  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - (91-95) TDi Fuel Filter Change 18 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Need to change the fuel filter on my Audi 80 TDI but I can't get hold of a manual. Its a screw in type located in a metal holder and it appears that a clamp bolt needs loosening before the filter can be removed. Grateful to know the procedure and whether there is a bleed device on the top of the filter holder.
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - R Reg - RL auto-high fuel consumption 5 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Renault Clio petrol automatic,R reg, this car seems to be using a lot of fuel.It is mainly used for short urban trips, and does maybe 20-25 mpg.It has been serviced recently so I guess the filters are ok,any ideas what could be causing this? faulty fuel pump?
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - Y reg - Fuel Gauge not registering properly 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I have a y reg VAUXHALL ZAFIRA and the fuel gauge doesn't seem to register correctly. It is quite erratic with the indication. I has an ASTRA a few years ago which did a similar thing and there was a chip in the rear of the dash display. I changed it and it seemed to cure the problem.
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Fuel Flap 6 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Just taken delivery of my new Mondeo but was disappointed to discover that the fuel flap does not have a locking mechanism. A simple push to open, and with no filler cap to remove its easy to fill up, but, with the right size tube inserted the tank is also open to any other abuse.
  • Adding Acetone To Fuel 27 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi Guys, Can anyone comment on the suggestion that adding small amounts of acetone to your fuel will produce 10-30% increases on your mpg. Is this fact or fiction? I've done some reaserch but am not yet that convinced to stick some in my Clio. If the chemistry behind the theory is correct then there should be no reason why this isn't true.
  • Unleaded fuel additive 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have an engine which has not been converted for unleaded fuel. I have been using Carplan/Tetrosyl lead replacement additive. This was a manganese based product, which they now no longer manufacture, Carplan do another additive which is potassium based. I have read on a Historic Vehicle site that you should be consistent in the additive that is used; presumably this means the base element, rather than the manufacturer.
  • Ford Falcon Classic Dual Fuel 3 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I am unsure of running the dual fuel and hope to get an explaination of the finer details. So far I understand that I must start the car in petrol and then switch to gas. Does this mean every single time? And how long must I idle in petrol before switching?
  • Fuel Duty Escalator Again? 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
This time from the Tories: "Tories plan 'painful rises' in car and air tax" "This is about rebalancing taxation so that, yes, you will pay more in green taxes. You will, for example, see the reintroduction of a fuel duty escalator, I'm quite sure," Mr Norris told BBC Radio 4's World at One." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/09/01/ntory01.xml Kevin...
  • 306 fuel cap drain holes 30 May 2006 (Forum)
just wondered if any1 new if the drain holes where the fuel filler cap is would drain into the boot? The reason being that ive had a leak at the back of the boot (where the jack sits) for a while and couldnt work out where from. I noticed these drain holes and wondered if this could be the cause?
  • New Fuel Protest Threats Wed 14 Sept 13 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hugo - BR Moderator http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4221296.stm or just hot air? I understand that in Portugal they have the ability to reduce the amount of tax on fuel in situations like this, sounds like a reasonable idea to me, after all £1 a ltr is expensive, especailly if your business depends on it.
  • Premium fuels 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
This is in my 60k Passat 130, I was wondering if VAG PD engines respond particularly well to premium fuels or if this an across the board benefit?
  • Fuel Gauge Honda Civic 26 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi the Fuel gauge on my 1995 civic has started acting erratically, it has only done it twice, once when the tank was low, it started displaying over full, and once when 2/3 full again displaying over full eg off the scale.
  • Millers Diesel Power Plus 14 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I know H.J. is a strong advocate of the above product for keeping injectors clean and adding lubricity to the fuel to prolong fuel pump life. Its use has been discussed on this forum sometime ago, but I have run a search and been unable to trace any threads on the subject. As I do a lot of short runs with my diesel, I am considering using this fuel additive and would appreciate any feedback from any users in the B.R.
  • Fill 'er up 1 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I did that rare thing yesterday: read the handbook for my Golf VR6. It cautions against filling up beyond the first time the fuel pump nozzle cuts out, because, in warm conditions, there is a risk that the space allowed for expansion will be lost, forcing the fuel to overflow. I can't find similar advice in the MB manual, but presumably it is valid for all cars, in which case we should be careful in trying to get the tank brim full for the calculation of fuel consumption.
  • Diesel exhaust smells 26 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have a Galaxy TDI, my wife has a Scenic DTi. Both use fuel from the same pump at the same garage. Why do the exhaust gases smell different? The Renault's has a particularly distinctive whiff (and has done since new) which doesn't actually seem to change if a different brand of fuel is used, whereas I cannot really smell anything from the Gal, again irrespective of what brand of fuel I use.
  • Herald starting 22 Nov 2002 (Forum)
However, if I start it the day after it has been run, it jumps into life very quickly. I suspect, as the fuel pump is mechanical, the fuel drains back to the tank after a while and it takes a long time to get to the carbs. Should their be a one-way fuel valve somewhere? Anyone out there in HonestJohnLand got any bright ideas?
  • Noisy fuel pump 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Just nipped home for lunch in my Audi Coupe. Slowed down to turn into my drive, and... what's that whining noise? The previously silent fuel pump now sounds like someone has left a cordless power drill running in the boot. Any suggestions? I suspect this may be expensive. I left the car at home and came back in the Land Rover, as it is only 3 miles to work, so the AA wouldn't tow me home if the pump died on the way.
  • Fuel Mixtures 10 May 2001 (Forum)
I think my cars running a slightly rich mix (spark plugs were fairly black when I changed them) so... I know where to change the mixture but which way do I turn it?! Is in more fuel/richer mix or is out? The car's an '88 Audi 80 1.8 carb. I think the model of the carb is a Kleihn II or something similar to that. I know it's a bit tight fisted but I resent paying somebody to turn a screw!
