Motorway behaviour... 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It doesn't try to hold me up, it doesn't try to get me out of the way, it jjust seems to accept me. All together a much more peaceful drive to work. I know the easy thing to do is to say that I drive differently depending on which car I'm in, but I'm damn sure that I don't. I drive netiher faster nor slower, nor in one lane more than another. -
Stupid Barriers At Uni 23 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The problem here is that the back entrance is 5 miles away by driving out of the main entrance and then taking the main road. So I drive in the back way and there are 2 more barriers on this side saying to use the front entrance but that didn\'t matter as I found a space. -
Test drive accident 14 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, nearing the end of the drive which I took with my father, whilst we were just about decidng the car was good enough to buy, cruising happily (and overtaking on a slight bend)at 70mph when (this is the bits I remember) the car swerved in towards the car I was overtaking, then swerved the other way and the rest is a blur! -
Update - new Yaris & the Learner Driver 5 Nov 2003 (Forum)
So far, so good - but I suppose now the nerves will really start (I mean mine!) .............. Oh and, once she has a bit more experience of driving on her own, we plan to get her some lessons just on the motorway - Passplus doesn't seem so necessary as she has already done bad weather, town centre, rural and driving in the dark as part of her ordinary driving instruction - and having got the insurance sorted, there is no financial gain to be had atm. -
BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 - X1 vs GLA vs Q3 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I read really some great reviews about this engine on other sites. So I went for a test drive and simply loved it. It drives way better than the above two. The way the steering feels and responds is brilliant. It totally took the effort out of driving, especially when combined with the S-Tronic gearbox! -
Audi A3 - Driving Another Car, Uninsured, Possible Penalties 13 Nov 2012 (Forum)
So, as I am unable to be without a car for work, I went and bought a second car which would allow me to drive it while my car was in the garage getting fixed for over a week. It also meant once I got my car back from the garage, she could use the new car. I had the guy selling the car to me drive to my house to drop off the new car with his brother. -
Zurich to Berne 5 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Anyone have any tips/experiences on driving from Zurich to Berne/Biel..? -
Audi S5 - Chirping Audi S5 4 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Replaced clutch fork and clutch ball with newer revisions due to seeing an Audi Technical Service Bulletin (2022990/3) on clicking / creaking clutch. Talked to Audi who thought it could be the clutch drive plate that bolts to the crankshaft. Ordered new clutch drive plate and installed. Same scenario. Fine when cold, then as it warms up after about 10 mins, same noise. Last attempt I had was to replace the crankshaft rotor pickup wheel that sits between the crankshaft and the clutch drive plate so ordered a new one of those. -
Insurance cancelled 14 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Someone who gets caught drink driving or driving dangerous etc. only have to admit their offence for 5 years but I forever have to answer yes? Is this correct? Do I still have to answer yes to this after all this time? I’m not sure who to get a definitive answer from, any help gratefully received. -
Renault Laguna - Dont know who was driving. 13 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The problem is my 1 month old baby was in hospital with breating problems and as we have 2 other small children we used to be back and forth from the hospital numerous times a day to take it in turns looking after baby. This was done in my car, I would arrive and my wife would drive it away 5-10 mins later with out children still inside. Therefore I genuinely have no idea who was driving. -
Safety conscious? Riding vs driving 1 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I do a lot of miles in a year and never would have considered myself a careless driver - in fact, I try to remind myself to be aware of my driving style, my position in the road, hazard perception etc. I do my best to keep safety uppermost in my driving behaviour and be conscious of how I'm "managing" the car. Since starting to ride, I have come to realise just how removed from the driving environment the car makes me. -
Modern Small Cars 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My current car is actually a fun drive, is smaller out the outside, bigger on the inside than any of the current cars. The performance of my car doesn't seem too bad after driving some of the other cars either. Has anybody else found modern small cars to be boring? -
Small earthquake in Chile: no casualties 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I was lucky enough to be going on a date last night; on the way there I made a diversion to a Chinese Take-Away for later collection on the way back. Driving down the road to the Take-Away, in the back of my mind, I was considering the best time to ask for the Chinese meal to be ready for. This banality was rudely interrupted by the sight of a car driving fast towards me: on MY side of the road. -
Not your usual dilemma! 12 Nov 2004 (Forum)
And that would be to get rid of both the Porsche and the Peugeot and get a much newer "proper" sports car with decent driving involvement, mod cons and that I can drive all year round. (I will still have a Porsche to drive because my other half has got one, and he also has a Passatt estate so we have a practical car too!) -
self-driving cars on motorways - Insurers don't like 23 Oct 2020 (Forum)
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/oct/23/uk-insurers-warn-against-go-ahead-for-self-driving-cars-on-motorways Plans for cars to drive themselves on UK motorways as soon as 2021 are unlikely to go ahead after insurers warned government proposals were risking lives and “hugely wrong”. -
BMW 5 Series E60 - High rate of battery discharge & starting problems 7 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I bought a 2005/05 BMW 530d M-Sport at the weekend that is in great condition, with full service history and all of the paperwork. It drives like a dream. As I was driving it home from where I bought it, and sitting in heavy London traffic, the i-drive popped up suddenly to say "central electronics failure - you are unable to continue your journey. -
An Open Letter To Car Drivers 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
t stop and think of the many hours we?re held up by ?shunts? on the motorways and at junctions and roundabouts by 4/5/6 cars driving into the back of each other caused dimply by lack of concentration and bad driving. Yet, you criticise us for bad driving when a lorry has an accident, it?s always because he fell asleep, or was driving like an idiot. -
The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 15 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
At his last court appearance in Barnsley, North persuaded magistrates he was indeed a responsible driver. The court took the unusual step of imposing a driving ban to run concurrent with the ban another court had imposed just two weeks earlier. ?I know it sounds like an excuse,? says North, ?but I am just a hard-working professional who drives a lot of miles. -
Renault Captur PHEV - Test Drive 20 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Secondly, it uses a 1.6 normally aspirated engine, which isn't used elsewhere in the range, and that seems to suit the concept better than repurposing a smaller turbo engine. The car itself drives very nicely, it's comfortable and the interior is much better (i.e. less grey) than most. The only problem is the boot is small. The back seat slides forward to make it bigger, but that leaves zero leg room. -
Seat Leon PHEV - Test Drive 16 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I just had a test drive in one of these. I wasn't planning to buy one before, but my local garage is an excellent Seat franchise, so I thought it was worth a look. A very odd car. Very comfy, but the interior is all a bit...grey.
