  • Buying car for export 5 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Lastly, could you recommend any car insurance company with good deals for temporary insurance I need one just for a couple of days to get the car to my destination country but so far by checking online quotes i will need 700-800 pound to insure a car for just a month which /pardon me here/ just seems wrong to me, I have a full EU issues driving license with clear history and I've been holding it for almost 7 years now. What options do I have when it comes to insurance ? P.S The car I want to buy is a really cheap Peugeot 407 2.0 Hdi manufactured in 2008 if that matters - I will just drive it back to my home country and probably send it for scrap or sell it for parts since we drive in the opposite side of the road back home...

  • Hyundai Tucson 1.6 GDi Blue Drive SE Nav 5dr 2WD - Choice between 18 reg (10 miles) & 67(9.5k miles) 29 May 2018 (Forum)
I had decided to go for a  Hyundai Tucson (petrol 1.6 GDi Blue Drive SE Nav 5dr 2WD ) with a 67 reg plate and 9.5k miles on the clock from Mortorpoint. It's an ex-rental (Enterprise), costing £16,000. I have paid £300 deposit, but this is refundable and I couldn’t even see the car when I visited.
  • Driving in environmental zones in Germany 27 Feb 2018 (Forum)
On 24 March 2017, I read an HJ Back Room post about driving in environmental zones in France, which touched on such zones in other EU countries. I have done some research on driving in environmental zones in Germany (DE), which may be of help to readers, particularly in maintaining  their bank balance.
  • Vauxhall Astra left hand drive 2004 - Vauhall Astra wont accelerate and then gears stuck 10 Jul 2017 (Forum)
For the last say 2 months it goes really slow when you accelerate at certain times (no defined pattern) but often at say a roundabout when pulling away or when switching lanes on motorway, it lasts about 45 seconds on a roundabout but on straight driving about 3 seconds so it will mantain speed at say 60 miles an hour but wont go any faster than that, then it speeds up suddenely.  Then last night the gears kept sticking and wouldnt be moved, we had to keep driving as there was no hard shoulder and no where safe to stop.
  • Mazda 5 - Driving written off car 6 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I'm planning to keep the car and get it repaired myself but I am not sure if I am allowed to drive it. My insurance company are saying that they will keep the policy in place providing I do repair the vehicle within the next few weeks but I will need to send them an MOT certificate after it has been repaired.
  • Audi A3 - Driver with insurance in uninsured car in accident 7 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I do not want to incur more grief to the third party, therefore had texted him about the situation and asked him to have his insurer contacting me so as to work out a financial plan. However, my concern is will this ended in a court case against me driving without insurance. The penalty could be severe and I could be banned from driving. This could have me lose my job because my work requires me to be able to drive. Without that, I cannot feed my family or pay the third party.
  • Toyota Yaris - Speeding Section 172 27 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I received 2 NIP's for speeding offences committed on the same day,May 31st,recorded by the same camera on the Cheshire/Derbyshire border. The first I knew of this was a reminder I received about 5 weeks after the offences,I hadn't actually received any initial notification.I wrote to Cheshire Constabulary to explain this and was then sent the NIP's allegedly sent to me originally. As my husband and daughter,as well as myself had been driving the car in the area on the day in question,I wrote again to ask that the photographic evidence be sent to me.These photos duly arrived but show only the number plates,it is clearly not possible to identify the driver from them.We were on a bird-watching outing that day so were constantly stopping the car and getting out to look at birds,so the 3 of us would each be driving at different times, almost randomly.I wrote again to explain that there were 3 possible drivers at the time of each of the offences, and last week both my husband and daughter received letters but they are as unsure as myself as to who was driving at the times in question.Obviously there is photographic evidence that offences have been committed, but who should accept culpability?
  • Drink Driving Situation????? 10 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Refused A Urine Sample!! Will I Be Band??????? Hi well I was arrested by police that did not see me driving my vehicle but have 3 witness saying I did. I was not in possession of the keys on time of arrest. I failed to give a road side breath as I refused and said I wasn't not driving. Later at the station I agreed to a breath test on the machine but the machine was not working, so the officer then took me into a room with a doctor and said you are to give blood or urine sample so I said I will have a urine sample because I do not like needles as I suffer from anxiety of needles and it is on my medical records that I do and have been proscribed beater blocks for anxiety attacks in the past.
  • Saab 9-5 1.9 TDi Vector Diesel Estate - New Car 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It would be nice if it didn't have a boot lip to make it easier putting things in (and the dogs to get in) I don't really think Diesel is suitable for him anymore as his regular driving is barely 10 miles a day (divided over a weeks worth of driving) and the I'm concerned the current car is not that far away from having some major service costs due to very short journeys as its recently eaten a couple of batteries due to literately driving to the shops 1mile away and back again.
  • Mazda 6 TS2 2.0d (2008) - Release bearing/Gearbox issues 28 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Test drove the car and love it, but it was making a fairly harsh sqealing noise throughout the drive. Car has been sat on a forecourt for a while, so I figured nothing serious (lubrication issues or maybe the cambelt needed tightening) but asked them to sort it and I'd re-test drive it before I confirmed anything.
  • Shared ownership of car - advice sought 29 Aug 2011 (Forum)
This Relative is in her forties, a lone parent with several children.  She is starting  driving lessons shortly and then hopes to pass her driving test later this year.  I gather that her Friend  has been driving for a number of years.  Also, it is implied that this friend is in a similar social and financial situation as aforementioned relative  - churches overun by mice spring to mind; no pott o .....no, I won't go there.
  • Volvo 240/260 - car just dead, driving smooth, then lambda sond on 8 Nov 2010 (Forum)
But driving around sometimes the car just stops! Then the lambda sond turns on and after a couple of minutes being dead, we can start the car again: it runs smooth again but we never know when it will happen again ...... after one hour, a day, a couple of days or even a week?
  • Astra 02 1.6 sxi - Only tick over and drive in LIMP HOME mode. 24 Oct 2010 (Forum)
If, thanks to my EGR valve, I have to crank the starter for nearly 10 secs before it'll start and the 'Car with the spanner' comes on it'll tick over, and drive very nicely indeed! If however the engine starts instantly on the first turn of the starter the engine idles smoothly for 5 or 6 seconds before it dies. Repeating this even if I restart unless I rev continuously and it drives with lack of power which comes and goes in waves.
  • Kia Rio 1.5 Diesel - Is this a fuel leak?? (Kia Rio) 29 Aug 2010 (Forum)
On Fri night I filled it to the brim, I put so much in I could see the fuel at the top of fuel pipe.  I then drove home and parked it on my drive, which it at a slight angle so that the front of the car is higher than the rear. On Sat it had leaked fuel onto the drive, it looked like it came from a pipe near the rear axel, a pipe covered with this foam sleeve.
  • Choosing a four wheel drive 4x4 - for school runs 28 May 2010 (Forum)
Although prestige would be gained by being able to show that it could be afforded to keep them down. Talk along the school drive would be along the lines of `Mine`s a 32 nutter` - meaning nuts per wheel - maybe. Anyway, it was a nice fantasy - although I fell asleep on the sofa again at some point so am not sure if it would work.
  • Mazda RX8 (2003 - ) - When is a new car not a new car? 8 May 2009 (Forum)
Due to problems with the gearbox\clutch, yesterday I ended up going back to the dealership to have a mechanic carry out a test drive. During the drive he let it slip that my car was in fact their showroom car, later to be their demonstrator (the one I had test driven). This was further confirmed by another staff member. Now, to me that means that the car wasn't new, despite having only 70 miles on the clock (it was explained away as being driven up from a local(ish) compound).
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.25 Loosing power 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It does that for a while and then goes back to normal. But it only happens on high rpm and only in 5th gear or, I should say, when driving around 70+ mph. I mean, if I would drive on high revs in 2nd or 3rd gear, this problem would not occur. Meanwhile, when coming off from the motorway, the car is very jerky on low speeds as well (that's after driving it on the motorway).
  • What would you buy? 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I would like Bluetooth or equivalent built in; Comfortable ride and excellent driving position, with easy access; All these are easy. The next is harder...... I am the senior partner in a firm of long established Chartered Surveyors. Most of my work is valuing smaller properties for banks, but in a large minority of cases I am valuing property for litigation matters where the clients are paying directly for my services and I suppose need to see that their chosen professional is good enough that they charge enough to drive a decent car.
  • Hit & Run going to Court 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Quick thinking Y also claimed injury once the police arrived. X questioned an hour later by police. Accused of drink driving, hit and run, failing to report an accident. Cleared of the drink driving down the station. X answered bail today. Told that there will be a preliminary hearing at a magistrate's court. What does that involve?
