Vauxhall 1.7 CDTI 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Also, does anyone know if adjustable steering columns were standard on newer Astras?. Our V reg does not have one yet a friend's W reg does. None of the cars I have seen for sale list it and checking Vauxhall's website only shows info on the new shape cars. -
Focus Rattle 30 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have just bought my wife 1 year old Focus 1.6 Zetec and am generally very happy with the car all round. The only niggling problem I have is a rattle coming from the rear end when driving at moderate speeds on country lanes. I have tried to troubleshoot this by removing everything from the boot, including the spare and jack from the wheel-well, as well as the parcel shelf. -
Well done West Yorks Police! 1 Aug 2004 (Forum)
"> Noise Nuisance Driver Silenced Thursday, July 22, 2004 A 21-year-old Bradford man whose car sound system caused shop windows to vibrate and stationary vehicles' alarms to be activated has had his car seized by police. Over the last few months evidence has come to light about a black Honda Civic being driven around Bradford City Centre with excessively loud music blaring from it. <" More here: http://tinyurl.com/4hm8t Now if only other UK police forces would follow this excellent example in how to use the Police Reform Act. -
Colour of oil after a service 10 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I've owned a lot of petrol cars over the years and am used to the oil after a service remaining fairly clean and golden coloured for a couple of thousand miles at least. My new diesel-engined car has just had its first service and to my surprise the new oil is (after checking the level after just 15 miles!) -
Oil Changes 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Well I have fished out my old invoice and I have been charged for QXR oil which I believe is Duckhams, cant find anything on the web, but can anyone answer the following please. 1) Would this oil be suitable for my car? 2) If not what damage could/has been done? -
Road rage 15 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Apologies in advance if I'm going over old subject matter, but has anyone else noticed an increase in road rage over this last week. Is the so-called 'possibility' of war turning drivers a bit funny? In addition to the two incidents I mentioned on the fog lights thread, I witnessed another incident this morning where a BMW overtook another car, slammed on his brakes, jumped out and had 'words' with the other driver. -
insurance requirements? 28 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have an old banger which I run as a second car and i'm trying to work out what the least I can pay to insure it is? I have a policy in my own name for another vehicle which allows me to drive other vehicles third party only. -
dealer servicing on new car 19 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Having recently purchased a Toyota Avensis Diesel at auction, I am now wondering about main dealer servicing. Its nearly ready for its first service (at... -
Mondeo TDCI Starting problem 25 May 2002 (Forum)
There is a beeping sound from under the bonnet and the glow plug indicator light flashes. The main agent says they can find nothing wrong, having had the car for a day, but there clearly is something amiss. It makes no difference if the car has been used for a long or short run and otherwise is a real pleasure to have. Can any of you clever folk give me a clue as to what might be wrong? -
They are about! 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I had one once, and it had one great feature for its time; the heater output temperature varied immediately and exactly with the control movement as soon as the car was hot. There are one or two Minors in everyday use around Dundee, one as a pickup. Selling old car:- "Can't give you much for that, they could hardly sell them when new......" A month or two later, in advertisement:- ".....this rare and much sought after model......" -
Volvo 740/760 (1984 - 1990) - Should the garage proprietor also do the MOT's? 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I was swiftly ushered away into the waiting room (after so many years I'd got sufficient rapport with the previous staff that I did the second mans job during my tests) and could only watch while the poor old Volvo was subjected to the most severe rogering that it has ever experienced, I kid you not, it took as long for the man to type out the two failure and three advisory sheets as it did for the actual test, I suppose he thought at 21 years old and nearly a quarter of a million miles the car deserved nothing less. -
Old vw beetle for potential restore. 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
It was really annoying having to stop driving it. A woman in a rover pulled out in front of me and I slid into the side of her car. My car was pretty much undamaged but hers was big time dented and she was making out it was as much my fault as hers. Cue forms to the insurers to try to sort it out, and the temporary loss of my NCD pending investigation. -
Honda CRV mark I - Refurbish or Replace ? 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I suspect after this the car will keep going for another 4 years with routine maintenance ? or Sell or part ex the honda and buy, say, a 5/6 year old ford focus or mondeo diesel. My budget would be £2500 plus whatever I get for the Honda. -
Volvo 740 GL -Cutting out 10 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Many thanks Rita. P.S. Are you all the equivalent of Terry Wogan's Old Geezers - you know, those who have reached a certain age in life and therefore have a decidely quizzical take on the world. Can anyone join the club - rhetorical, rhetorical, rhetorical. I'm just an Old Gertie trying to solve a problem so that I can keep a car that I love dearly. -
Ford Fiesta - Disappointing new models 23 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Why? The old car sold well and its individual style must have had something to do with that. A car that was definitely replaced by an inferior model was the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It had Golf-like space in a body the size of the Up! -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Best car, worst car 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Worst car is my current, Focus, a 1.8tdci which has just had a new clutch/flywheel at only 18 months old and 18,000 miles. It's amazing how Ford appears to be going backwards in terms of reliability and quality. -
Paint mismatch 10 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I bought my wife a car from a well know car supermarket (Focus 1.6 Zetec in machine silver). The car was 9 months old when purchased. We bought the car in mid July but have only recently noticed that the drivers door is a slightly different shade to the rest of the car (or the rear door at least). -
BMW 5 Series - Changing my 5 Series for a more 'sensible' car 8 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I have had a 5 series for 7 years, it's a lovely car and is now 10 years old. I have a chronic health condition which affects my mobility and will need to get a car that is easier to get in and out of. I no longer do a lot of miles (due to the health condition) but do still make a trip to the Dordogne in France for a family holiday each year. -
Leasing or Renting a car in the UK 25 Jul 2024 (Forum)
As posted elsewhere, our old Subaru has reached the end of its working life after 20 years and needs to be replaced soon. We decided to buy a new car and looked at hybrid options but as we have to place the car in storage and are out of the country for up to 6 months of the year, hybrids posed a question mark. -
BMW 3 Series - Car Damaged by a Child 5 Feb 2024 (Forum)
My car has been parked on my drive and the neighbours child aged approx 6/7 years old has put a massive dent in the car door, this is the second time this child has damaged my car on my drive within the last year (first time scratched the bumper with their bike).
