How do "not so reliable" manufactuers make profit? 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
From most motoring forums (here, parkers etc.), anyone will probably conclude that manufacturers like Citroen, Renault, Alfa Romeo etc. usually make unreliable cars. I wonder if these companies really make bad cars! If they had such a bad reputation, shouldn't everyone ditched them and by now they should have closed their business? -
Car decisions for my niece 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
She currently has a Citroen C2. Problem, it is a 52 reg and has let her down twice on the moterway due to a dodgy alternator. That has now been fixed but due to this and a failed windscreen wiper motor (replaced under warranty IIRC), she has lost confidence in it. -
306 diesel won't rev past 3100rpm... 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently fitted a replacement engine to my 306. The new engine came from a citroen zx and has a bosch fuel pump without immobiliser, in order to get it to run all I wired in was the stop soleniod. The old engine had a lucas pump with immobiliser, don't know if any of this helps. -
Picasso HDi Cambelt Crankshaft pulley 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hello, can any one offer any advice? Last week I got the cambelt changed on my 100k miles HDI Citroen Xsara Picasso. When I picked it up, I noticed a clattering noise. Hoping it would go away (yes, I know ... ) I drove on until yesterday when the noise got really bad, the power steering packed in and a battery charge warning appeared. -
Joes done it again. 24 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Certainly think it is a vastly underrated and ignored car, especially as compared to my friends same age Golf TDi, the Citroen has less interior rattles. Certainly think is the best car yet I have bought through Joe. The Escort is immaculate inside and out. Only one small mark on the rear bumper. Drives extremely well and is perfect for what she needs. -
Family car share etiquette. 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I've just gone and done the one thing I swore I would never, ever do. Buy a car for my children. Well, the deed is done and a 1995 Citroen AX Dimension is sitting on the drive, an Ebay special bought unseen that's much better than I expected. There it is, waiting for my lucky children (brother and sister) to fire it up and deploy its mighty 35 bhp on independent journeys of their own, given that they pass their imminent Tests. -

Clio 1.2 Erratic running 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Rather vauge set of symptoms I'm afraid, just wondering if anybody's got any thoughts to common weak points. -- RichardW Is it illogical? It must be Citroen.... -
Good old days? 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Renault 6-1100 79 mph max, 34 mpg. Triumph Toledo 83 mph max, 32 mpg. Austin Maxi 1750 89 mph max, 28 mpg. Citroen GS Club 90 mph max, 26 mpg. Morris Marina 1800 TC 100 mph max, 25 mpg. I know road testers thrash the cars a bit, but these are quoted as 'typical consumption' figures. I can just about remember when 30 miles per gallon was considered economical. -

Lemon laws 13 May 2004 (Forum)
After watching brassed off britain on new cars (glad I don't have a citroen C3 :-) ) I was wondering what other people thought of having lemon laws over here ie if you new car gets returned to the dealer for the same fault 4 times without them fixing it then you are entitled to a refund or a replacement car of the same spec. -
new car advice 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Dear all I wonder if you could offer me some advice. My citroen ZX TD has 140k miles on the clock now. P reg 3 door, probably worthless in the current market. I have had it as new from a lease then bought it. Apart from bushes I haven't spent any money on repair except usual battery, cam belt (*1). -
Water, water everywhere 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My flood/fording technique was learned years ago in Knox Ford near Harrogate where you had to drive 50 yds down the river bed. I tackled it once in a Citroen Dyane, sucked some spray into the engine cooling fan which immediately filled the whole cabin with steam. It made it to the other side, though. My mates were doubled up with mirth when I arrived on dry land. -
Family car for £4000 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I am looking for a 2nd family car for approximately £4000. I have so far narrowed my selection down to: Ford Mondeo (Petrol) Citroen Xantia (Diesel) Vauxhall Vectra (Petrol or Diesel) Nissan Primera (Petrol or Diesel) I want the car to be no more than 4 years old and I am not too fussed about the mileage, so long as there is a FSH and the car is in good condition. -
Automatic versus Automated Manual 16 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone who has driven both fully auto (yaris, New micra, Fabia, Polo etc)and automated manual cars (such as Yaris MMT, Corsa Easytronic, Citroen Sensodrive, Durashift, and Smart) , please compare them? Are they any good, or is it better to go for a fully auto car. Clutch, gear changes, hill starts, etc not really wanted. Something easy to drive and not too heavy on the juice, also reliability is of importance. -
"Piston, Diaphragm, Vacuum Thingie" 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
He suggests taking them off and checking for carbonisation/damage. Anyone been up this learning curve on a similarly-equipped diesel? David W, maybe Citroen do a similar thing with quantities of rubber balls and green oil..Give me back my Viva. On the previous two occasions a dose of STP diesel treatment seems to have sorted them out, leading to my suspicion of a jammed injector. -
Car Finance - which way to go? 11 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying a new car for my GLW,(Citroen C3 Hdi 16v) I bought mine on Credit card using 0% interest and switching to a new deal every 6 months. I am not in a position to do the same for her purchase. I was considering going for a regulated HP car loan over 5 yrs which gives you the option of returning the car when it has reached 50% depreciation. -
Citroen Saxo VTR 2000 W Reg - Major electrical issue(s) 18 Jan 2012 (Forum)
So I was hoping you could all help me on here. Here goes. Back in September 2011 I purchased a Citroen Saxo 1600cc VTR. Its on a 2000 plate which means its one from the crossover year from the MK1 to the MK2 model. A recent driveshaft change has identified that the engine is a silvertop engine from an earlier MK1 saxo with a 3 plug ECU but in a MK2 body. -
Volkswagen Golf - Loss of power and engine shake missing? 29 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Seemed to be fine. Any Ideas???? The only similar experience was in a petrol Citroen that blew a jerry-rigged plug out, and shook like a wet dog! I never imagined that was the fault until I found it, since it shook so bad I was certain something had broken! Could the current VW diesel problem be missing, then further affecting runnng because of the incorrect fuel in the exhaust etc confusing the computer??? -
Lanzarote hire car 29 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I have just returned from a holiday in (or should it be on?) Lanzarote. The hire car was a 1.5 diesel Toyota Proace City, which seems to be a Citroen Berlingo with a different front end and a different steering wheel horn cover. I have to say I hated it at first, especially in its grayish beige colour. After a couple of days though I started to warm to it.
