threads about the best music to drive to in the past, but have we had one about songs that are about driving or cars? Reason I ask is that I've just downloaded Chuck Berry's Anthology (sad I know, but I've been a fan of his since the late '50s and have lots on vinyl, but wanted some on CD for listening in the car) and it reminded me that there are some great songs which are just about cars or driving - eg "No money down" and "You Can't catch me" (lyrics at http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/n/nomoneydown.shtml and http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/y/youcantcatchme.shtml Even better - a video of it!!

  • The standard of my girlfriend's driving. 26 Jan 2005 (Forum)
If anything had been coming either way, heavens knows what would have happened. She doesn't seem capable of driving in a straight line very well, either driving over every drain or over every cat's eye. I've seen her mount kerbs, reverse into my car, do 90mph in driving rain with 20 yard visibility....all sorts.
  • Drive Shaft End Float - Citroen XM 27 Jul 2003 (Forum)
They were pretty well rusted on, and quite a lot of force and application of FBH (hammer) was apparently used. A sensible practice? I have now noticed a slight whine from the final drive area at around 2800 rpm in fifth (approx 80mph). Any idea if/what may have been damaged? I would have thought that the final drive area was pretty robust. Or maybe the whine is from the new balancer/alternator belts.
