  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - (99-04)2.2 petrol - ABS problem (UK car in Malawi) 19 Apr 2008 (Forum)
We have a car here in Africa that a customer imported from UK so different to our normal specs. however the brakes are giving a typical ABS pulsing sensation when braking at slow speeds (Brake and clutch together type speeds) and there is a significant grating noise as the vehicle stops.
  • Speedometer size and position on the dashboard 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
are we all supposed to be deaf?) Also the gradations on many speedos are set at 0;20;40;60;80;mph etc whereas the most important speed is 30 and 70mph and 50mph is almost as common as 40mph. I know most of the cars are produced abroad now but do the designers of cars never visit GB when they specify the instrumentation What are the journalists doing about this?
  • Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - New tyres required opinions please 14 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Two new front tyres are required on SWMBO Yaris - at moment 195/50/15 Toyo Proxi's are on and they have been very good tyres - I have done a search and have come up with a list and all are priced around £55-£65 each -budget tyres are not considered Toyo Proxi's Avon ZV3 Goodyear GT2 Continental Eco Contact or Premium Contact Michelin Pilot Elacto 2 All these tyres fall in same price bracket give or take £15 the pair - before I go out and get some more Toyo's has anyone any views on those I have listed or any I haven't listed - tyre noise is not an issue as the Yaris is about the noisiest car I have ever been in but wear and wet grip is important Thanks Dave
  • New Car This Summer - Ideas 18 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I would like to get something that is fun to drive for when I am home and has a bit of class to it. Also residuals are important as I would like to tie my money up in something that isnt going to sit at home for 3 years depreciating like a stone/fiesta. I dont mind something a bit older (but not too much) and with a few more miles (Fiesta has 32000) as I wont be putting that much on.
  • Buying car over the phone / internet 2 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Surely this is unfair contract terms applies as a company cannot just cannot opt out of the law on one hand. On the other this company uses EU regs on car manufacturers and import cars from wherever - undercutting UK based companies. Have we any BR lawyers about?
  • £3000 to spend on a motor to Geneva 26 May 2006 (Forum)
What are the honest John recommendations for a cheap reliable workhorse? I think trouble free motoring is most important, I have had my fare share of buying from the heart cars, now I am trying to buy using my head.
  • Mondeo TDCI engine-heater fuse blows?? 24 Mar 2006 (Forum)
but I will have to pay if no fault is found or a wiring snag is found. Not all models have this heater, is it important? is it worth the gamble? (2)Does anyone have experience of these heaters or have they had similar problems? Many Thanks Len
  • Car recommendation for my fair lady 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
First of all, am I right in thinking that she'd be safer in a say Suzuki Grand Vitara, than a Golf? And also importantly would this still apply if it was the 3-door Grand Vitara/Rav4 say. Important 'cos the shorter length would be easier for her to cope with, living in Laaandan. My budget is 4000grand. Could buy old Grand Vitara, but Rav4 out of reach I think. Honda CR-V to big. HR-V too expensive still.
  • Help replacing my Mondeo 27 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I started looking at Audi (A4 and A6), VW Passat, Volvo, Saab, Mazda MX6, Honda Accord, Nissan Primera... not too keen on BMW's or Jags, just because of the type of person who normally drives them -(;0) I've got about £10k to spend, if I get a good trade in on the Mondeo and also shift the Shogun - I've been looking at Diesels for fuel economy, performance isn't too important although I've always loved the V6 sound -(:0). Gadgets are compelling, but I've almost disregarded the Primera despite its tech, because it looks so dull! So come on then - give me your pointers and guidance.
  • 12.5K to spend! 28 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I drive 25-30K miles a year so realistically should be a diesel. Only me and the wife so configuration (hatch/saloon/ragtop) not important but it must have cruise control & Sat Nav. New would be good but up to a year old acceptable. No supercars (although I'd love a TVR I really couldn't bear the running costs. The best I have managed so far is a Nissan Primera 2.2 dCi SE 2005 spec with Sat Nav & cruise plus lots of other stuff on it as standard.
  • Help appreciated on selecting new car 7 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Want 03 reg to be as old as it gets, ruling out BMW's - any suggestions? Co2 / list price new and budget all important. SAAB 9-5 2.2TiD Estate maybe? Good suggestions as to where to source, i.e: not main dealer, not car supermarket appreciated! Cheers!
  • Springtime mx5 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
anyway I'm looking for some advice on where to buy without getting caned at this time of year, budget up to £7k, eunos mk1 or mx-5 mk1 or 2. With new ones going for £12.7k it does seem to make a 10year jap import at 4.5-5k retail look a tad pricey! is it possible to buy direct off the boat in auctions in dublin, I thought I had heard of this before. Otherwise any advice appreciated (uk auctions, private seller?)
  • Complacency over safety 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My friend was driving a Mondeo and walked out it with minor bruising. I for one, will have a serious rethink about the cars I drive and how important is it to have electric windows, air con etc, as opposed to having a car that I can climb out of after an accident.
  • Best car for 10k 19 Jan 2004 (Forum)
At work i drive Diesels all day but im very flexible about what I get. Ive been looking at loads of cars, Fiesta, Focus, Fabia TDi, Polo TDi,prereg 323, octavia Tdi (import), Megane Dci 80, Almera 1.5, I dont have a family .I like diesels but my commute is short. I value comfort and a good driving position, and I like a bit of space, and I have a limit of around 10k to 10.5k tops.
  • Dangerous diesel spills 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Now that diesel cars are becoming increasingly popular over there, it is important that their drivers are educated about the dangers to motorcyclists of spillage of diesel from over- and careless filling. At the very least manufacturers should spell this out in handbooks, or maybe on inside of the gas cap door.
  • Call in The Air Ambulance? 24 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Are there any locations at which it is impossible to use the road ambulance? Is it the case that a few egos have to be massaged - "we are more important/wealthy than you, we have an air ambulance in our area" I have heard that frequently a road ambulance is in the vicinity, but it cannot be used because "that is an air ambulance job" as a consequence the injured are slower getting to hospital and motorists are delayed more.
  • why did you choose your car ? 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
What car do you drive and what made you choose it ? Was it just looks (are you sure ??) or was it something more important like, fuel economy, size, practicality, cost, performance, driving pleasure ? Come on - what car do you drive and why did you buy it ? I'd also like like to know why some people get so upset about others not liking their cars (Fiat thread).
  • Valuation please for Xantia 1.9TD Estate 28 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I'm thinking about selling my 1996 (N reg) Xantia 1.9TD Estate, it's the "base" model and I mean base - no electric windows, sunroof, aircon, ABS etc. though it has got remote central locking and an immobiliser. Now the important bits; 1 previous owner (ex-fleet), "doom" blue, 136K with full service history (MD till 109K then Citroen specialist, serviced every 6K). All the bits and pieces are working fine, MOT till Nov'03, Tax till May'03.
