    Not been using my car much for the last few weeks but noticed today that when I turned on the air-con, the green/yellow indicator light came on as usual but there was minimal if any cooling.  In the past I've noticed that when I've turned the aircon on when driving in low gear there's been a slight change in engine revs and sometimes a clunk sound but that doesn't seem to be happening now so I'm wondering if there's been some electrical and/or mechanical failure as opposed to a leak of refrigerant.

  It is most prevalent when you first start the engine (especially so if the engine is cold) and if the engine is revved. At first I thought it was some fault with the air-con, as it seemed to happen when the air-con is being used, however due to the recent wonderful weather I haven't used the air-con for a while and the noise is still there! After a short drive the sound is completely gone.

  Hi there i've got a w plate mondeo 1.8 TD Ghia X Estate (For my sins) I've started gettin a problem when i turn on the air con. The engine starts surging and dipping, noticeable both whilst stood and when cruising along.This is disconcerting when on a long run. Is there anything i can do or do i need to take it to a main dealer, or will/are there local specialist that may be able to deal with it.

  One for Dave N but I've lost your e.mail address. This time last year air con gave up the ghost due to leaking pipes to and from the compressor ( common 306 problem! ). When I eventully got the pipes from Peugeot summer was nearly over. Pipes fitted and re gassed. Worked beautifully.

  So I was going up the M4 with no air con, with stale air recirculating, and a misted windscreen. I got it clear by using the fast demist button. Ignition off & on cured it. Happened again after an hour, and once again on the return journey to West Wales this morning.

  I got the car back and they said the system seemed fine and they simply gassed it up and away I went with cool air and a working compressor!   I actually had to pull over and run the fans at full power for about five minutes before the car cleared again. What I'm wondering is whether this indicates a fault someone, a leak somewhere in the air con system, or just that because it was 4° C. the air-conditioning pump had turned itself off, with resultant condensation. The car was on auto the whole way there, and was on auto until the point where it steamed up on the way back.
