  i run a set of steel wheels during the winter to save my nice alloys..ive noticed the michelins i have on there are cracking due to old age i guess anyway they'l soon need replacing. are remoulds worth thinking about?

  I had to jump-start my car using booster cables this morning. The sequence I used was 1 Have donor car running 2. Attach positive cable to donor 3 Positive to donee 4 Then negative as per steps two and three Was this correct. It started. What are the risks of using an alternative sequence? Regards John

  Turn off the engine and listen to the radio while waiting for a late running (again)train to arrive. After 10 minutes radio cuts out and a little light goes on saying "Economy Mode". Drives me mad. Is the battery power so marginal that the radio (standard fit) will drain it after 10 mins.

  I have a 1997 vauxhall vectra 2.0 Di GLS and until recently the light would illuminate on start up as is normal.However it now only does it now and again.I have already changed the glow plugs but still the problem persists.Could this be a faulty relay or fuse as the car still runs normally

  In warm weather, or when engine is hot it will start fine. Battery is good and new glow plugs made no difference whatsoever. Once it has started it runs well after a puff of smoke has cleared. Any ideas chaps?

  A couple of times the Engine dianogstic light has flashed on for a few seconds then goes out. The car seems to run fine and it only seems to happen when coasting down hill I did clean the engine so maybe its water but that was a while ago Any ideas?

  I find it stalls easily if I let the clutch in too quickly and it is only getting 27 miles per gallon. Otherwise it seems to run OK. Is this normal or is there something wrong with it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Martin.

  The battery is to go into a 406 1.9 TD & will be mostly used by my wife to take herself to college & 2 of our kids to school. It will do no more than 8 miles a day MON-FRI with a distance run every other month. I'm thinking heavy duty but other peoples recommendations readily accepted. TIA

  thinking of buying a 98-99 Peugeot 306 Diesel and wondered if any of you have experience of ownership. Is it worthwhile and what are the running costs (service etc) compared to a petrol version. I've had a look at what HJ says I should look out for, but as there are literally hundreds out there for sale, what should I be looking for. Are there any 'better' alternatives?

  y reg Clio 1.2 every time I come to a halt ie trafic lights etc the thing wont sit at idle ,it cuts out.Dealer says Throttle body and wireing must be replaced at a cost of one arm and one leg (£650.00).Help!If I run the car like this, will it damage anything or just shorten the starter and ignition switch life.

  Hi, A pal of mine runs an X reg Scenic 1.9Dci as a taxi and has over 250,000 miles on it. Can anyone comment on the longevity of the injectors and glow plugs on this engine - its started to get a little sluggish recently.

  short n sweet put unleaded in my citreon diesel xsara drove 3 miles just made it back engine still running just, what damage am i looking at knowing the fact that i have to drain the fuel tank any thing else i should replace? thanks ps non turbo engine

  It has been serviced on schedule very 6 months. Reading the forums here I see that the engine has a few particular requiements, short runs etc. Is there anything that can be done, in case the engine has been mistreated? It doesn't show any problems at the moment.

  My Brother in laws Renault megane Scenic (petrol, 1600cc)is using coolent at a rate of about 1 litre every 2 days. The car runs OK, does not white smoke, has no apparent leaks (system pressurised to 1.5 bar - held steady). New cap has been fitted -no improvement. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  My 1.4 Corolla has developed a whine fro the engine; according to the garage that checked it, due to the aux drive belt having some wear. Question - is it safe to continue running the engine ? They reckon the aux drive belt only connects the power steering pump and alternator. It's done 150K now.
