  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 (auto) diesel misfiring 16 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Ford had remapped the injectors and loaded new software more times than I care to think about, so its probably not that. I averaged 46 mpg over the trip to Spain, running at 80 ish all the way so there cannot be much wrong with the car, but it would be nice to figure out what the problem is once and for all Any ideas?
  • Pinto valve gear 17 May 2006 (Forum)
Is and injected 1983 Pinto engine in a Ford Scorpio provided with hydraulic tappets? My hostess's example here in the mountains of S. Spain sounds tappety at 197k kilometres. Does it need its clearances adjusted, or have the hydraulic tappets worn out? Fast response wd be much appreciated. Lud
  • Citroen Cash Backs 16 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Reminds me when we used to stick a stripe on the side, a sunroof on the top, call it "Special Edition", ramp the price up by a grand and offer the mugs £1000 minimum p/x on literally anything as long as it didn't need feeding or taking for walkies! Roger in Spain
  • Mercedes V class 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
It's only done 26K and has had water pump failure, self leveling suspension failure, driveshaft failure sunroof problems, eng/manag switch fault, pad wear sensor fault neccessitating their replacement. Fed up of typing now..... Still, what do you expect when they're built in Spain? Probably built by someone who'd had a gallon of Sangria...
  • Exporting from UK 22 May 2003 (Forum)
I am currently working in Spain and will be here for about another year. I remember that there used to be a scheme (set up initially for military people posted abroad) which enabled you to reclaim the VAT on a UK registered car which was taken abroad for over 6 months.

  • Jaguar Classics - E Type 1970 - Classic car aircon 15 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I wish to have the original aircon system re-commissioned, and since I live in Spain, local professionals do not have much experience of this work. Could anyone please detail a procedure to enable us to regas the system using a currently available refridgerant? As far as I could tell, the compressor - Tecumseh HG 500 - worked correctly prior to dismantling of the system as part of a comprehensive mechanical overhaul of the car.

  • Preparing For a Continental Trip 27 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Got the fluorescent jackets, bulb kit, fire extinguisher, documentation and warning triangle tucked away in the Hyundai coupe ready for my trip to Spain and France. What are the latest thoughts about headlights? I've set them to the lowest position in years past and sometimes used duck tape (after polishing the polycarbonate lens to limit the amount of stiction).
  • Why there is no British automotive manufacturer? 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I think we can't just argue over cost perspective citing India/China because similar economy countries like Germany, USA, Czech Rep, Spain, France, Japan etc. can all successfully run their own automotive business. So, what's been fundamentally wrong in Britain?
  • Auction Report from Sevilla 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Thanks HJ for above. Am currently in the process of changing cars here in Spain. EurotaxGlass's suggest a dealers' margin of 25-30%, and my experience seems to bear this out. This must be set against a local market where registrations grew 17% last year (it's all the expats - is there anybody left in UK?).
  • room with a view 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Just spent a few days in Spain, much of it being driven in roomy 20 year old Peugeot 206 (still going strong), and one thing that struck me was the fabulous all round vision - thanks to deep windows. Today's designs involve ever higher "waistlines" and, particularly for young passengers, less chance to see out.
  • Tyre price comparisons 9 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have just had two tyres replaced on the my Skoda Fabia tdi. I am just interested in knowing what would be a typical UK price for this (I live in Spain) Two Michelin Energy 185.60 R14 H, balancing, 2 valves, balancing, wheel alignment (needed!) total cost, inc VAT 188.62 Euros or about 130 quid. Oh - natioal chain similar to Kwik Fit, labour rate 30.02 euros per hour - about £20.75 and they checked the brake pads & discs!
  • Any - Driving in Spain - recent experience 7 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi, just back from Northern Spain and thought I'd share some of the experience. On some points I'd be interested in any ex-pat views. First the roads are excellent and quiet with even remote mountain roads better than our local a-road UK surface.
