  • Credit hire issue 7 Feb 2011 (Forum)
    4) The first letter they sent me just after the accident (which I still have) states that I had free of charge indemnity insurance in the event they are unable to claim the money back from the 3rd party insurers. Will this cover me in the event of (1) or (2)? The whole thing has been a complete nightmare. The guy hit me side on coming off dual carriageway onto roundabout and is claiming that he was ALREADY on the roundabout and that I lost control of my car causing collision with his van.
  • Displaying the VED disc 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
As I passed a spy van yesterday, the word "tax" appeared in its otherwise covered back window. My car is properly taxed, and I can only think that the camera picked up on the old tax disc still displayed on the windscreen alongside the new disc on the dashboard (fully visible from outside).
  • Audi TDi Engine Blow Up 6 Oct 2002 (Forum)
First thought is cambelt and having had it changed at 120,000 miles by Audi is confident they will put it right. Car was recovered from the motorway to an independant garage who removed belt cover to find it intact with no apparent stripping of teeth, he did observe some fraying of the belt though. Car then recovered to Audi dealer who had changed cambelt for further inspection.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV (2005 - 2009) - Car leasing 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The car was collected and the man who collected it commented on its pristine condition.
  • Scudo Van Comfort 1.6 Multijet - Warranty - major fault - Sale of Goods Act 1979 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The bill was in the end just under £2500 to get the car up and running again. DAF told me that they never had such a fault, certainly not for a car of under 4 years of age and at 17000 miles (I drive the car normally twice a week for about 70 miles with little stop-and-go and only light private domestic use).
  • Mazda 3 - Car sold with no service history. Advice/Feedback 21 Jun 2017 (Forum)
In addition the istop stopped working, and the dash section that shows you current gear and suggested gear also stopped working. I booked the car into Mazda (as advised by Stoneacre since it was under warranty), but when i took the car to Mazda I was told that I may not be covered for the work, as there was no service history with the car so the warranty could be invalid.
  • Will need a 'station car' car soon... 15 Mar 2017 (Forum)
So anything similar would be ruled out. I am thinking petrol Mondeo/Maz 6, but what about some 90s cars, Rover 600 ?? Pug 406 ? I guess my main issue is setting a budget. Clearly I could buy a new Dacia Logan MCV (for example) and that would do the job, and I'd still have c.£3k to cover running costs.
  • Mobilo experience 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
After hitching car via tow-hook & using wooden blocks under the rear wheels to 'slip' the car backwards, it was loaded by about... 14:25pm Then taken to the dealership. Meanwhile, Mobilo rang a national car rental firm to arrange a replacement car., who then rang me to confirm status/driving licence details & get CC number.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate - Brain Pick 10 Jan 2022 (Forum)
It gets used as a works van, family transport, and as a platform for our mountain biking addiction. Its more or less constantly covered in mud from accessing remote biking locations, and the back seats are fairly permanently folded down to accomodate my work kit. Bike racks permanently on the roof. Don't want muddy mountain bikes in the car.
  • Any - CVT experience 15 May 2019 (Forum)
We have done several 3-4 hour drives in the past fortnight and you can cover greater distances in that time than at home on our overcrowded roads.
  • Worn brakes on car just bought 22 Apr 2007 (Forum)
My daughter and her husband bought a 53 plate Citroen Picasso from a very large car supermarket, which has a dodgy reputation. By the completion of the deal she wanted to punch the finance man who took over from the salesman. Unfortunately, while I was in another part of the place looking after the kids for them, they agreed to buy the car, a 1.6 petrol Citroen Picasso on a 53 plate, with 30k miles.
  • Blown Turbo - Opinions please 3 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Have racked up another 30,000 since, car does not loose oil or behave any way strangely. Any obvious things I should be keeping an eye on as I don't intend to change this motor for a good few years yet. Leon
  • Ford Mondeo Mk3 2.2TDCi - New EGR Valve fitted but glow plug light still lit 15 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Having fitted a blanking plate, I decided to leave it out when I removed the offending valve and cleaned it. Tried to start the car, however the car refused to start. It would sound like the engine was catching and immediately die. Having had this problem before and knowing that these symptoms could be related to the EGR I re-fitted the blanking plate and except for some smoke on acceleration the car behaved fine, and performance was what I expected.
  • Alfa Romeo - Issues with getting refund from garage? 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
They've sent me photos of my old clutch while it was still attached to the car and there are no signs of any oil on it. The car could have been fixed by putting a new master cylinder on and the clutch change was unnecessary.... Please - any advice very welcome! Many thanks
  • Crazy driving instructor 8 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Half a mile further on set of lights on red. Two lanes on approach, both for straight ahead. Inside lane has two HGVs, a number of cars, the learner then me. Outside lane has three cars. After the lights the double lanes end very quickly ? just enough time for one or two cars to get in front of an HGV. Instructor advises learner to go in to outside lane.
  • The Saddest car selling story yet....? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Well, we've all been there. You place an advert for a car in the local free ads ie Loot, Ad Trader, Admart etc or hwatever covers your area and you wait... If you're lucky they'll remember to put the ad in. If you're a bit more lucky you'll get a phone call.
  • Seller sold faulty car 25 May 2020 (Forum)
Hello, I don't know if I am posting this in the right place, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. Recently my dad purchased a ford focus that was advertised without stating the condition of the car. It just stated some specs, and that the car needed selling fast. So my dad arranged a viewing and I went with him. I stayed in my car while my dad went on a test drive. My dad drove around the block, and heard a noise when he was driving and the guy told him that the car was fine except that the front left wheel bearing needed fixing.
  • Smart Roadster (2002 - 2006) - Recently purchased car has persistent fault 27 Mar 2014 (Forum)
About 6 weeks ago, my wife purchased a Smart Roadster from a well known car supermarket, which provides a 30 day warranty. Along with this we purchased a 5 star warranty from a well known breakdown organisation. All bases covered, I thought. Two weeks ago, and the car demonstrated a fault, 2 days outside the 30 day warranty.
  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - Poor Service from Honda Dealer 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Because I had taken the car to Honda for this precise service, and the fact that the car was in a fully working condition before I gave it to them, I hold the dealer responsible for the damage to the engine. However, they are accepting no responsibility for it and it is not covered under the insurance as it counts as a mechanical failure.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - First Time Company Car 24 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi, first post - hoping a few of you folks can share your experience and a little advice with me! I'm considering a job where there's a company car as part of the package. An opt-out isn't on the table (yet) so I'm trying to understand the financial implications properly so I can go back and negotitate properly. Car being offered is a Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 SRI (150) Diesel Estate, and the offer states they would cover all the running expenses of the car for business mileage, and I would be responsible for your personal mileage.
