Interior, a nice place to be? 6 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I then looked around me at the light pleasant shades, the pleasing lines of the furnishings in the Laguna, and then thought about the huge slabs of poo coloured plastic in the new golf, or the slabs of dark black plastic in the Touran, and I thought that 33 days in there would have me slitting my throat. I have to admit that 33 days in the Audi A6 i sat in in the motor show (all light sexy and tactile) would be like a vacation. So my musing of the day is, Did you realise how long you spend in your car, and what makes it bearable for you. -
Running costs 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have recently bought from a fleet a Audi A4 TDI Quattro Tpitronic. Leafing through the paperwork I am able to tell exactly what work the car has had done to it over its lifetime (since 9/99, 130,000 miles) and how much it has cost. Dealer Servicing and repairs have cost £5200. -
What car for 6 grand? 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Bought for 3 grand, cost almost that much to keep it on the road in the first 12 months Jeep Grand Cherokee. 4.0 version expensive to run, possibly in my price range for monthly costings, was surprised to see so many sub £6000 in Autotrader So any thoughts/suggestions? Would love something fast and/or luxurious with leather/air con etc like the Jeep or a BMW/Audi to soften the blow of selling my beloved chipped S3 thanks! -
DIY Bentley 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The boot lid is from a Ford Focus, glass roof from a Merc, headlights from a Range Rover, Mazda MX5 petrol cap, leather seats from a Volvo S60, door mirrors from an Audi TT, spoilers from an MG Maestro. The paint was designed for Metros. Andy, 40, bought the rusty shell of an 1983 Bentley Mulsanne for £3,000 and fitted it out with scrap parts worth £12,000. And after 900 hours of work over seven months, he has dubbed his mad motor the Mentley Insanne! -
Overheating A6 5 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Would really appreciate some help for my 1999 Audi A6 1.8T: I had the car serviced by a main dealer recently, three days later a strange noise developed & I took it back to the dealer who diagnosed the noise comming from a bearing on the shaft of the water pump. -

Selfish (and dangerous) parking 11 Mar 2003 (Forum)
There was plenty of space further away from this junction and I parked about a two minute walk from the playground. But even at this time, there was a very supercilious looking woman in a silver Audi estate parked on the double yellows, making it very hazardous for everyone else trying to turn left around her! She just couldn't be bothered to walk an extra 75 yards at the most. Ooooh I could crush a grape! -
Can I have my money back please? 28 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I bought an Audi A4 in June 2001 from a local independant dealer (who has a good reputation). The car has electronic climate control and the a/c blew icy cold air when I test drove it. About a week after I picked it up the air was no longer being refrigerated. -
Audi Q2 - a year and a bit 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Semi-retirement is busier than working: I've been meaning to do a running report on the Q2 ever since it was a year old towards the end of April. ... -
used buying advice? 5 series, Lexus NX or others? 25 Jun 2025 (Forum)
I’ve considered E Class but the left footrest is impeded somewhat for my big feet, and a Lexus ES which unfortunately hits my head at 6’4. A6 is Audi and from what I gather are probably as unreliable as Jags. Appreciate any opinion if those 2 are a good choice, or perhaps any I have missed that have the reliable yet ‘name recognition’ aspect. -
2020Skoda Kodiaq SE drive, 1.5 TSI ACT - Skoda Kodiaq unidentifiable noise 28 Nov 2024 (Forum)
The noise is still occurring. They then drove the car to another reputable VW/Audi dealer who checked everything and still could not find a serious fault. Skoda do say there are various "noises" to be expected in a Kodiaq and the car is safe to drive. It actually runs superbly! -
Open to suggestions - New family vehicle 2 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I have approximately 9k to spend on a car (I could stretch maybe to 11k, but no more than that). I currently have a 3.0tdi Quattro Audi A5 2007. I have loved the car but it’s getting on a bit and we are extending our family. We will have two 10 year olds and a baby and we will be looking to travel in the new car if we go on any trips away (we are both teachers so we will try to make use of the holidays). -
Buying advice. 19 Jan 2024 (Forum)
A BMW 1 series was a car I was craving but having read a load on here, I guess it needs to stay a dream, my 2nd choice was an Audi A3 but my budget is probably too small for a good condition car so I think a Mazda 3 is probably a good choice? I ready like the shape and the interior of the Mazda, again read on here a Focus is probably the smarter choice but I don’t like the look of that car, As much as I have tried making myself like it. -
Jap imports 8 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I buy and sell cars and have done for years but have found some good deals for cars in Japan I want to import, mostly these will be German brands, BMW/Audi/MB/VW I have done some homework and asked around and I am fairly confident with the procedure/registration and tax side of things. The only concerns/questions remaining is regarding the cars themselves, does anyone know if theres any reason why it would be a bad idea to import these, I know years ago it was hard to insure due to the different build quality, but from my research the German cars beside the instrument measurements which can easily be changed, the cars are virtually the same but tend to be in way better condition, most of the cars I deal with are up to 4 years old so nothing old. -
Do your research - Electric cars 5 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Just had an interesting weekend with a couple of old friends, one of whom has a shiny new Audi Q4 E-tron. He normally charges at home or at work, so when we met up in Aberystwyth he knew he had to get a charge before he left to his next destination. Off to Tesco to get a charge at the 7kW PodPoint, while they did some shopping. -
mazda 6 or something else - What used car to buy under £12k 18 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Appreciate its quite a list and open to suggestions as none of the above standing out and I don't claim to be knowledgeable about cars. I looked at BMW, jag and audi... but told repair costs can be painful and I clock up the miles Live in Sussex and looked at a few cars but thinking private purchase as been burnt by used car dealers in the past, including the current car which developed a number of expensive faults not long after purchase. -
Car suitable for taller driver 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
My current car is a Toyota Yaris which is limited on comfort as I drive with a small pillow for lumbar support. These cars are what I like at present: 2015 Mazda 3 2.0 Petrol Sport-Nav 2014 Audi A3 1.4 TSI Sport (Sportback) 2015 Seat Leon 1.4 TFSI FR Tech I do like the Honda CRZ but not sure on fit and comfortableness. My wife’s car is a Honda CRV Auto so wouldn’t mind an auto as long as it’s reliable and good enough for my commute. -
Gearing - how it has changed over time 2 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Modest sized hatchbacks had top gear at around 15/16mph per 1000rpm in top and even 2 litre cars and above from various makes including Mercedes and BMW were geared around 19-20 tops. Must have made so many cars very noisey at motorway speeds. The report on the Audi 100 in 1982 had what’s was seen as insanely high gearing at 27.9 per 1000rpm. Last night for comparison I tried cruising along at 60 in 4th then 5th and then 6th in my Honda CRZ and looked at the Rev counter to realise that the original CRX in the 80s would have had a top gear ratio equivalent to less than 4th in my current car. -
Any - Smeary Windscreens - Lets Make Em History 6 Oct 2017 (Forum)
We have 2 cars, a newish Ford Focus and a 3 year old A4. Both cars are well cared for but even though only the Audi does a lot of motorway miles, both have perenially smeary windscreens. I have tried everything I know to cure this as follows :- Thorughly cleaning screen with pressure washer detergent or special extra strong glass cleaner, then rubbing the widscreen dry with screwed up newspaper or kitchen roll. -
Best small car for rear legroom with tall driver 30 Aug 2017 (Forum)
A golf 1.4 petrol would have been ideal if it had only had a few more cm space rear legroom, we don't need boot space for second car. Also looked at the next door Audi garage, the A3 was even tighter in the back. Due to wife's company car allowance scheme, we kind of have to go with a new car or nearly new through main dealer route.
