Car finance agreement, advice please? 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone please advise as we are not legal or financial experts! My Dad has an Audi A4 Tdi on a three year lease agreement, which reaches the end of the lease period in 2 weeks time. At the start of the contract he was told he would have to sell the car and pay a "bubble payment" of £8725. -
Advice re shoddy workmanship 28 Jan 2006 (Forum)
these was a commotion of snaps crackles and pops from behind the dash, Sounded to me like relays switching on and off and this was occurring even with no keys in the ignition. Anyway long story short. Car booked in to an Audi garage , diagnosed as "air conditioning motor". Car sent home and re-booked in. work done snap crackles and pops seemingly gone. She goes back to work in January plugs in mobile to hands free - doesn't work. -

F: - Tell you what, you take the new one and I'll keep the old one and when I go on a long trip and want heated leather seats and cruise control, I'll borrow it. -
Insurance costs 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I Have just received my renewal for my Audi A6 2.5tdi. I am in a low risk profession, have never made a claim in umpteen years of motoring and apart from getting caught by a speed camera three years ago have led a blameless life. My reward for this is that my renewal premium has increased from £405.33 last year to £502.23 this year. -
Breakdown Mechanic killed my car 21 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I\'m sure the small print says I\'m liable for any damage these guys do, but I\'d like a second opinion from those who may have been here before! I drove my \'96 Audi A4 Tdi to fill up with diesel yesterday afternoon after running on the empty light for a little to long. As pulled up to the pump, I ran out completly! Thinking that this was pretty good timing, I filled up, paid, but couldnt start the car again. -
Bargains still to be had in EU 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Certain brands -- notably at the luxury end of the market -- actively limit price differences for their cars across the EU, it noted, citing Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Seat. You can read the full article here. http://www.eubusiness.com/afp/040302123021.hl724nx7 -
Backseats and Babies 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
If I do this, I want a good, solid reliable car, would prefer a hatch or estate, but would accept a saloon, as long as it has back doors and plenty of room. I am thinking of old shape Audi A6 (pre 97), honda accord, toyota avensis, mazda 626. Ideally with air, and full elecs. I would go for a trade in, if I got a good deal, but wouldn't be afraid of private sale and auction purchase. -
Best secondhand motor for £10k? 22 Feb 2003 (Forum)
We're off tomorrow morning at 11 to trawl the dealers. Not a *huge* amount of choice here in Guernsey but the main makes are well represented (VW/Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Mazda, Honda, Renault). Your thoughts appreciated! -
You'd banger believe it. 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
That's one happy ending for a stolen car story, and here's another - a violent London gang responsible for stealing £350,000-worth of cars were jailed yesterday for a total of 80 years. The seven youths, aged 17-20, stole 19 BMWs, Mercedes, Audis and Subarus, forcing their owners to hand over keys and carrying out 'car-jack' attacks, using guns and knifes and, in some cases, forcing their way into victims' homes to get their car keys. The Snaresbrook court heard that the gang had modelled themselves on gangsters from violent films, and had imitated scenes of car-jackings they had seen on screen. -

Golf brake failure 3 20 Mar 2002 (Forum)
VW Golf Mk 4 with a brake fluid leak from the left rear brake pipe where it joins the caliper. There were no pipes in the UK apparently even though this is a known fault with Audi A3s according to HJ. Had the car recovered when the pipe arrived at the garage because all the fluid had drained out of the system while it had been stood in the car park. The pipe was fitted on 18th Feb and I did some work on the laptop for a couple of hours in the waiting area. -
Exporting a car to New Zealand 7 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The New Zealand car market seems to be flooded with imported 2nd hand Japanese cars with dubious model names such as "Chaser", "Windom", "Regulus" and "Chariot" - (Do you know anyone that would buy a car called a "Chariot" ?! ). Anyway, I digress, the prestige (German) brands such as BMW, MB, Audi etc. seem to hold their value extremely well - i.e. A 96 BMW 528 with 70K (miles) will fetch around GBP 19K - where in the UK this car would probably only make around 11/10K and even less at auction. -

New Family Car/SUV advice 28 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Ideal features: keyless rear/360 cameras heated seats Large screen display/Nav Android auto (nice to have) Digital Dash (nice to have) Hybrid would be good Not Diesel - we only drive shorter distances Automatic lights nice interior/seats I am going round in circles on autotrader looking at: VW Tiguan or Allspace (concerns about DSG gearboxes is it?) Audi Q5 (wife choice, might have to go older for budget? Q7 too big and too dear) Lexus RX or NX (unknown to me, is the NX the same size as the 3008 or bigger, RX too dear I think). -
Bring back the Motorshow 13 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Looking through the pages of old car mags I’m finding myself reminiscing over the glamour from the Motor Shows which were common throughout the country in the 80’s and 90’s and the UK national show which died in 2008. My dad bought several cars off stand at the local car show in Ayr, the pinnacle being a new Audi 80 16v Sport in metallic grey. It was a pleasure watching as the salesman put the sold sticker on it in front of the crowd. Every major town seemed to have one back in the day and I worked the Glasgow show a few times on the flashy stand of Proton or the rather more glamorous Mitsubishi offering. -
BMW 125i convertible - Seduced by a straight-six 6 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Just too tempting....still missing my old Z3 a little....so look at Cars for Sale on this site. Given how impressive SWMBO's Audi A1 is, an A3 convertible? The 1.4 TSIs are too recent and too expensive. BMW? A 1-series is big enough, and there are some with the legendary straight-six. Not many about - and to this site's credit, only two more on Autotrader than on here. -
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe CDI250 62Reg - Pulling Left 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have had a google around and can’t even find that much chatter about it – surely if it was that common a problem, more people would be discussing it? Or is it just me? None of my previous cars (BMW, Audi, Ford) have pulled in this fashion... Any advice on here for where to go, or what to do next? What might be causing the vehicle to pull? It’s really frustrating to have a new vehicle behave this way (particularly one I was so excited about) and to not be able to get to the bottom of it. -
Merc W124 a good buy then? 1 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The loss of loyal buyers like this must be a cause for concern for a premium priced marque that apparently isnt delivering against the promise. As a diesel Audi (the poor man's mercedes) driver, 10 years old, 47 mpg and a mere 110k miles, I favour an old but good marque as a way of getting reliability, economy and a degree of prestige. I would be interested in other views on the subject. -
Peugeot 307 - Twist or stick? 9 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I have around £10k for a replacement and would consider a convertible as the kids are now old enough to climb in and out of a 2 door car but then I keep thinking, the 307 is paid for, costs £30 per year VED, £250 to insure and returns 55 mpg (brim to brim). I have looked at Audi A4 cabriolets but my £10k will get me a 5 year old car with similar mileage (1.8T). I would go for petrol as the car will only do about 4k miles per year. Any other suggestions or advice welcome? (also, apologies for the length of the post!).
