Terms and conditions of Skoda?s 3 year u 25 Sep 2002 (Forum)
As I cover 50,000mls a year, I chose to buy a Skoda Octavia on the basis that it had a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty and have Skoda literature to that effect. I was at the local Skoda dealer to have a 50,000mls service and told them there is difficulty in engaging 1st gear (this has been highlighted since its 20,000mls service). -
nottingam sacks all traffic cops 22 Nov 2001 (Forum)
" As far as road safety goes, speed cameras will be pretty much it and that is unacceptable. Speeding covers a narrow band of people, generally those in cars. We need to pay more attention to buses and lorries as well, which also cause accidents." Even the most generous estimates reckon speed causes no more than a third of all accidents. -
1985 Capri 2.8i 25 Feb 2001 (Forum)
It has been sitting on axle blocks in my dry garage for several years. It was originally my company car and I loved it so much that I bought it for personal use, but that didn't work out as expected because I then suffered severely from a back problem and it was agony getting in and out of that low-slung Recaro seat. -
Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 2006 2.0 turbo petrol - Bad situation please help 22 Jul 2009 (Forum)
They then also claimed that the works will cost me apx £4000 as I need a complete new engine. The car is 3 years and 3 months old so according to GM I am out of warranty, the car has only covered about 38,000 miles. Even though I am technically out of warranty I believe a car should last more than 38,000 miles. -
Plug in hybrid ‘real world economy’ 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Reading a roadtest in Car Magazine I was struck by the huge differences in the economy achieved on test between three very similar cars. Those were the new Ford Kuga, the Peugeot 3008 and the Volvo XC40. The cars all covered the same route at about the same pace yet the test mpg varied wildly from the Peugeot’s disappointing 34.1 to the Ford’s exceptional 97.5(!) -
Hyundai i20 1.2 Petrol Classic 2012 - i20 Electric Power Steering - USB Audio Fault? 25 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Following crash repair for mostly cosmetic damage which included the front passenger wheel, wing & bumper cover etc.; the electric power steering & possibly also the brakes have felt different on different days and at different times. Also, engine now has more frequent misfires. Sometimes there now is a smell of oil probably from the exhaust, sometimes with whiff of petrol after parking the car. -
All rental vehicles - Car hire company toll fee scams 23 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Having reted a car at Stanted 5 Oct 2015 I crossed the Dartford bridge at 1800 unaware of the new toll procedure. The rental company has emailed me to-day advisng they have taken £105 from my UK bank a/c to pay the charge. -
Focus Focus 2000 1.8 TDCi - Diesel engine is rough - mechanic cant isolate why 25 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Mechanic has had the car for over week now and so far has checked (1) engine oil for signs of steel bits (2) done engine oil flush/detergent/flush again (3) removed rocker cover to see if any sign of oil in the top end (4) removed the cam shaft to see the condition there and to test the theory that a cam follower was not working (5) removed the injectors and had them professionally tested. -
Registration dates and values 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Much to my surprise the dealer now thinks this good, and not to wait a few days for 1st March and a number with an 8 in it. I guess sales targets are the dealers issue as the extra 1 week tax would be covered by them at no cost to me (I have this in writing). Pro's of this, the above, and the fact I don't have to renew the tax on the trade in. Dealer does not seem willing to let me walk off with the tax disc which although I'd only drive the old car a dozen miles on the 1st, the act of signing the V5c, the no tax and or SORN would probably make me an easy nick for Swansea. -
Why overtake? 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
In slower bits I overtook to the outside as you would on a motorbike. When riding with the traffic flow I kept a couple of car lengths back from the car in front to allow for braking or other avoiding action. So WHY ON EARTH did I find that in those 4 miles, 5 cars overtook me into this miniscule space only to immediately cut back across me and brake hard to avoid running into the car in front of us? -
Peugeot 308 SW - Big Boot for Two Dogs? 6 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, First time poster, apologies if I miss anything that may be mentioned on the forum rules. I'm looking to get a used car and would appreciate your advice. My partner and I have recently rescued a second dog and our little DS3 is getting far too cramped. We have a rear bench dog seat cover that wraps around the passenger and driver seat head rests which works well but that doesn't change the fact the DS is a small car. -
Auris - Non-fault accident, excess, no motor legal 18 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I wasn’t comfortable signing a credit agreement to go with a non-fault service, and also I needed my car fixed at a dealer garage to maintain the warranty which wasn’t possible with them (I’ve had it 2 months ), so I went though my own insurance company. So, I’m having to pay my excess... £400 is a lot of money. -
Honda FR-V 3+3 MPV - Automatic Wipers - sensitivity adjustment? 6 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Many thanks, "Archie" ps - the other niggle, in case anyone is wondering, is that the traffic announcements on the radio very rarely kick in, whereas in other cars, at the same time of day (on the M25 in the rushhour) the announcements never stop. Should Honda also be able to fix this? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1997 1.8 Heater blower motor - a/c fitted 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I will post a new thread for each problem so people with knowledge of the particular issue will spot the topic and hopefully offer some relevant advice! According to the MoT history the car covered 8,000 miles last year but only 300 miles the year before. Total mileage is 81,000, the condition of the car supports this. Firstly, the heater blower motor. This runs v-e-r-y slowly when I first start the engine, with a faint "poorly electric motor" noise. -
Honda - New honda jazz 1.2 vtec vs Honda jazz 1.4dsi 5 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I am in two minds about trading my current car, maybe think of trading it in for the facelifted 05 models onwards or wait for the hybrid jazz. wish honda introduced a 1.5 vtec engine for it, or a diesel like the current 2.2. dtec, maybe they just chop it and put a 1.6 lump in it. -
MG MGF (1995 - 2002) - 97 1.8 VVC Can't Select Gears 31 May 2009 (Forum)
hi, my sisters rang last week to say she lost the ability to change gear on the motorway. the car has since been recovered i looked at it and found the clutch release arm to be seized i understand this is fairly common and this week have had the gearbox off and replaced it, i left the clutch as it appeared ok and has only covered 50k. now ive reassembled it all she still can't select gear with the engine running. the new release arm moves freely. ive had the slave cylinder apart and there are no signs of leaking there, although it only has 1 seal and the mg parts catalogue appears to show 2. -
2002 Polo 9N sporadic starting problems 18 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Perhaps someone can shed some light on this sporadic starting problem with a 2002 Volkswagen Polo 1.4 SE (petrol), BBY engine code, manual box. The car is driven by a pensioner with a corresponding short shopping trip/low annual mileage driving profile. In total, the car has only covered about 5,000 miles since new (1 owner). Here?s the problem: Occasionally when you turn the ignition key, the instrument panel warning lights illuminate as normal but nothing else happens. -
Fiat Uno and LRP 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Would pinking be really noticeable and cause further probs? The last thing she needs is the expense of having to get a "new" car - she is getting on a bit (!) and for the mileage she does would not be warranted, while at the same time the loss of her car would be hard felt. Lugging shopping on and off buses wopuld not do her much good at her age. -
Ideal vehicle for 200k miles in a year? 24 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The customer has tried conventional overnight parcel services with unsatisfactory results, and would prefer to pay a premium for a 100% reliable service. We are looking to source a brand new vehicle for the job, either a small van or a car, as the cradle could be mounted in either. The main things we are looking for are economy, range, reliability and driver comfort. Depreciation isn't a major concern as the vehicle will be covering 800 miles a day, ie 200,000 miles in a year, so we know how little it will be worth at the end of it. -
Front end shunt: cheap repairs? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I've just been involved in a shunt. I drove into the back of another car, going at 35 mph through some roadworks. The other party braked suddenly when they saw a police car with flashing lights waiting to emerge from a side road. My fault, driving too close. Damage to other party (newish Peugeot 306) was dented boot.
