    He treated this and replaced the crank shaft sensor also the battery as it was not holding its charge and the computer says ready to start? But the car will still not start. It wants to start but just won’t kick in to ignite :-(

    Not only have I wasted taxi fare in my rush to get there before they closed, but more pressingly, I am due to drive to Pembrokeshire on holiday tomorrow! Am I right to be nervous or is this something easy to fix?  Why has the battery suddenly failed to charge?  Why can't they find the fault?  Will I get my car back tomorrow?!

  It stops after 15-20 seconds. The immobiliser also seems to prevent starting. I have tried: - Disconnecting the battery (the alarm goes off) and reconnecting before quickly trying to start the car 30 seconds later (alarm was still going off) whilst depressing the button on the right of the steering column. - Entering with a key and attempting to start whilst depressing button - Entering using fob and attempting to start whilst depressing button I am assuming that the battery got a bit flat (haven't driven for 3-4 days) and reset it?

    However 18 months ago, I parked it in the garage and it had some petrol in it which contained up to 10% ethanol.  The next time I tried to start it the battery was dead, and due to other things that came up I did not have the time or money to sort it out.  I have recently replaced the battery, oil, oil filter and spark plugs, with an air filter on order (My local store wanted $72 for a replacement).

    So before I buy this any ideas??? - i mean the fault is P0401 EGR... LAST NOTE:- just prior to all this, battery totally died, so replaced it - P0401 came on very shortly after this - although I can't see a connection unless when new battery was connected it put a spike through the ECU causing reoccuring spurious code - again any ideas welcome....?

  Once started and run for a while, the car performs excellently and starts well all day. Also excellent mpg. I have replaced the battery and glow plugs with new. However, first thing in the morning (cold), on starting, it fires once and then continues to crank for up to a miniute (sometimes longer, thank goodness for the new battery) slowly getting faster and faster and faster until it eventually fires and runs.

  i raised the point that it was fine when i left it with them. but they seem to be ducking this by saying the battery was flat when i left it there, which it wasnt. i also went to see the vehicle on saturday, connected the battery and started the engine and engaged the central locking on the key fob and there was no alarm sound as alleged by the service manager. can anyone guide me through this or suggest how i might deal with them tomorrow as i am not very experienced in this area.

  So I tried a new quality battery no issues all week, it was cold last night 1 degree so gave it a try this afternoon and the same thing happened position III for starting nothing turned back to position I then back to III held there for 2/3 seconds fired straight up, after letting it run for no more than a minute or so turned it off and tried again, this time started in the usual manner.

  On pressing the button the dash lights up, in particular a yellow light which looks like the engine (it is situated under the battery light and to the left of the hazards ie. bottom left of dash). This yellow light then 'clicks', extinguishes and I am then able to start the motor. Sometimes(1) when the light clicks and I turn over the motor, it dies almost immediately even if keeping the pedal to the metal.

  2. Lazy alternator When I start the car the battery light remains on till I rev over 2500 revs then it goes out until the next restart of the engine. The belts have recently been changed. 3. Airbag light The Airbag warning comes on when I'm cruising at around 3000 revs when warmed up.

  It is also on it's second battery, which has made no difference and the altenator is apparently OK. I am now based in the south-east and have taken the car several times to my local VW dealer who has tried various things without success and now just says he has done all he can and I will just have to lump it or words to that effect.

  It is most commonly caused when an electrical component or accessory somewhere in the vehicle loses ground usually from a broken or loose wire. When electrical devices lose their normal electrical path to the chassis or battery ground the current seeks out any other failure route. In most cases of radiator or heater failure loose or missing grounds can be traced to electrical cooling fans or relays. Another cause is bad ground wire from the engine to chassis.

  Anyway, some bright spark in the back says he thinks he knows what it might be - an oil sensor connected to the power steering: when braking and turning at the same time (that's when it usually happens) he reckons it puts such a load on the battery that it cuts out. Now, is this just a tale to get me off their back or could it be that after two years my problems could finally be over? (It's also had to have a new alarm sensor recently because it kept going off - isn't that sometimes battery related?

  t find any obvious faults. Eventually, I removed the fuse to the alarm. Next day, it won?t start ? flat battery, so that?s re-charged. Lasts a few days and its flat again. It?s an original battery, so I replace it. While replacing it I check the current draw for the whole car; 300mA. I tried the Ford website ?

  Soon to be putting my Volvo mk1 C70 auto away in the garage for autumn/winter hibernation, and I have a battery pack at the ready, though I'll be getting her out once a month to allow her to run for a good few mins.   The question I have is, would it be worthwhile leaving the car in 'neutral' and with the handbrake off?

  Electric 28mph scooter, delivered "new" with 2 miles on the clock the other month. Battery charged up in 1.5hrs. Put the key in, all lights, bells & whistles activate, then immediately shut down. Keeps doing that. Any ideas please? Thank you ...or if not, any ideas where to go(polite answer, haha).

  hi, van recently started playing up, was difficult to start it with key, it turns over no problem but fails to start up - almost like it has an immobilizer problem it will however bump start very easily, the turnover is nice and fast so i am sure it is not a battery problem, a friend has put a diagnostic on but the readings are a bit odd - it seemed to imply it had a POST-heat problem (not pre-heat)  any ideas?   cheers Russell

  Going forward a few years, had the question been posed then, maybe worth bearing in mind that if that had been a this current years electric car, in all probability at 9 years old then it would have been looking at vast expence of replacing batteries! Just a thought from a guy with a few pre '85 W123 Mercs.

  Hi been along time since I brought a ford lol First  car is second hand  Came with one key fob and the small key that fits inside . The key fob battery  Requird which I did but I think I lost the  little  spring hence I lost the key Car works starts etc but I need a new key ?? any ideas please cheap would be good There was no key number on the fob either would appreciate any advice  ??

  We then progressed to the code P1A9C.  A quick Google told him that it related to the accumulator battery and stop-start system - two devices not even fitted to his car.
