Xantia Problems and Servicing 4 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Can I expect future servicing to be this expensive? It had a complete service history as well! (Which Citroen have now lost!) Thanks Phillip. Phillip.M.Darlington@ds.co.uk -
cutting out 11 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Strange.) Anyway - they're fitting the part, on the basis that they've nothing to lose, and I expect Citroen to stump up the £16 it costs. But it's going to take them a fortnight to deliver the part, so I'll have it back in the meantime - and what's the betting the thing cuts out the minute I pick it up? -
So, the cylinder head is cracked...... 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Earlier readers will have heard my query re the fluctuating coolant in the expansion bottle of my 1990 Citroen BX TGD. Well the head appears cracked and repair seems the order of the day! But the best way forward without buying a new engine??? The current head has been skimmed 3 times hence may not take any more. -
Coolant level 23 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Does coolant "find its own level" in an expansion bottle or should it be within recommended levels given by the manufacturer? And if it does find its own level how critical should this be? The car is my Citroen BX TGD 1990 (written of before). Since the cylinder head has been replaced with a skimmed unit, the coolant level has been of this order: last Saturday picked up car - noticed trickle of coolant thru filler hole after driving home. -
Shed some light, please 14 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Newspapers, plenty. Wilting flowers, loads. Sweets of all sorts etc. etc. As a long time owner of various Citroens, I have ofter been accused of having quirky French junk on my drive, but I've never had to clear my diary to change a headlamp bulb before. Or am I missing something? -
Petrol, diesel, hybrid? (No EVs please) - Advice on car for retirement 2 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Not a great fan of the Germans having seen mates go through all sorts of nightmares with VWs and Mercs, while I'm not and never have been a BMW type (qv all those Citroens and Saabs over the years). Bit suspicious of Volvo since the Chinese takeover but I'm probably looking anyway at something that predates that. Open to Japanese or Korean though. I have a Mazda MX5, kept garaged, for sunny days though it only gets about 1000 miles a year, and I have thought of replacing both with a single car. -
Citroen C-Crosser - Advice on MOT history on used car 18 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi I'm about to buy my first used car - found one with 90 000miles on the clock and a good price. Just wanted to understand if any of these issues... -
Buyers Experience - Motorpoint, Carsite, Skoda etc 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Follow up phone call made later in the day as promised to give us best price on the vehicle we'd driven. Very very impressive. 10/10 I'll credit Citroen, Skoda and Motorpoint for all giving equal attention to both self and SWMBO... given that it's her own money anything else would have been sales suicide. -
Citroen C4 Picasso 7-st (2007 - ) - - 10 day hire car review 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Been back a couple of weeks now, but thought was worth the thread. Had a C4 Grand Picasso as hire car for holiday in Spain with wife, 2 daughter and parents,... -
Peugeot 508 - Peugeot 508 2019 engine and clutch failure 2 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Aside from not buying another Peugeot, what other options do I have to address this awful service and situation? Been off the road for 2 months now and driving around in a dire Citroen c3 “courtesy car” out of pocket. I bought the car with cash from new but now must ponder if a lease may be better in future to give them greater responsibility. -
Recommendations - used mini MPV, wheelchair etc. 14 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I realise that I've asked a lot, but a car that gets most of them right would be great. Some models I've looked at: Citroen C3 Picasso. This is the one I've earmarked for a while as being my future car. But it doesn't (I think) have heated windscreen, or low tax, at least in the years I can afford. Honda Jazz. -
Cheap running costs for 10k/year commute 3 Dec 2016 (Forum)
The "real world mpg" feature of this site seems to bear this out, with (for example) the Citroen C1 quoted at 68.9mpg and actually obtaining 53. It is difficult and frustrating to assess running costs in this new world where the manufacturers' mpg figures are pure fiction. Advice appreciated! -
Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Fabia, Volvo V40 - Cheap Motorway Car? 5 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I'd really like a Golf, but I'd be looking at more like £2000 for the insurance, which I refuse to pay. Current contenders are; Volvo v40 2ltr Diesel, Skoda Fabia 1.9TDI or perhaps a Citroen C4 - all of these seem to be under the £1400 insurance mark which is doable. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it! -
Struggling on which used car to buy next 28 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi everyone I currently have a Citroen Xsara Piasso Exclusiv 2002. It has served me very well for the last five years. I can't make up my mind what to choose next. I have £5K, will take mileage up to 100K. Things I like about the CXP that are important to me and influence the next car I buy are: - The low windows in the back means my children get a good view out and motion sickness has all but disappeared - very important as they used to hurl everywhere -
Choices:- Focus 11 tdci zetec or C4 11 hdi VTR+ 4 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Trying to decide which to get, choice has been reduced to either the new 2011 ford focus tdci (115 ps) zetec or the new shape Citroen C4 hdi110 vtr+. I know I had a very very poor experience with Citroën in the past but the new C4 looks very tempting. I have also had poor experiences of ford in the past but the new focus looks well put together, very stylish, decently equiped and drives very very well. -
Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - Sanity check 22 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Evening/Morning all Thinking about changing cars again and wanted some opinions and advice... Due to illness, my better half is unlikely to be able to drive again. We currently have a 55 Citroen C4 Coupe and an 04 Mazda MX5. We bought an 08 Dog and as he's getting bigger he's getting too big for the boot of the c4. There's comedy value in having him sat next to me in the MX5 but that leaves my good lady at home. -
advice on 4x4 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I also am getting bored of spending so much at the fuel pumps so don't really want to go below about 38mpg. My two front runners at the moment are: Subaru Outback Diesel Citroen C-Crosser I will confess to not knowing much about either, apart from having a Mitsu Outlander on loan for a while. Seemed a nice car in town. I know that it isn't a mud plugger either but hope that it can manage more than a wet grass field. -
Who has either given or received a car as a gift? 13 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Was it out of MOT or a non runner, or was it just 'in the way'? I myself have been given a non running Citroen Xantia by an ex colleague. I had to pay someone to drop it off to my house, then made the mistake of thinking it was worth putting back on the road. By the time I had changed the engine, sorted out the cooling problem and got it through the MOT it cost more than the car was worth/eventually sold for on e bay. -
PT Cruise replacement 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
He is not a petrol head but I think the PT Cruiser is at the lower end of the performance spectrum. I don't know if a petrol Berlingo would be OK or not ? My suggestions are: ? Citroen C4 Picasso or, original Xsara Picasso. ? Ford C-Max, possibly S-Max ? Maybe, a SEAT Altea (XL) not sure if it is raised enough. ? VW Touran ? Nissan Cashcow ? At a push a Renault Scenic or Vauxhall Zafira though, he may not remain a friend if I recommend either of these. -
