  • Should i buy a factory spec dual fuel/LPG car? 8 May 2010 (Forum)
If so what is available and how the heck can one search for models available? I know of a man locally running a factory spec dual fuel Vauxhall, plus a retrofit Honda, both of which he is very pleased with. I would otherwise be a diesel "nut" but with all the newly developed problems/technologies am a wee bit circumspect about purchasing diesel again looking to do 200,000 plus miles over 10 plus years in any car purchased Cos I absolutly hate giving car dealers  money cheers M
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.6 HDI Fuel Cap Sensor-Anti Pollution 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi Guys, Couple days ago I had an "Anti Pollution" message in my 54 reg car. Since then my friend has read OBD codes which were P2408-Fuel Cap Sensor and P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low. Does any one know what do I have to do in order to fix these problems (apart from going to a dealer)? Or at least where the above can be located?
  • Fuel economy with engine pre-heater 28 Feb 2009 (Forum)
As I keep detailed records in a spreadsheet, I can report that since I installed a Kenlowe engine pre-heater in my MB Coupé (3.2 litres), fuel consumption has improved from 25.92 mpg cumulative pre-Kenlowe to 27.96 mpg over the Kenlowe period of 11 months. I have used it throughout the year, except on a handful of occasions. Whether the savings balance out the cost of electricity consumed I don't yet know, but the major benefits are of course the health of the engine and immediate comfort within the car on cold days.
  • Has anyone "distress sold" their car? 16 May 2008 (Forum)
Perverse logic seems to be taking over in that people will spend £3K, for example, to save £1K a year on fuel/tax costs.
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - 96 Cabriolet, 5 speed auto fuel consumption 24 Sep 2007 (Forum)
It is a 1996 e320 cabriolet with a 5 speed auto. The car is running very well hot and cold but the fuel consumption is always in the low 20s - it is about 5mpg worse than my previous model. Any ideas what to check - all the usual has been done - tyres, brakes, engine has just been serviced. s
  • Diesel *fuel* engine flush oil light on 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Using diesel fuel as a flushing oil, outcomes? I`ve heard about it for years and have always been horrified at the thought of the camlobe pressures (etc) when Derv is used as a flushing oil. But on another forum, someone has just run a petrol engine for 30mins at tickover on derv instead of engine oil with the oil pressure light on the whole time.
  • 306 D Turbo - Fuel Starvation. 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Now as the car hasnt started when I withdraw the glowplug would I be correct in assuming that I should be able to see diesel on the glowplug, but at the mo they are dry, could this mean that I am not getting fuel through to the combustion chamber? If so any advice? Many thanks Danny
  • Three Per Cent Off Your Fuel 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
http://www.gemoney.co.uk/html/creditcard/everyday_creditcardproductpage.shtml This is a credit card that pays three per cent cashback on fuel and groceries, or, to be precise, purchases from petrol stations and food retailers. I've applied for one, which probably means it's jinxed. It'll be my third cashback card: the others either drastically reduced the rate or stopped offering cashback altogether.

  • More 2nd Hand Vehicle after sales faults 25 Jan 2003 (Forum)
My brother bought in last year a Vauxhall Brava 4x4 pick up 1995 M from a 4x4 independent specialist, we have subsequently discovered that there are two severe cracks and corrosion in the rear chassis members running all the way from the rear to the cab, this is following problems with air getting into the fuel system, due to corroded fuel lines and fuel tank leaking. Is there any comeback, the Vauxhall dealer says that it couldn't have legally passed its MOT with this corrosion. The Vauxhall dealer said contact trading standards etc.

  • Vectra 2.0 Di fuel pump 8 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I wrote a while ago with the problem of a vectra that ran sluggish from cold every now and then. Well the time has come where it's not running at all and on quick inspection they think it's the fuel pump and the none official price quote was very high indeed. Does anyone know how long these units should last for miles/years and if it's worthwhile/possible to buy reconditioned or non vauxhall units, the guy at the garage suggest the pumps cost from £700 - 2000 + VAT depending on type and needless to say I really can't afford that.

  • Does the trip computer on my car give accurate fuel economy readings? 15 Nov 2018 (Ask HJ)
My Ford Mondeo the dashboard info tells me my average mpg is 57.2 - way above what I see on Real MPG. Could this be a true figure or computer error?
  • Have BP or shell admitted to not enough detergent? 1 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Is there an instance anywhere of a BP or Shell representative stating that their standard fuels do not have sufficient levels of detergent or cleaning properties to keep a new or already clean engine clean? If not, anyone in a position to pose such a question? All the data I can find for the premium fuels are for an already dirty engine (claims that they clean off the carbon deposits), or are comparisons vs fuels with no detergents in them.

  • Vauxhall Zafira A - fuel pump 25 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Two weeks ago whilst at work it just wouldn't start, no warning lights or signs to tell me something was wrong beforehand.  after a lot of investigation it was narrowed down to a fault on the fuel pump/ ecu. My car is currently off the road being repaired.     Today I used my husbands car for work. A 2004 1.9 dci Renault megane. Started fine then all of a sudden wouldn't start,  had it looked at and again have been told it is the fuel pump.
  • Focus / CMax 1600ccTDCi - fuel issue / limp home 6 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi I have read about a possible issue with the fuel filter becoming  easily blocked with emulsion, and the car going into limp home mode.  This happened to me and with a fuel error coming up on the diagnostic,  we changed the filter and all has been OK.
