  • Mercedes Benz CLK W209 (2002 - ) - 02 3.2 False 'bulb blown' warning. 1 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi the on board diagnositcs on my CLK 320 report that a rear light bulb is blown, but when I check, all rear lights are working fine, the display says it is running on a reserve bulb, is that correct, do Mercs have back-up bulbs. can't be bothered fixing a problem that doesn't exist, it could quite happily run like this for years - all lights working but I would love to clear the error display from the dashboard Also... occasionally it tells me the rear number plate bulb is out, but again when I go and check, it isn't it is fine...
  • Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - 93 2.1TD stalls on return journey 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have a 1993 RT Turbo-D Espace (2068cc) with a frustrating problem. The car runs the first leg of a journey with out any problem but often stalls approaching traffic lights or a round-about on the return journey. The car will start again after stalling. The length of the journey does not seem to have much bearing on the problem but the length of the break in the middle does.
  • Citroen AX (1987 -1997) - 1989 1.1 RE, trouble with front brakes 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I wonder if anybody can give me some hints. Reliable old AX11 that always starts well and runs well. Has been a cheap car to run and not much has gone wrong. Recently when braking sharply the N/S front wheel seems to lock up but the car does not pull to N/S when applying the brakes. Brakes work OK it is just that they now lock up a wheel when they did not do this before.

  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 2001 1.2 Engine temp gauge moves to the right 5 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I made it home without the guage itting the red (almost) and havent driven it since. I felt the hoses while the car was running and the two that go into the car (presumably for the heater matrix? they're right next to each other and head toward the dashboard area) were very hot, but the radiator was cold. The fan is running constantly.
  • FIAT - Punto Panda 500 Doblo GP 1.3 Multijet belt check? 29 Jun 2008 (Forum)
At first glance the belt may look fine but I found the best way to check the belts inner surface for cracks was to run my fingers over the surface of the belt as it folds back over the tensioner pully. Then I drew a belt run diagram and put a socket wrench on the tensioner nut. Pulling back towards me on the wrench took the tension out and the belt just slips off.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 94 1.6i -Power loss 11 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have been suffering a severe loss of power when accellerating, & have also noticed a sound like a blowing exhaust when the revs hit 3500, but also this is the point when i started to get better accelleration, but still nothing like it should be. The engine runs very lumpy when idling, & does not start as soon as i turn the key. To add a twist to all this, i was attempting to accellerate down the slip-road of the motorway the other day, & just as i joined the carriage-way hitting 3500 revs it felt like i had just had a rocket shoved up my butt, & the thing took-off like a scalded mule, & seems to running close to normal at the moment, albeit still idling lumpy.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 04 2.2 Direct won't start 9 May 2008 (Forum)
Urgently need advice for my car. 2.2 Sri Direct.I dislocated my shoulder 2 weeks ago and cannot drive for a few weeks. My sister took my car for a run on Monday evening and parked it (facing down) on a hill.It has been there for 2 days.Tonight I tried to start it, but simply nothing. All electrics ok.No alarms on the dashboard, but there is no 'clicking' noise like a starter motor, just a 'whirring' noise.Almost as if there is a fan in the engine and no engine at all.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 2002 2.2DTi Smoking / Engine Misfire 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Started to loose power, slowing involuntarily, pulled over to the hard shoulder, loads of smoke, engine running rough, like a missfire. Switched it off check all fluid levels and engine temp... all ok! started up and idle is rough, maybe running on 3 cylinders, smoke from exhaust, put your foot on the accelerator and it struggles to pick up, really struggles, when it does pick up the miss fire clears (or so it seems) but it smokes like hell.
  • What is the point of 'official' mpg figures? 30 Jan 2008 (Forum)
According to the associated company blurb (official government fuel figures), this 7-seat behemoth returns a tad over 44 miles to the gallon on the extra-urban run. According to entries made by owners on other forums, on a 'run' they seem to average between 22 - 28 mpg? The same appears to be true of the Kia Picanto. Official figures show one particular model, the 1.1 manual, as attaining 64 mpg, but a happy owner who is also a member of the IAM records that he gets around 310 miles on mostly motorways from 27-28 litres.
  • 01 Saxo mk2, ECU warning light problem 27 Jul 2007 (Forum)

  • VW Polo Carburetor Problem 3 May 2007 (Forum)
About 2 weeks ago it had an MoT where it failed on emissions but was corrected by (I think) adjusting the carburettor. Its run fine since then though (about 150 miles). Anyone have any ideas?!?
  • Conspiracy theory! 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Alter the lights to cause conjestion, give people a bit of time to get well fed up with it, then pilot a wonderfull scheme to solve the problem (that didn't exist a few month ago). Or am I just letting my imagination run away with me?
  • daewoo matiz EZ+ 15 Dec 2006 (Forum)
In addition, the engine management warning light is on constantly, even when it's running well. Just about every sensor has been replaced or substituted, including the ECU. The injectors have been changed, as has the inlet manifold and the engine wiring harness. Sticking valves have been suggested and ruled out.

  • VW Golf Mk3 VR6 - Head Gasket? 8 Oct 2006 (Forum)
It turns out to be a corroded wire to the MAF (air flow sensor). Green flag do a temporary repair and the car now works fine. Would the above stalling / poor running cause the 'mayonaise' or is it likely to be the HG? I had a recon engine block fitted about 1 year ago, so I assume the HG would have been changed then.
  • Economy/MAF Sensor - 1.9 TDI Seat Toledo 25 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Only remembered he'd left the locking wheel nut key in behind the cover when I asked him where it was! I have checked them after a run and all the discs burnt my fingers by the same amount. :^D SO I don't think it's that. Any other thoughts?
  • Jogger vs Car :( 4 May 2006 (Forum)
So, at the weekend I went on one of my regular runs. Left the house and ran up the pavement with the road on my left. Good line of sight to an approaching bend. A Mercedes CLK soft top (roof up) overtakes me and pulls over to 'my side' of the road.

  • Buying at Auction 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
(Examples on www.smag.co.uk ) I have read HJ's advices on the subject, I would see me doing dry runs for a few weeks to get a feel of the process and prices. Will prices be low in Dec in run up to Xmas or are the auction prices not affected by this time of year? I am thinking of maybe a Laguna, Focus, 307 etc.
