Old Jag fixed by AA 7 Apr 2001 (Forum)
He said it's common on small cars. He had previously tested all electrical circuits. Last time I called the AA was an Audi 100 which conked out on the motorway. He diagnosed a faulty fuel pump relay, took the relay to bits by the side of the road and soldered a bad connection. It was a permanent repair. I think the blokes who work for the AA are brilliant. -
Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170PS DSG - a review 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The car comes with a top up of Mobile EPS oil - their latest fully synthetic oil which is suitable for VAG cars requiring 507 grade oil. The oil cap still says ?Audi recommend Castrol Oils? though! As a result of this change you no longer get a Castrol case for the oil which sticks to the boot side using Velcro (I should have kept the one form the old car!), I? -
Mike Rutherfords Champions 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
We're barely into 2007, but the Audi R8 already looks set to become the supercar of the year... and, possibly, the decade. RIP Porsche and the 911. Every dog has its day. Even those with the right pedigree. Mike Rutherford is a freelance writer, broadcaster and pro-car activist. -
Which car to buy: Help me decide. 3 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Also what value will the car hold if I were to sell it after 3 to 5 years considering it is well maintained, no accidents, full service histroy etc. BMWs vs Audis: Finally, why do people spend 10 to 12K and buy a Ford, VW etc when they can buy a good BMW 3 series or an Audi A4 ? I thought this was purely due to high maintenance costs such as the cost to replace a rearview mirror or a break pedal would be significantly cheaper for a Honda when compared to a BMW ? -

Good & Bad on Honest John car reviews – who posts? 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Under the car reviews there is a 'Good & Bad' link near the top, see this example: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/audi/tt-coupe-2006/ When you click said link you have 'What's Good' and 'What to watch out for'. Some cars, many BMW's and Mercedes for example, have page upon page of 'What to watch out for' with red 'X's' all over the place, warning. -
Can anyone Help? - A very cheap car to give/or free. 19 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I have some neighbours who are struggling financially.. They were given (it turns out) loaned an Audi a4 estate about 15 months ago after their previous car had dpf/oil pump/clutch probems and they live on a very very tight budget. One neighbour let them use his car for a while, but now they need basic transport. -
Small Car - Big Person 27 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Clocking up over 20k pa in an A4 Allroad, I had the bright idea of saving some money and buying a second small car for the daily commute (3 x 40 minute journeys per day), and keeping the Audi for long journeys/snow and ice (I live in rural Aberdeenshire) thus saving on running costs and prolonging its life before replacement (currently approx 85k on the clock). So looking for small/medium car (manual if possible) In theory price is not important except that the point of this is to save a bit of money so the overall cost/mile is the most significant factor (within limits). -
Return to C-segment saloons? 19 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Many markets have always viewed hatchbacks with suspicion, with the classic 3-box saloon - of any size - seen as more secure (laptop in the boot), stable (less "flexing" of the body) and "prestigious" (An A3 saloon that looks just like an A4!) Are these notions returning to British car buyers' minds once again? Mercedes, Audi and Honda seem to think so! -
BMW 3 Series - Car buying advice - is a second hand BMW too risky 31 Jul 2017 (Forum)
General consensus and opinion on the web is to stay away from second hand premium cars such as BMW and Audi. Would it be that bad in terms of reliability and servicing to buy this car? Why shouldn't I buy it? I'm not just buying for the badge but also great handling, quality of materials, performance and looks of course. -
Used car advice - Budget 5K 30 Dec 2016 (Forum)
So far I had seen Skoda Octavia, Mondeo, Insignia..They all have done over 70K miles and atleast 5 years old for the budget I am looking at also Audi A3 most of them over 90K miles and 8 years old. Is it advisable buying cars over 80k miles? I want something reliable and decently equipped. Please advice on any other cars other than what I have listed and also trusted dealers in London, I am not confident choosing one as my knowledge with cars isn't that great! -
Jaguar XF - BMW 5 series 2011 Manual or Jaguar XF 2011 20 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I had a BMW 3 series (2000 reg) earlier which I replaced couple of years back for an Audi A4 2010 model. I rented 3 series 2016 manual model few months back and I loved driving it. I'm looking at upgrading my car (an executive saloon is my choice) - I always love the looks of Jaguar XF (2011+) but in terms of driving pleasure, I would opt for BMW manual. -
BMW 3 Series Coupe - Lease/Company Car - 3 year lease too long? 17 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Having had lease cars through my company for years I had always been very pleased, including in recent years a Seat Leon (2006) and Audi A3 (2008). I then moved away from hatchbacks to a BMW 320d coupe. It was a fantastic car for the first two years, but by this point my firm had moved to three year contracts, and in the last year it felt like everything went wrong with it. -
Taxis in Brussels 11 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Just back from a short weekend break in Brussels. I was struck by the number of high end Mercs, Audis and Skoda that are used as taxis and driven by maniacs on a death mission around the narrow cobblestoned streets of Brussels. What puzzles me is that all the taxis I saw are common rail diesels yet Brussels ,like all big cities, is frequently in gridlock and these vehicles are not made for stop start, short trip journeys.
