Fuel efficiency - when to switch 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The only other complication is that the Mrs. is taking her driving test (end of Feb), and would prefer not to haul around a large exec saloon, but I'm not sure there's much we can do about that as it would be madness to buy a second car and for me to drive the fuel-hungry Volvo 70 miles/day while she kept the less thirsty car for occasional trips to the supermarket. Of course any trade-in of my car would probably cost about £1k in dealer profit, etc. -
Can I endorse Miller Oils' Diesel Power Eco Max for DPF care, as used in my Vauxhall Zafira? 12 Aug 2012 (Ask HJ)

Fuel Consumption (again) 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Well further to various discussions on the subject, I decided to try out using some Millers diesel additive with my regular fill up with Supermarket diesel in my Scenic. Normally I get low 40s mpg. Well I was proud as punch when, just before I went to fill it again, that my trip computer was telling me that I had averaged 49mpg! Wow , this Millers is great!! -

I have started to cycle 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I used to be able to cycle 40 miles 8 years ago but have since lost the fitness. My misses is even getting a bike so we can cycle to the supermarket eventually ( not the one we like but the nearest one - its more expensive but still cheaper than buying the extra fuel ). We got fed up bouncing along the overdraft point these last couple of months despite both of us working and never leaving the house unless going to work or to buy food. -

Help - which used family car to buy? £5500 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have read on here the sage of diesels repair costs and am now very hesitant to go for these though. The difference in fuel and tax costs of diesel to petrol for me would be about £700 a year though by my calculations, in favour of diesel obviously. Any advice welcome - I am nearly out of ideas entirely. -
Ibiza - Fiesta or Ibiza? Any recs? 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking for a small car, preferably 3 doors, with air con that will be reliable to run, won't drink fuel and will drive well. I quite like the look of the Fiesta and Ibiza - any opinions on either one or anything else similar? Budget about £9k plus whatever pennies I get for trading in the Puma! -
Peugeot 2008 1.2 EAT6 130 - 3 yr progress report 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Up to around 500 miles it was reading 50.3 mpg, but latterly more local short trips. Both trips now reset to zero. Fuel usually supermarket E10, but latterly Shell E10 as local Shell station now consistently cheaper than supermarkets, which nowadays seem to cartel rather than compete. Overall, v satisfied.....but still in its infancy. -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.4 heater 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
HI ALL.... following on from a diffo post....about my hi fuel consumption.... my heater only blows cold air i read that the clio's suffer from the heater matrix clogging/scaling up so i tried this.... take off the hoses from the the matrix where it goes though the bulkhead...i put some clear tubing onto the in/outlets of the matrix....blew though some air to remove some more water and elevated the hoses and filled with heavy duty descaler from the supermarket...the type you have to leave to work.....i left it for 5 hrs and a lot of cr#p came out when i flushed it ....put it all back together again ....while this hasnt cured it 100% i now have warmer air and the stuff i used recomends leaving it for 8hrs....but i couldnt....this may seem like a bit of mucking about but its that or taking the dashboard out to fit a new matrix....so i'm gonna do it another couple of times to see if it helps... i'll post the results as and when .....AL........ -
Mazda 3 1.6 tdi - At a loss as to what to do now! 22 Oct 2019 (Forum)

Backroom Predictions for 2004 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
That is far more relevant for the average motorist. Optimax I travel the same journey each week. When using Optimax it takes 1.5 tankfulls. Using Supermarket fuel I do the same journey on less than a tankfull, my acceleration is much better, the car is much quieter and I know the the supermarket additives will produce cleaner emissions. However I do take heed of HJ\'s advice and I buy all my groceries from the local Shell garage. -
Any - Accuracy of mpg computers 26 Jun 2022 (Forum)
On return from this 'brim to brim' trip, computer no. 2 reads 1377 miles, 47.0mpg, 48 avr. mph. Actual (E10) fuel used (Tesco, E Leclerc and Intermarche supermarkets) was 137.90 litres which gave a true figure of 45.4 mpg, so the computer is roughly 3% out. The long distance ensures that a large error of plus or minus 3 litres is needed to alter that by only plus or minus 1mpg. -
Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 (115) - Focus going into Limp Mode 22 Jan 2015 (Forum)
The other point to add is once the car is warmed up it runs fine, I've just taken it for a 15 mile drive, really gave it some stick, no problems. Could it be fuel related? It has only started happening since I filled up at a supermarket station from empty. -
Volkswagen Tiguan SUV (2008 - ) - Broke down 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)
New Tiguan, 2 months old, 2000 mls, had a run to Manchester yesterday to see the daughter at University. Went down to my usual supermarket and topped up with diesel, on the way out in second gear does not seem to have any power, pull in, switch off, switch back on and glow plug light flashing plus message to get in touch with dealer. -
Service not done when told it would be 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Went to our local Car supermarket at {location deleted, as you're making an accusation against them} on the bank holiday weekend and purcahsed a clio 172 for the missus. When we was finalising the deal i said that as the car was due a service, i wanted a full service carried out on the car as part of the deal.
