Astra 1.4 coolant leak 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
A 15/20 mile drive will result in about 1 pint loss of coolant, having to top up everyday. no visable evidence of leaking, checks have been made for heater matrix, radiator and pipes. Head Gasket has been metioned, but I am trying to see if it can be anything else before embarking on an expensive trip to the garage. -
Cooling system - lost coolant. Megane. 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I was noticed slight smoke coming from the engine after a long journey. When I took a look, the coolant tank was completely empty, (was checked a few weeks ago and was okay). My questions are... I've obviously lost the coolant "somewhere" - any suggestions where to look. The pipes look okay - the radiator is a sealed unit so I'm not sure how to check this is okay. -

Toyota Supra (1986 - 1993) - 87 1.0 12 valve Starlet - coolant 17 May 2002 (Forum)
I own a 1987 Toyota Starlet 1.0 12 valve. I have just noticed that the coolant level is quite low, and would appreciate some advice on a) how to top it up and b) what to top it up with!! I've not been driving long, and my mechanical abilities are not very good, so your help would be greatly appreciated! -

1.2 TSI - Seat Toledo TSi coolant leak....water pump 9 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Had cambelt changed recently but not water pump as it is on the other side of engine and is belt driven. Noticed coolant level down, warning light, and found leak was from under the plastic housing. Turns out this is a well known issue and a back order at SEAT for the parts. £180 for water pump and housing £60 labour by a former SEAT mechanic. -
Honda CRV 2.0 2003 - Honda Type 2 coolant and changing fluids 20 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Just looking into getting hold of the materials to do a 'fluids' service on my new CRV, and cannot believe the amount of discussion online about using OEM Honda coolant. Is it really that critical? I've acquired a Honda service manual and the other fluids (PAS, gearbox, diff) seem straightforward enough to change, but while I'm writing this I might as well ask if there's anything to watch out for. -

Audi 80 1995, Anti-freeze 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, Could someone advise me on the frequency of changing coolant/anti-freeze. My car is filled with the recommended G12Plus which is classed as a 'filled for life' coolant. How long is 'life'? In the past I always carried out a change every 2 years as I was concerned of the anti-rust inhibitor breaking down. -
Focus TDDI Water Loss 10 May 2005 (Forum)
I've got an 02 TDDI Focus and I've just noticed that its lost about 1/2 pint of coolant recently (probably in the last 2 months) In the previous 12 months its never lost a drop. Is it normal for these to lose a bit of coolant over time? In all my previous cars the coolant has remained at a constant level for years. -
Ford Fusion - Coolant leak 11 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Our trusty old Ford Fusion (2003 - 1.6 petrol engine) has been leaking coolant for a couple of years now, and we simply top it up every week or two with about 100 ml of coolant. The coolant drips from the bottom of the engine sump, but seems to be coming from higher up somewhere behind the AC compressor. -
vw golf mk4 gt tdi (110) - over heating issue. 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
2) heaters blowing cold air even if temperature is on 120 degree. 3) i flushed all the coolant and filled it in again, (( i heard, after you filled the coolant, close the radiator cap and let the temperature goes to 90 degree and then let it cool down. after that, open the radiator cap, the water level must go down so you filled more coolant in. right? -
VW 2.0 20V engine gulping oil coolant 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My 2003 2.0 20v (Audi branded) engine is munching oil and coolant, but there are no leaks and no sign or oil in water or water in the oil and no signs of any leaks - it's done 45K and has been serviced to the letter by VW (4 times). It's needed 4 litres of oil in the last 5,000 miles - despite using none in the first 40K and it's needed the coolant topping up a dozen times this year (and was topped up on Saturday and is already flashing up as low coolant (and has had a new radiator as a precaution (that's not leaking either from it or any joints (it's been fully pressure tested before and after)). -
Renault Megane Overheating 5 May 2006 (Forum)
About a month ago I took my '96 Megane 1.4 Paris into the local garage as it was overheating and spewing coolant out of the expansion tank. After having the car for a couple of days, they replaced the thermostat, but that didnt stop the coolant coming out of the bottle, so they replaced the expansion bottle cap, and that seemed to do the trip. -
Rover 416 1997 coolant question 30 Aug 2005 (Forum)
After driving the car the coolant level sits about one inch above the max line in the coolant expansion tank but if I sit in the car and wait for the cooling fan to cut in the coolant level is at the top of the expansion tank with no air to be seen in the tank but it drops down if I drive the car a few miles back to about one inch above the max line is this right. -

Coolant leak repair - K-seal 2 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I`d be surprised if anyone keeps the motor for long after using it,IMO I wouldnt recommend it on new cooling systems they are too small for a blockage... -
Pug 205 petrol - Oil in coolant reservoir 1 Jul 2013 (Forum)
After collecting a 1991 205 and driving it 230 miles here I found oil on the top of the coolant, maybe 2 or 3mm deep. First thought clearly head gasket, but the engine drives nicely, does not overheat, the reservoir does not pressurise and there is no mayo in the oil filler. My indie has checked it and says the HG is OK. -
Ford Galaxy - 1999 Ford Galaxy low coolant light flashing 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Has anyone else had a problem with this ? I checked the coolant level, it's ok, removed the plug from the reservoir and put it back in, and the little red light is still flashing. I think it's still safe to drive as I drove about 5 miles (within city limits) and the engine didn't go anywhere near the overheat red area. -
Peugeot 206 Petrol - Temperature of engine coolant and engine noise 20 Nov 2011 (Forum)
The coolant temperature in my car has always been around 70 -75. It suddenly moved to 90 last week on a long journey (but has not yet gone above this level). At the same time the engine started to make a noise - almost as if it was straining when in 3rd or 4th gear at speeds of over 30mph.
