  • Supermarket petrol - any difference? 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
After reading the papers and seeing interviews on the TV about the fire at the Buncefield fuel depot, it was said that tankers from Tesco, BP and Total were all lined up for filling along side each other to fill up from the same fuel line. This suggests to me that the petrol quality from supermarkets is the same as those from major suppliers, as they seem to get the fuel from exactly the same source.
  • Fuel economy figures 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This question has been nagging me for a while. When the official fuel consumption figures are determined, I assume that they are done 'under laboratory conditions'. I further assume that they are carried indoors, on a rolling road. Does this mean that the aerodynamic differences between cars counts for nothing, and that is why two different cars will get different figures in the real world, despite having similar offical figures?
  • Customs casts net wider for fuel smuggle 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Interesting article on how Customs are tackling fuel smugglers who are removing the red dye from diesel. (Today's Daily Telegraph). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2005/09/08/cnfuel8.xml Sounds as if you could do far more harm to your engine than the money that might be saved. -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to add to the thread.

  • government company car milleage rates 8 Jul 2005 (Forum)
The new advisory rates for company vehicle has just been revised to take into account higher fuel prices see here: www.hmrc.gov.uk/cars/fuel_company_cars.htm (sorry cannot seem to do a link to web site). however they have decided that the fuel rate for 2000cc is increased from previous rates given, but less than 2000cc the rate will remain the same.reason given is to reflect increase in fuel economy since 2001 of these smaller engined vehicles.Well does any one agree with this statement?
  • Isn't it about time for a fuel strike? 27 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Ok so did anyone else notice the news on Saturday - 4th news item behind the Pope's funeral, the royal wedding and Rover's demise was that little matter that petrol prices are now the highest they've ever been.... We had the UK fuel crisis when prices were about 10p a litre below what they are now??!! Isn't it time we all went on strike and abandoned our cars and stayed at home all day? Go on the weather's turned nice.... Rich
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel Running Problems 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
When you have to go up hill it loses all power and really struggles - as soon as you start to go back down the hill - all is fine again. I'm thinking the pickup to from the fuel tank might have become blocked as the car had been standing a while before I had it. The car has a lucas fuel system with what appears to be the Bosch fuel filter.
  • Peugeot 106 Diesel Leak 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1994 106 Key West 1.4D (stop laughing) that i use just for running to and from work. It seems to be leaking fuel from the pump somewhere. If I get stuck in traffic for any length of time I get smoke from the engine block where the fuel has leaked or been splashed onto it. I have checked the fuel lines, they seem ok but I can't pinpoint the source of the leak.

  • Devils advocate, fuel cell cars 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
When we eventually all drive around with a fuel cell, what are the risks of explosion? Hydrogen is I remember from a botched chemistry experiment very very explosive. When all is working ok and all we have is a trickle of water out the exhaust, what will be the effects on an icy road.

  • Fuel Efficient Estate 8 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Reading through reviews I  know there are a lot of options and some of the more favourable reviews seem to lean towards a Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia, BMW 3 Series Efficient Dynamics, VW Passat GTE or Seat Leon ST.   As stated, my main objective is to make it as fuel efficient a journey as possible as I'm currently running a 1L Ecoboost Fiesta which is costing me around £80-£100 a week on fuel depending on what other journeys happen during the week.  In the perfect world I would also enjoy something that is still slightly fun to drive but I realise this will have an effect on the fuel economy.

  • Fuel Card? Worth it!? 17 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Plus lets say you do 5000 business miles again at 50 mpg costs you £500 approx, BUT you claim back the 5000 business miles at 45p to get a cash back of £2250, making a grand total of -£750 VS. take a fuel card, and pay the BIK tax which is going to cost around £1800, making you over £1000 worse off?   (Or do you still need to log mileage if you take a fuel card)
  • FIAT SCUDO 1600 PETROL INJ (1997) - JERKY / ERRATIC ACCELLERATION 24 May 2014 (Forum)
In that when ever I start to accellerate it “Jerks” qite badly at times however once the vehicle gets up to a reasonable speed and I increase the speed slowly there is not a problem and the vehicle runs very smoothly. I have replaced the Air filter / fuel filter / plugs and the plug leads to no avail. I also had a diagnostic check done but it was not conclusive. I was told that it seemed there was a conflict between the Lamdar sensor and the fuel injection information to the computer and at low revs too much fuel was being injected and therefore the computer stopped the fuel flow!!!!
