Lane discipline - a dying art? 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Not much fun when you have 120 miles to drive, and have already covered 360 miles that day (not all driven by me I add). It's clear that the 5-lane stretch of the M25 round by Heathrow will be wasted, to get a true 5-lane you would have to go up to a physical 8-lane layout..... -
Good Customer Service 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
No movement so I thought probably looking at a new wiper motor £100 or so including fitting- I thought well I have had a good run , the first problem with the car in four years and that was not covered in warranty. I decided to drop in to my local Honda dealer on the way to work and asked if somebody could have a quick look. Mechanic came out , very friendly ,I explained what had happened , he checked it over , squirted the rear washer and then proceeded to wipe the water over the rear screen with his hands , lifted the wiper , put it back on the screen and it worked. -
Box van worries 14 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The truck was supposed to be delivered at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. In actual fact it, it's just been delivered now. The two drivers have parked it in my flat car park, reversing it rather hard into a hedge to try and make it fit, have given me the keys and left. I have no paperwork of any sort, and although I have rung their office and had confirmed that my rental doesn't start until Saturday morning in the period between the delivery drivers ringing and them actually getting here, I'm feeling rather exposed. -
Fiesta 1.416v Zetec Won't Start 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
All fluids are fine and nothing seems obviously out of place. There is fuel in the tank. From the problem first occuring to the car conking out- cover and the cams are turning so nothing like the cam belt it doesn't seem. I haven't checked to see if there's a spark. I haven't checked if the fuel filter is clogged or something like that. -
306 1.8 idle control valve 5 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Everything pointed to the idle control valve getting gummy, so I undid the two torx screws and withdrew it from the throttle body. The valve itself (a rod with a chamfered end) was indeed covered in a gummy residue that looked like mixing pencil graphite with old engine oil, so I wiped it dry, carefully cleaned it with Gunk, dried it, cleaned the rod's mating chamfered face in the throttle body with a clean and dry cloth, then put it back together and reconnected the wiring plug. -
Focus TDCi smoke problems 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, further to my post in discussion, I've just picked up a 53 reg Focus TDCi that seemed to smoke quite heavily when accelerating under load, especially in second. On the way home we got stuck in a bad traffic jam that took the best part of 2 hours to cover 6 miles, whilst in this jam I noticed it was even worse, emitting huge clouds during the little bits of progress that we made, as I put it into second (at quite a low speed) and put my foot down, out came all the smoke. -
how oily can a flywheel be? Primera 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
But right from picking up the car I\'ve had a bad clutch judder. Informed the garage, they said they\'d noticed it too, but leave it for a few weeks and see if it bedded-in. Two full months later and it\'s just as bad. Garage had another test drive and agree it judders and haven\'t mentioned any other cause like engine mounts. -
Toyota build quality - am I unlucky? 25 Jun 2003 (Forum)
And now it's in for 3 days to have the gearbox rebuilt to cure a whine and to have the timing belt cover gasket re-sealed as it had started leaking oil. Granted most of these are things that didn't affect the actual running of the car, but even still I'd expected more from Toyota. I'm wondering now if I've just been unlucky and got a bad one, although as it was 2.5 years old when I bought it, surely most of the bugs should have been ironed out? -
Golf service 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I had thought today was going to be good until this happened. I then went to the bank where I nearly got clobbered by an exploding man hole cover (missed it by 30 secs!). Best not go out tonight! Ta. -
Ruined battery ? 12 Aug 2001 (Forum)
The only thing I can think of is that the oil may be a little on the thick side (and rather old by the look of it - I've not had the car long but it doesn't look like it's been changed in a while) ie. 20w50, could this be a contributing factor ? Finally - sorry to be so windy on this, my first post, but I have just returned from a 3 week trip abroad and surprise surprise, the old girl refused to start when I first tried her. -
Possible Fraudulent MOT and dishonest dealer 8 Mar 2023 (Forum)
I insisted that the car was fine and I even drove it to their dealership twice in the previous week, covering a distance of almost 200 miles, without any issues. They tried to guilt me into taking my old car back and even said that both cars have issues so we want to undo the deal, to which I declined as I wanted a bigger car and wasn't sure what did they do to my car. -
help for a friend - no v5c or v5c/2 with new pre-reg car 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
since 23/4/13 date my friend has had to keep this, his first car, stored away in the garage and not been able to use it even once - ofcourse his insurance cover, which was started on 23/4/13 with the expectation that he'd at least hold the new owner supplement slip when he go tthe car, is on the basis that the car is registered in the main driver's name (him). he called the dvla on 29/4/13 to see if at least his name is attached to the car's registration plate on their database but still it is not (though ofcourse they didnt specify who was due to personal data protections). -
Seat Ibiza FR 1.0 (115) TSI - 3 Years and 46000 miles On 4 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I wish they’d put a single bulb in the front and another in the back. The car only has one poor reversing light, which isn’t much good for seeing with when reversing in the dark. When the car had its MOT, I had a 22 plate TSI Ibiza FR Sport as a courtesy car. Interestingly it had reverted to (strange looking) rear brake drums rather than discs. -
MINI Cooper and Cooper S - How safe are our Classic Cars? 11 Dec 2015 (Forum)
It certainly needs someone to wake up those who can influence positive outcomes before their are fatalities involving classic cars. -
Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 07 1.4 Head Gasket/Water Coolant/Engine failure 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I'm not silly and no that they are going to get out of this as it looks as though its going to be a big job and they may have to replace the engine. I'm so annoyed as the car is so young and the recovery guy said this normally happens on cars 10 years old. I've had problem after problem with this car since i've had it and this could end up costing me a fortune (2K plus), do you think i have a case to take this futher? -
SAAB 9-3 (2007 - ) - Saabs gone downhill, or rose tints at work? 1 May 2008 (Forum)
Wind forward a decade or so, and SWMBO is off on one of her occasional business trips. As usual the company have provided a hire car for her, and as it was short notice, they've given her the only car they had available, a beautiful black 08 plate 9-3 Aero Sportwagon auto. As I grabbed the keys to go for a drive, I felt a pang of anticipation and excitement that no car in years has provided. -
Hyundai Ioniq EV - First 1500 all electric miles 9 Jun 2021 (Forum)
The more we drive the car, the more we like it. My wife, who normally doesn't care about a car at all as long as it goes reliably, really loves it, both as a car and the whole electric car experience. It's no sports car, but as a comfortable cruiser across town, motorway and rural roads it's great. -
Suzuki Swace - Some views as requested by GB 23 Jul 2024 (Forum)
She is on a service plan so i cannot advise on cost of the servicing. Nothing has went wrong to date in the 12,000 miles it has covered. at 2.5 years old the front tyres (Bridgestones) are on 3-3.5 mm with the rears on 5mm from gentle driving. The colour of the car is an unusual dark brown/purple metallic which is not standing up well to marks and scratches, especially at the rear hatch and bumper (dogs again!). -
Ford focus hatchback - 1.6 Petrol auto 07 - Are the CVT/DSG autos any good now??? 31 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I've heard loads of scare stories about these gearboxes but has anyone got any real data on what the failure rates (the percentage of cars fitted with those gearboxes that fail) actually are? Does anyone know which of these 'next gen' gearboxes are the best & most reliable? If i did get one of these 'next gen' autos i'd save up a bit more cash & buy the newest that i could and take out an aftermarket warranty that covered the gearbox. -
Any - BMW vs AUDI 14 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I had a bad experience of BMW when a 100K miles 3 series coupe on our fleet, shat its timing chain onto the floor 100 miles after a service. I was quite prepared to bar BMW form any future business. Audi has not covered itself in glory either, we had 2 A4 cars completely immobilised by shearing of the oil pump drive, one decorated the floor in the middle of a roadworks on the M 25. So I made an appointment to test drive a Q5, the guy called me several times to confirm it, only to call me again at 19.30 on the evening before I had planned to go in, to say he was on a training course and could I reschedule it ?
