Peugeot 306 1.6 Automatic Yr 2000 - Problems starting 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I was in a hurry so I asked my neighbour to give me a jump start, exactly the same WAHH WU as before, after half an hour of trying to jump start the car using another car and another set of jump leads exactly the same. The battery is 6 months old but still I have checked it and am getting good readings from it. People telling me it is the starter motor or altenator. As the car does turn the engine over a fraction I do not believe it is the starter motor nor the altenator. -
Mobiles 15 Mar 2016 (Forum)
It's said that the bank's computer uses software to recognise faces even though the owner has subsequently grown a beard. I can imagine that will go down like a lead balloon with the lady BRs. Smartphones have a GPS feature whereby the network can trace your whereabouts. There is an 'app' that the bank uses to trace your mobile to ensure that and the credit card are together when you make a payment with the card. -
ford focus estate tdci - plug in tuning boxes 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The fact this device is supposed to boost BHP from 115 to @135 isn't as important to me as the fact that this box should lead to a better running more economical car. Albeit, more "go", i would view as a bonus. Im aware of the insurance impilcations, im honest, so will inform them should i go ahead and purchase one. The device which caught my eye is a german ML electronics unit advertised on the net for around £60 inc postage, it looks a simple affair to install (which i wont be doing myself), just two wires to clip into the common rail pipe. -
Nissan Almera - Almera Gearbox 18 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The Nissan gear box oil needs changing as the viscosity is worn down over miles of driving and will eventually wear out the gearbox bearings. This leads to failure of the gearbox. If the oil is changed every 50 - 70k the manuakl gear box will be smooth with syncro gear changing and will last 200 k or more. -
Is the BMW N47 engine prone to timing chain failure? 3 Oct 2013 (Ask HJ)
I am looking at buying a high mileage 2010 BMW 320d touring E91 with N47 engine. Is this a good car to buy? I’m a bit concerned as the internet seems to... -
Ford Ka - Brake performance 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Am I chasing a firm pedal which is not achievable? Is it the twist in the tube leading to the master cylinder ? or have read that the servo push rod can be adjusted ? Sorry for long post - Mike -
Ford Focus LX - Ford Focus stuttering... 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
He guessed that the dealer had left the car to stand for a long time with the plug socket access tubes full of water before I bought it, and it had begun to corrode the plugs. He showed me the old leads and they were well watermarked. He said that another Focus he had once worked on had the plugs seized in so tight because of a similar problem that the spanner stripped the plug nut and they had to remove the cylinder head to get it/them out. -
Any advice on car insurance undercharging me 29 Nov 2012 (Forum)
When I called back to find out what was happening they said they had added £64 to my premium as it was undercalculated due to me not telling them about this accident. They said failure to pay would lead to cancellation of my insurance. Now, I'm not sure how they didn't have this information as I sent them my no claims proof letter from last insurance company and I clearly am not withholding information as I called up to ask why this was saying 5 years when my accident with 2008. -
Vauxhall Corsa B - Low Compression + Running Terrible 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Checked throttle position sensor using Opcom and all seems well there Last summer I serviced it... fuel, oil, air filters, spark plugs, new oil & brake pads Changed HT leads So I ran an compression test the other day and got the following results in bar: 1 -> 5.9 2 -> 6.1 3 -> 6.2 4 -> 6.0 According to the manual the compression ratio is 10.0:1 so seemigly you multiply by 1.38 to get your ideal compression ratio which would be 13.8? -
Bedford Rascal hesitant acceleration 5 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I haven't changed the fuel filter yet though, and I haven't touched the carb at all nor the coil or HT leads. I re-timed the engine to 8 deg BTDC, the dwell angle is fine, both the mechanical advance and the vacuum advance seem to be operating correctly, the mixture and idle have been adjusted and the CO2 emissions seem fine. -
Citroen Xsara - Parking Charge Notice 3 Jul 2012 (Forum)
If your payment remains unpaid after that date, I will register the debt plus all costs incurred in the recovery with the Northampton County Court. Should a judgment in Court be made agaisnt you in this matter, it may lead to detrimental information being registered against your name and address with UK credit references services. I am very upset by these letters and I am worried I will be atken to Court especially Northampton as I would not be able to attend (too far). -
Ford Fiesta - '01 Ford Fiesta - does this sound right? 11 May 2012 (Forum)
After rushing to pick up my car before they shut up shop for the day, I was greeted by the manager who informed me that my car would not start. They took me through and showed me the car with jump leads hooked up to the battery - there was no response when they turned the key. I was astonished - the car has never ever failed to start, and they even admitted to me they were just as mystified, as they got it off the ramp fine and it had been started several times during the day. -
high hire car charges. 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
They gave me a hire car which is equivalent to my car being repaired (4drs, saloon, etc). The repair took 49days, mostly due to more damages found, which lead to waiting for verification from insurance company and parts import from Japan. Cut the story short. It has taken over 2 years and the 3 rd party company have made an offer. They are willing to pay for the damage repair, compensations, expenses and “some” of the hire car charges. -
Mazda6 - Claimfast - any satisfied customers out there 5 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Basically, what Claimfast want me to do is enter into a credit hire agreement with their preferred hirer, Enterprise, to hire a similar car to my own, for up to three months, but it seems to me that, as my name will be on the consumer credit agreement, if things went wrong, I should ultimately be responsible for the hire charge, which, I am lead to believe, could be considerably more than the spot rate. My current insurance does not include a replacement vehicle, and I am mindful of my common law duty to mitigate the TPI’s losses. -
Rover 214si Manual petrol 16 valve 1997 R reg - Rover 214si cuts out after long hill descents 4 Nov 2011 (Forum)
The car runs *perfectly* the rest of the time, it's a 16 mile journey to work, it's fine on the way there, but on the hill on the way back it does it at the bottom of this particular dual carriageway 50mpg limit hill without fail usually So far fitted new throttle body, new plugs and leads and a coil pack .Thanks -
BMW 320td - Taking finance company to court 13 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The DEKRA report states that the flap had failed suddenly and unpredictably and could not have been broken at time of purchase. It should be noted the finance company's instruction to the engineer was fairly leading and it was obvious what they wanted the outcome to be. I have corresponded with several BMW 'experts' that have suggested that the flaps can fail due to debris build up over a period of time (that is they can work loose etc), The report also suggests BMW have acknowledged this issue with improvements to the design although I have correspondence from them saying this is not the case. -
Volkswagen Passat TDi - VW Passat Head Change problem 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I took it to another independent VW specialist who told me it was the coolant temperature sensor, charged me £50 and gave it me back with the same fault! This morning I received a Vag Com lead and was having a nose about, just following some things off the net, and there were no fault codes listed but I discovered the cam timing is running at -4.4 and if what I have read is correct it should be between 0.0 and 0.5. -
Volvo XC90 - Volvo XC90 SE: Is it too tempting at the new price 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have been pondering over which 4X4 to buy with the top 3 picks being Nissan X Trail Tekna, Honda CRV ES and Volvo XC90 SE Till date Nissan and Honda have been leading the race as I wanted the price to be under 30K, though wife has been pushing hard to pick a 7 seater which takes Nissan and Honda out of the race I have received today a compelling ( i would think) offer for a new Volvo XC90 SE. -
Mazda MX5 (1998-2005) - 00 1.8 Intermittent misfire problem 16 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Then, a bit later, after the engine has warmed up (but not as soon as it's warm) the problem clears itself and it runs normally. It first misfired in May and I was told it needed new HT leads (which I had done straight away), plus the plugs were cleaned and checked. It behaved itself after that until a few weeks ago when this intermittent misfiring problem started again. There are no warning lights on the dashboard when it has this problem. -
Hit by uninsured driver 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I've rejected that offer, but would appreciate some advice about the best way forward with all this. A perusal of a leading car sales website showed 25 1.2 Aveos that were less than 12 months old. the average price was £6,800. Recovering uninsured losses appears to be a non-starter. The uninsured driver has no resources, and would probably return to his home country if sued.
