Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 ABS wire removal 29 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1.6 petrol Focus with rear drum brakes, and in changing the brake shoes am having difficulty in removing the ABS wire. I have taken the bolt out from under the wire , but it seems reluctant to come out. What am I doing wrong? -
ABS - stupid question 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
How does an ABS system tell the difference between a panic braking scenario (ie, I've got both feet on the pedal as hard as I can with the intention of locking all four wheels), and being stationary (so no wheels turning either). Since the ABS obviously doesn't release the brakes while I'm waiting at traffic lights, how does it know that I'm not moving? -

xr2i lights/electrical problem 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Bit strange this one. When I press the brake pedal my headlights come on and when I switch my lights on my brake lights don't work? I've visually checked all the wiring in the boot and all looks ok. I guess it's a short somewhere but I'm not sure where to look. -
NA - Internal oil resistance of ""steel" brake hose? 18 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Seem to be a dissenting voice ( surely not) on a boating forum about the use of a motorcycle brake hose to replace a hard steel oil line on Yanmar 1GM and 2GM marine diesel engines. https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f54/2gm20f-oil-feed-fix-273982.html#post3957580 I think this is quite risky, because these hoses wont be built for and tested long term with hot mineral oil, but I dont actually know what the flexible core is usually made of, or how much this varies. -
Toyota C-HR 2018 Hybrid - Rear brake pads worn out faster that front ones 25 May 2021 (Forum)
Having done some research online it looks like the rear pads may wear faster due to using the hill hold function or the auto electronic parking brake. Have any of you guys faced something similar? Just a bit confused as I thought the front ones would be the first to be worn out. Also when replacing the rear pads should I get the discs done as well? -
Peugeot 2008 - Mot failures 17 Oct 2020 (Forum)

Replaced warped disc, change 500 mile old pads? 19 Jul 2019 (Forum)
So I put some pads on my car as the brakes were juddering when breaking hard and the pads that were on were worn down to the metal. Drove it about 500 miles to bed the new pads in and obviously as I hadn't slammed on the brakes during the bedding in period, it was then that I noticed they were still juddering. -
Toyta Yaris 2002 1.0 - rear brakes grinding noise 6 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Recently car started to make grinding noises in the rear when coming to a stop. Went to my local garage, they said they'd look at the brakes for me (the car passed mot with them a couple weeks before with no advisories). After checking they said they couldn't find anything wrong and that they cleaned them. Paid £40. Car still making same noises. -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 04 1.4 Handbrake efficiency 2 Sep 2017 (Forum)
My Jazz had an 'advisory' on its last MOT, the parking brake efficiency was low at 16%. Now it's never been (since new) the best parking brake I've ever had, but it does the job. MOT time has come around again and as there was some corrosion on the discs and the pads were getting ready I decided to change the discs and pads. -
pulled out in front of me, now im being prosecuted 2 Mar 2015 (Forum)
i do not know why the charge is being brought against me, is it possible that my tyres/brakes were below the legal limit and could this be classed as the above offences rather than drivng with defunct tyres and /or brakes. or is it because the driver of the other car has said that i was speeding? -
Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 01 1.8 squeak after changing gear 26 Jul 2014 (Forum)
it may be that a slower clutch return helps reduce the squeal, but I couldn't swear to it. the car has recently had a full service in which all brake pads and discs were replaced -- the brakes had been binding. could it be brakes binding again? Or does it sound like something else? cheers -
FORD FOCUS GHIA 1.8 V REG - MOT FAILURE ON PARKING BRAKE ADVICE NEEDED PLS 9 Jul 2014 (Forum)
My car has just failed its MOT on Parking Brake: efficiency below requirements, and recording little or no effort. When i asked what could cause this i was told the carwould need to be inspected at a cost of 30 quid, and could be due to a variety of causes but wouldnt specify a) what, b) minimum and maximum costs involved and c) could it simply be that the handbrake needs tightening? -
Rover 25 - slight judder from pedal when applying foot brake 3 Jul 2014 (Forum)
It feels like a slght juddering from pedal when braking. Never happens first thing in morning or later in evening. It seems to only happen when driving car l ater in the day around mid day, when it has been hotter in past week or so I had new pads fitted on front wheels 7 weeks ago and only just having this problem in the last week. -
Audi A3 8PA 2005 1.9tdi - Changing front dics and pads 16 Feb 2014 (Forum)
As discs have an outer lip it's difficult to extract pads so would normally push in caliper piston with the bleed valve open and brake hose clamped. Just worried now after looking at a VAG diagnostic meter as it stated, amongst other things:- -" Deactivates and re-activates brake control system - Retracts calipers for brake pad replacement (open and close ) - Advances calipers after servicing to the original position without affecting the current calibration - Initializes the wear indicator if new pads installed" Question is, can I change the front discs/pads without a meter or must I get this done at the garage with the proper diagnostic equipment? -
SEAT Alhambra - G201 ESP brake pressure sensor 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I am trying to make sense of an ESP light coming on. The dealer has told me it is a G201 fault code which apparently is a brake pressure sensor. They say "the warranty company" it is not covered by my JCT600 platinum warrnty (nothing seems to be). I thought it was a JCT600 warranty but they always talk about them as if they are a separate entity. -
