Oil changing - myths and urban legends 8 May 2005 (Forum)
Locate the Sump Plug, do this using an Inspection Lamp with a 100W bulb - do not, under any circumstances, use a bulb of lower wattage or the splash cover under the engine will melt and pieces will be sucked up into the MAF and then immediate engine failure will occur. 4. Undo Sump Plug whilst humming 'Oil Be Home For Xmas' - do NOT sing any other song or the Radio will never tune into any local stations again and the aerial will need to be replaced at the next service. 5. Allow Oil to drain into a Tupperware Perspex Jug - use only perspex as other plastics react with the old oil and particles travel back through the draining oil and attack the Big-End Bearings. 6. -
news from the states 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
"The pictures are the same, everything else is different," said Kronk, who first told the story to Chris Core of WMAL radio in Washington, D.C. The first violation notification claimed Kronk ran a red light at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and North Lynn in Arlington on Aug. 24. The second notice said he ran a light at the corner of Jefferson Davis Highway and 27th Street in northern Virginia on the same day - but showed the same photo. -
Vauxhall Zafira A - How long can an average petrol car run for? 24 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The only one slight issue we do have is that if I initially leave the car on with the radio running for about 10-15 minutes and then turn the vehicle on I find that the power steering doesn't work for about 10 minutes. It's not really a big problem - someone told me that as it's electric power steering it's possibly the battery, but we've had the battery checked so many times and each time it comes back fine, the battery is still the original battery though, but it does also have a green light on the battery that also shows up fine too. -
Ford Focus Saloon - Ford Focus TDCI 55 Plate Rain/Electrical issue? 15 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The next morning it started fine so I hoped all was well. 50 miles later in the rain after parking up for about 5 minutes the same thing happened. got a jump start and went home, about 5 minutes of driving and I hear the relays clicking like mad, power steering goes, no lights, no radio display, nothing. Car stalls and we coast into a layby. Again the battery is ready 4.7ish volts, slightly erracitcally so I guess the battery is naff. I figure that if there is a drain on the battery it should show a slightly higher reading when the positive lead is disconnected so I take that lead off and test the battery. 12.7 volts, perfectly full battery, that's not right.... -
Skoda Yeti - Skoda Yeti - my thoughts on 10K miles / 1 year 1 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I then had the Bolero (radio) flashed by the main dealer in order to address the "slow SD card read" issue - this made a huge difference. The overall average mpg was in the low 30's (70% Urban / 30% Mway). The best MPG was just over 40 mpg and the worst well into the 20's. -
Citroen Saxo VTR 2000 W Reg - Major electrical issue(s) 18 Jan 2012 (Forum)
AND the indicators didn't work either. Until the 20 minute mark when everything worked. All this time the headlights, radio and wipers seemed unaffected. The washer bottle motor even worked after the pipes had thawed out. The electric windows didn't work either from memory too. So I guess I want some advice really on how to go about fixing this below is what I have already done to try and remedy the issue: Replaced the battery and checked the connections are tight on the battery.(2 week ago) Tapped the top of the relays with a spanner to loosen any sticking relays (September) Done the column fix, joined the two brown cables using a crimped link. -
New Car shopping around the world 5 Apr 2002 (Forum)
What is wrong with using your real name and perhaps even a line or two of where your home is when you sign your missives to this list... I thought that sort of handle stuff went out with CB radios ~R -
Warning for Rattle: how to do it, how not to do it 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The white paint was bloomed and there were a couple of small rust spots but the body was intact and sound. The tyres were all balding and exhaust leaked into the car. The radio did not work. But new plugs, plug leads and distributor cap confirmed a recent tune and all the main running gear seemed fine. I said I would buy it if Herb would sort out the exhaust and radio. -
Private Cash for Public Roads 23 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Labour leader Ed Miliband: "People are struggling to make ends meet" Alasdair Reisner, from the Civil Engineering Contractors' Association, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that one option was a system of "shadow tolls", whereby the motorist does not pay the cost but private firms are paid by the government depending on the amount of traffic using a road. -
Volkswagen Passat - Consumer Advice Req - 2 Breakdowns in 10 weeks 31 Jan 2011 (Forum)
5) The battery going flat after 6 days, is that just indicative of a battery at the end of it's life, or could there be a wider issue which is related to the injectors failing? When I bought the car I had to contact VW to get the radio unlock code, which indicates that it's been flat before. Finally 6) Nationwide Autocare have quoted £500 per injector. Reconditioned injectors can be had for a lot less than that. -
Car Supermarkets, £8k Midlands 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Sadly, the flat battery coupled with the Megane rep for unreliability meant I walked away since the salesman showed little interest in actually getting it started for me to check the other electrics (radio, mirrors, wipers etc). But I did think this was the bargain of the day, even though I've not driven - can't be that diff from Clio I imagine. Not a fan of keycards with buttons though - I argue a key is a smaller less obtrusive thing to have in your pocket and the insertion place is difficult to see, though accept were it keyless it would make sense. -
Got pulled. 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Bang to rights, I know it and they know I know it. Only the driver speaks to me while the other one does the honors on the radio to confirm what I have said is true. (Hadn't realised that they can also check your insurance is valid as well as your bike). Driver says "because you were doing over 100 I have no choice other than prosecution". -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2002 GT TDI 130 - first impressions. 18 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The big, clear instruments have an expensive look to them, and the lovely violet and red glow of their illumination is soothing and easy on the eye. The standard fit "Gamma" radio / cassette with separate CD player is still present, sounds good, and is fairly easy to use. The driving position is excellent, too. Being a later mkIV (2003 model year), the car benefits from some upgrades over earlier models. -
2008 Motorshow- Good Bad and Ugly 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Away from the car stands, the Honda show was well worth the money, with some amazing driving/ riding- although the hosts seemed to be local radio wannabes- and "to dream the impossible dream" was sung/ played ad nauseum. Dont know whose stand it was, but there was a track where punters could be taken out in westfields power sliding and doing doughnuts, which was good to watch. -
BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 520d SE - 12,000m report 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Pedals are offset to the right like the Mercedes making left foot braking less comfortable and the windscreen wipers are left hand drive configeration which is annoying, as you get an unswept area in the top right hand corner of the screen. The radio is a pain to tune until you figure it out. And I don't know how to return immediately back to the previous station after you receive a TP traffic alert. The starting sequence (START button on, foot on brake, press button) seems a gimmick but you get used to it, and the steering wheel even lifts when you go to get out the car. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 04 Tourer diesel at 100k miles 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Stereo - marvelous sound quality and you can run it very loud. Would miss this in a lower spec model. Could do with the traffic news memory you get in the VW radios. H&V - generally good but the not up to the standard of VW - has the habit of steaming up after 400 yards on a cold morning unless it is running on auto. Claims to use the air conditioning system to heat cold air when on Auto and outside temp is lower than 5 - I have felt this working occasionally but with the heated seats was not a big issue to me. -
see if I care..... 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Upholstery is OK but I will get it redone (my local guy does repair work for the BMW dealer so he\'ll do a good job). There\'s a hole where the original radio/8-track used to be. I talked to the Mustang Owners\' Club and these seem to be as scarce as rocking horse droppings. Pity, some Doors/Hendrix w.h.y would set the whole thing off nicely. Engine is sound as a nut. -
The unethical & deplorable actions of 2 companies 20 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Has anything said by YY or XX been true, or just further perjury being committed? The admission of YY that liability should be accepted, followed by the radio silence leads me to believe that something untoward is going on – are they happy to facilitate the fraud being committed by XX? I raise the question – under oath – would XX stand up and state everything that has been said from the outset has been true? -
Toyota Prius not rubbish to drive shock! 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Being designed for the US market there are more annoying chimes and alarms than in a Tamagotchi factory and more idiot proof functions than any other car I can remember driving (e.g. it bleeps like a 40 ton truck when reversing and some radio functions are disabled when the car is moving). It also sometimes makes odd noises when the petrol engine engages and disengages itself, the amount of servo assistance to the steering changes for no apparent reason and the shape affects visibility and makes it a nightmare to park. -
Letter from the Colonies 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
If you rent one there\'s nowhere to put it when you\'re not using it. If you do find somewhere you think is OK, Dracula\'s daughter clad in black and laden down with radios and barcode scanners materialises from nowhere -- usually an ethic minority with the accompanying chip on the shoulder and proceeds to deliver a lecture. The words \"sir\" and \"please\" and \"can I suggest...\" do not appear to figure in this apparition\'s vocabulary.
