Speedo broken/poor performance/h. gasket 20 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Also he thinks he is getting poor economy; what are the main causes on a diesel? His right foot is heavy but not made of lead. Finally I was a passenger in said Mondeo the other day when my friend\'s friend\'s (!) Punto blew its head gasket. He drives like a fool, stereotypical boy racer. He blasts it from cold and uses cheap oil. -
Prang-how to convince insurers? 7 Feb 2003 (Forum)
As I say, the distance I travelled and the time elapsed between me starting my manoeuvre and the distance he travelled before he hit me does lead me to think that it must be his fault for driving into a stationary car. Am I horribly deluded? O -
Renault Turbo Trouble - plse help! 7 Dec 2002 (Forum)
When the head was done, the hoses were checked and they are ok. I have new plugs, rota arm and cap and the leads seem to be newish and do not outwardly show signs of trouble. I may replace these and see but I feel that I am not getting to the root of the problem. There is no oil leak nto the distrib either which these cars can do. -
Ducati left on the grid 21 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Petrol was on the plugs which proved that fuel was getting there and the spark plugs gave a spark (although it wasn’t the big fat one I see on cars) when connected to the leads and spinning the motor over. No joy but knowing nothing about motor bikes called at the motor bike centre and asked their advice. The man said it would be the petrol which would be useless. I explained that it had been topped up and he said this makes no difference as the old remaining would kill off the new. -
POINTS PANIC!! 5 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I am now facing the possibility of losing my license (well, returning to provisional) after getting caught by a police radar doing 46 on a straight, quiet and seemingly hazardless stretch leading away from a roundabout on the A5025, Anglesey. The car was facing the oncoming traffic and was under the full sun, so was barely recognisable as a police car. There were no signs warning of Police Speed Checks. -
Golf mk3 cuts out after going through puddles 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
It'll stand forever under torrential rain, and still start first time every time, but you drive over any kind of deepish puddle, and within seconds, it'll just fade away. Leave it half an hour, and it's dried out enough to start again. It's not the leads (replaced) or dist. cap as far as I (or the garage) can tell. I thought perhaps a short in the fuel pump (happened to my Dad's Audi once), but the pump is mounted on top of the tank, and I can't see how it could get wet. -
This is getting serious: £28K serious 13 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Company changing to salary increase, milage allowance and 'pick your own'.She wishes to out do the boss and take a 'you only pass here once' attitude. My limited (and she knows it) knowledge leads me only to say 'go for the top of the range VW Golf' and pocket the difference. No chance. A company contact through leasing firm they use has led to high spec SLK 230 2 seater one year old priced as above. -
How can anyone defend Mr Hart? 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
2) Despite the other contributing circumstances such as the inadequate length of crash barrier the bottom line is if he had got some sleep the night before ten people would still be alive today. 3) Even with all the evidence leading to one conclusion he continued to protest his innocence rather than face up to what he had done, something the judge may well take into account when considering his sentence. I have no sympathy for this man, and I think he should be given a sentence to deter anyone else taking the same risk he did in future. -
Night Motorway Driving 18 Nov 2001 (Forum)
By leaving a whole lane on either side, their margins for any small error are increased. This mentality really disturbs me and I feel that lower concentration levels lead to a lower standard of driving and the possibility of falling asleep. But this may well not be the case. If anyone has any views on the matter, especially if someone is brave enough to admit to sitting in the middle lane, I would be genuinely interested to read them. -

Fiesta 1.25 Zetec oil pressure.... 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I am not averse to taking out a fuse eg, but do I run into further problems with petrol contamination of catalyst? or loss of ECU settings which can be even less desirable? The plug leads are not immediately accessible in the dark! PS For info - Alarm on same car. Having had intermittent alarm problems I finally traced problem to iffy contact on bonnet switch when closed. The fault could be replicated off car by fully closing (making contact) and wobbling plunger which then showed as only very occasional high resistance. -
