  • Mondeo - £4K family car 8 May 2010 (Forum)
My head says a Mondeo but i want to treat myself and the car won't be relied on for commuting so day to day running is not an issue. I am tempted by an '01 BMW 525, an '02 Jag x-type or an '01 Audi A4 for the same money. I am aware of the pro's and cons of the models as they stand but my  very specific question is, out of these 3, which is the best (and which is the worst) for parts and servicing prices, bearing in mind i will be fully comp as far as any bodywork parts are concerned.
  • Failing to keep agreement 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hiya, I bought a BMW 3 series last year. Because of the many problems the car came with, the dealer offered me a 'free next service.' I got this in writing as well. However, that particular dealer is out of business but one of their other franchises is still up and running.
  • Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - unlimited extras but no choice of drivers seat 9 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Other than in BMW/Mercedes, orthopedic seats at a swinging price. Plus i am firmly convinced that too many car designers are now designing cars for WOMEN with short legs therefore a short seat squab. which leaves a goodly portion of my legs unsupported plus why is Volvo about the only manufacturer to recognise that the seat squab need to be tiltable, fore & aft as well as height adjustable Me I still got a good old fashioned big bottomed businessmans seat out of an old Vauxhall Carlton, this bolt into an old 4wd. but man it's still a quare proper comfy seat Grrrr
  • Cars motoring press have got most right/wrong 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The ones I 'm curious about are: Focus mk1, mk2 - best balance of ride and handling, good diesels (agree) BMW 3 series/5 series - best balance of ride, handling and performance, good diesels (agree) Golf mk5 - best overall hatchback (disagree), good diesels (disagree) Maserati quattroporte - M5 rival (disagree) Skoda Octavia - build quality and value (agree) Mercedes - diesels highly rated but some posts mention about poor build and injector problems Focus ST - over-rated?

  • FIAT Ducato Sevel X250 (2007 - ) - Reverse judder 25 Apr 2009 (Forum)
From the postings this sounds like a major problem affecting many, many vehicles, yet I have not heard a word of it before, is it a case of commercial vehicles having a very low public awareness? If this was a problem affecting the Mini, or a flash BMW, I suspect it would get a mention on Top Gear, or even the main News on TV, but who fights for the commercial boys? • Thoughts on DRLs (Day Running Lights) 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I've read threads about use of sidelights in poor visibility, which I think DRL's address quite nicely, though there fitment to my car was purely incidental. I noticed Fiat 500's, and many Volvo's & BMW's, and of course all those Audi led ones. Mind a lot of the Beemers seem to drive with lights on in daytime. I think they just like to pose with those "angel eyes" lights.
  • Which convertible ? 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
ok its time to change the mini convertible, the boot is driving us mad. too small. we have had two bmw converts, they are nice, but just dont want another. we (me and swmbo) love the saab, around a 06 or 07 plate black aero 2.0 or 1.8 t i saw on here the worrying thing about the bulkhead cracking ! so my Q is should we look at the audi (just dosent do it for me- I dont know why?)
  • Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 05 2.0 Engine temperature gauge 28 Feb 2009 (Forum)
    He seems to think that it's no big deal because the car runs fine and the manual says only that it should rise to "about the middle of the gauge". I'm not so sure. I remember that my mother's old BMW did the same thing when it had problems with the cylinder linings. Are there any other Accord owners who can tell me if they've noticed the same thing? {typo in header corrected}
  • Sleeping with engine running 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I pulled into the motorway services about 7:30am today with the idea of grabbing some sleep. I picked a quiet spot away from the buildings. Within a few minutes a new BMW X5 parked alongside with the same idea. Surprisingly he just laid back with his diesel still running & fell asleep. I can understand the need to keep an engine running in the Artic but not on the outskirts of Birmingham when the weather is mild.
  • Nissan 200SX (1994 - 2001) - 97 2.0 Not revving 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
This is a bit of a strange one and I don't know if anyone will even be interested, but here goes! I have fitted a s14 200sx engine and gear box into an e30 bmw, in the nissan everything ran fine, I have put everything in the bm including the full wiring harnes. When I start the car with the afm disconnected it will rev fine up to 2500 where it seems to hit a rev limiter, as soon as I reconnect the the afm it struggles to idle and won't rev at all.
  • Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - ) - 2.2 Diesel Tiptronic - Any tales of woe? 7 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking for a nearly new 4x4 diesel automatic, and am finding that there are few cars that fit the bill (or my pocket). Short-listed are the Land Cruiser Prado 3.0D (2007/8), or, if I can find one in my budget, a BMW X3 (2006/7). Other than a Hyundai/Kia, the only other vehicle that fits the brief seems to be a Freelander 2. I've always assumed the Freelander to be generally unreliable? Is it worthy of a look?
  • So who WAS driving 14 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I thought the same of the bloke who claimed exactly the same thing some weeks ago. People will remember him 'cos he could drive his BMW more safely at warp factor 3 than I can drive at 30mph. He said it was all true What happened, mate? And what happened to the bloke who was going to court because neither he nor his wife could remember who was driving when they were flashed in her father's car and were both too principled to take the hit?
  • Motor Show 2008 exhibitors 20 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Reviewing the list of exhibitors on the official site, there appear to be a few notable absences. For example: BMW (they had a large outdoor stand in 2006, but I believe had previously not got involved at the NEC). VAG Volvo Does anyone know whether the website is simply out of date, or are the above genuine 'no shows'?
  • Compactest 6-seater out there? 21 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi there, We've been wishing to be able to seat 6 people (or more) in our car recently, and while 5 can sit in any car from a VW Polo to a BMW X5 (to different degrees of comfort admittedly, so let's say for short distances) it seems like for 6 or more people one needs to get a full-fledged van. What are the most 'compact' six-seaters (or more) you know of?
  • recommend me a diesel estate 18 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The budget suggest a highish mileage ex fleet car with FSH etc I probably prefer a prestige make Audi Saab Volvo BMW etc rather than the Ford Vauxhall offerings but not ruling anything out. Reliability performace and handling are key. No smaller than and A4/ Octavia size. Thanks

  • FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - The new one. 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Will doubtless be highly profitable for Fiat given its low cost base (Panda platform and Polish labour) but I think its downfall in this country will surely be the dealers? The MINIs success is largely down to the skill of BMW dealers who are on a different planet from your average Fiat dealer.
  • MINI Cooper R50 (2001 - 2007) - Xenon headlight issue and replacing run flat tyres 9 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hi. Recently bought a mini, but having some problems. One of my xenon headlights doesn't always work. BMW have put in new bulbs, a new control unit and are now saying I need a whole new headlight. I've already spent nearly £300 and they now want another £300. Any suggestions on what else it could be as I think they're just guessing.
  • Classic insurance NCB 4 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Ive had a E30 BMW 320 on classic insurance with Carole Nash for 3 years, and just got my renewal and it didnt show any NCB, when i rung they said you dont get NCB with a classic insurance, which i didnt know, so i have had 3 years motoring without any NCB I was thinking of getting a newer car next year, but looks like i wont be able too prove how many years NCB i have, because i read somewhere that NCB expires after 2 years.
