  • diesel additive - Diesel clean up V Dies 28 Jun 2005 (Forum)

  • NCAP, safety, smart motorways and safest fuel? 11 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I don't think an electric car would be any better either, if the fragile lithium battery in a mobile phone can ignite when bent under an airline seat. Maybe diesel is the safest fuel?  My brother’s diesel fuel line split, spilling diesel over a hot exhaust.  No problem, switch off engine, fix hose, drive away again. Your thoughts?
  • Mondeo 1.8 TDCI 2009 - Diesel Knock & Judder 4 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I have had the fuel filter changed and a new fuel pressure regulator fitted but is still the same, acceleration is very good and fuel consumption is also good, I have found the car runs a little better on a better grade of fuel.
  • Diesel fuel filters, changed too often? 7 Jan 2016 (Forum)
With due apologies for touching on this topic before,I have cut another fuel filter open for examination. I have suspected for a long time that diesel fuel filters have an easy life using normal pump fuel. Drained and `opened` the canister type fom one car at the service yesterday, it was clean inside and not one drop of water.

  • Why be bothered about fuel consumption? 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I was wondering why people get so worried about fuel consumption and less concerned about other costs for the car that negate any saving? It seems a lot of people buy a diesel but dont think about either depreciation or cost of servicing, or just other general running costs.

  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Diesel recommendations in the owner's manual 5 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I was browsing the owner's manual for the new Mondeo (like you do), and came across the fuel recommendations. It was surprisingly open, saying that any diesel that meets the EN590 standard is fine. Also 5% biodiesel is fine too. I would have thought after all the hoo-ha from dealers about "quality fuels" for the latest-generation common-rail motors, the manual would be more specific than that.
  • Running diesels on vegetable oil 22 May 2004 (Forum)
I've heard that it is possible to run diesel engines on vegetable oil, but that additives are required. What are the additives? Does it affect the engine life? Is the fuel economy as good as it would be on diesel? This is for a Kubota lawn mower.
  • Diesel Engines 27 Feb 2003 (Forum)
As a converted diesel user could someone explain why on new family sized cars the turbo-diesel car costs approx. £1000 more than the petrol equivalent. Also why are we the only Country in Europe where diesel fuel costs more than petrol.
  • All makes and models - Possibly the end of the fuel debate? 20 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Asda is middle of the road diesel, but he said any modern diesel car should stay away from supermarket fuels apart from tesco and use either BP ultimate or Shell v power or equivalent as they need the extra dose. Was a very interesting conversation, I wont bore you all with the rest but perhaps one step closer in the debate.
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 2.0 diesel -fuel warning light and remaining miles 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have had my Mazda6 2.0 diesel since late October. This week I let the fuel run lower than usual before re-filling (waiting for my fuel card but that's another story)... ... so it had got down to below a quarter of a tank with the "miles remaining" readout heading to single digits.
