6 'Fan' belts shredded!! 1997 VW Polo 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Three garages can't see any rubbing & are at a loss. £600 has not remedied the problem. Any ideas are more than welcome. Interestingly, alignment seems ok, but the alternator pulley has 6 grooves, whereas the belts & other pulleys only have 5!?! -

Escort steering problem. 9 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Sometimes it is very marked but other times it is only slight; it is usually worse after making a full-lock turn and it can veer to the left or the right. I have had the wheel alignment checked and that is fine. I originally thought it may be a suspension problem, i.e. worn dampers, which had only become noticeable when new springs were fitted, but surely this would result in the car veering to one side only and would happen all the time. -
Accident Damage from dealer 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The other person admited liability and the car has been repaired. However when the garage put the car on their 4-wheel alignment machine they found that the back was massively out. It turns out that the rear axle was 'bent'. The mechanic and I came to the conclusion that this must have happened at a different time (before I had the car). -
Fiat Panda 1000 1990 9 Nov 2002 (Forum)
In the Haynes book it looks straight forward to replace with a spring compressor and ball joint splitter; is it so? What size ball joint splitter will I need? Will any of the alignments need resetting when it's reassembled? After 20+ years it's good to be doing something with cars again, but those days it was the cars that were rusty - now it's me. Thanks if anyone can advise, AT -
Three cheers for Micheldever Tyre Services 19 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I was expecting expertise, which indeed I got along with cheerful and efficient service, but the the best surprise was to find the prices to be nearly £40 per tyre less than my local Kwik Fit. I also had a comprehensive alignment check done for £18 and a camber correction done for a further £18. No wonder HJ keeps telling his readers about Micheldever. P.S. If you want to avoid a queue, 9.45 a.m. is a good time. I was in and out within half an hour. -
Winners and Losers - Crash protection 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Interestingly he drives a Saab saloon but years ago many of his colleagues drove Lada Riva , again rear wheel drive cars which have the longitudal strength needed to to align the gearbox with the rear axle. He remembers vividly a MB slicing through a peugeot 405 with the worst outcome for all except the MB occupants. Another hazard is modern A/C refridgerant which is flammable, petrol cars as opposed to diesel and hybrid cars which cause problems when they catch fire? -
Opel/Vauxhall - Meriva EPS (Power Steering) Fault 20 Mar 2019 (Forum)
It is a Portuguese car (and is still in Portugal) but I know from the Internet that this is a well known fault with Vauxhall Merivas. The garage has advised me that the steering column alignment has been adjusted but they believe that the fault will re-occur and that a new steering column is required (hugely expensive!!). I have heard that there are other possible solutions such as a replacing the Steering Angle sensor or Torque Position sensor. -
Vauxhall Astra J - Steering feels light 9 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Admittedly the car has not misbehaved in terms of spinning or sliding however I do not feel comfortable driving the car when the steering is so light. Last week I had two brand new front tyres put on and the wheels aligned as I felt this may be causing the issue. However this has not fixed the problem and the steering feels just as light. Any ideas what this could be and what sort of price I am looking at to get it repaired? -
13 pin caravan plugs. 5 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Corrosion mainly due to being exposed during winter storage. I have a new one from Sealey. Different assembly but have worked out the alignment it is now just the wiring. Not all the colours are the same as the wiring diagram, but I have the old plug and the wires that connect it from where I cut it off. Not all the terminal are numbered on the new plug. -
All cars - MOT History Check 2 May 2017 (Forum)
https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ A quick scan can tell you quite a lot, for example; an aquaitance with a local garage was offering me a pristine car with low mileage for a 10 year vehicle and a credible story but when I checked it out them mileage had gone down 16,000 miles the year before. On another car from a dealer the reasons for failing (headlights alignment, suspension coils) suggested it might have been in a front end collision. The site doesnt guarantee you get a great deal but it can tell you quite alot reading between the lines and at least you can steer clear. -

Peugeot 206 - Central locking wiring diagram 31 Jan 2015 (Forum)
<*** class="inlineimg" style="vertical-align: middle;" title="Default" src="http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif" border="0" alt="Default" /> 206 central locking wiring Can some help please,I have a peugeot 206 the central locking doesn't work even with the key, I have ordered a aftermarket central locking unit which I plan on fitting so the central locking bypasses the bsi unit so it is independent, I have a peugeot wiring diagram but aren't 100 percent clear on it, the question is can someone explain it in simple terms I.e pink lock white unlock and so on,I previously did this on another as I got a basic wiring diagram which explained which wire did what. -

Just when you think you've got a good 'un... 13 Jul 2012 (Forum)
A whine from the timing belt saw me back there today to have the tension reduced, and while he was under the bonnet he noticed the belt is riding off to the side again and the head has been off at some point. Something is out of alignment somewhere, I'm thinking the best option is just to run it for three/four years and replace the timing belt early, and if it lunches itself then it's probably cheaper to fit a second-hand engine than start dismantling the existing one. -
Ford Fiesta - Shock absorbers 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Anyway, I'm sure i saw on TV a few years ago about a garage that had a special ramp like they can do laser wheel alignment on (mine were 3mm out last tyre change btw) but it did a computer test of shock absorber efficiency per wheel by an electronic bounce test and gave a % figure per wheel, anyone haerd of this or a garage that does it? -
Any tyre Gurus here ? 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Have had a few issues with a BMW AUC car I bought a few weeks back and have been complaining about the pulling to the left almost ever since. The car has now been KDS and was found to be out of alignment. This has been done at their cost (thankyou) I do however, feel that the tyre should also be replaced as to me it is worn on the inner edge. The salesman (and tyre tech) say that the tyre does not need replacement ? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99t 1.9td steering overpulling when cornering 1 Nov 2008 (Forum)

It has 120k on the clock as always thank you in advance for any suggestions very much appreciated -
Marks on a motorcycle swingarm 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
So why is it seemingly beyond the manufacturers to make the little marks used to gauge chain adjustment on the swingarm accurate enough to set up the rear wheel alignment by? It seems ridiculous that the only satisfactory method of doing this, which is also used by the MOT man, is to stick a straight bit of wood or metal either side of the wheel and line it up by eye against the front wheel? -
cmax recalls? 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
hello, a few months back i was reading the Society of Operations engineers magazine and it had a whole bunch of recalls that it had pulled off of VOSA. one of the recalls i noticed was for the Cmax. the falut was said to be ' a mis-alignment of the oil feed up to the camshaft bearings' it goes on to say that the falut can cause premature wear to the bearings and/or engine failure. the trouble is it doesn't give much info on vehicle spec. no chassis numbers, doesn't say whether its petrol or diesel variant. it does however give a quantity of vehicles affected, 160. after numerous calls to ford, avoiding my helpless dealership, they couldn't tell me anything about this so called fault. has any body heard or dealt with this fault. i am concerned a little due to my car only having a year left on the warranty> cheers peeps!
