Abandoned Cars 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The topic of abandoned cars comes up often but today right outside a local Tesco Extra I saw a car I thought unlikely to see abandoned. A 1998 R reg BMW 5 Series 540i automatic. Who'd have thought someone would dump this. But I've not been for a few days and this car is not parked and someone has placed an abandoned car notice inside on the dash. Apart from someone's smashed the rear tail lights (probably has a dodgey history) it looked in good condition. -
Brass block thread inserts The English Garage 20 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Just watched The English Garage on TV and saw them working on a BMW block. The block threads seemed to have gone and they re-tapped all of the the block threads to a larger diameter, screwed in brass inserts and then re-threaded the brass inserts so that the original diameter bolts could be used. -

Plain clothes police car on M6! 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I wonder if the boy racer has seen the Impreza and tried to race him? Nasty shock if he did! Also (to my amusement) saw 2 nice new BMWs s on the hard shoulder, a silver one having just shunted a black one. No one else involved. -

4x4 and turbo diesels insurance premiums 28 Feb 2007 (Forum)
"Owners of 4x4s are likely to bear the brunt of changes in the way car insurance is calculated. Drivers of Range Rovers, BMW X5s and Toyota Land Cruisers and other socalled Chelsea Tractors are likely to have to pay hundreds of pounds more for comprehensive insurance under a new risk assessment scheme to be announced. The changes are also likely to hit drivers of sporty diesels and even some mid-range hatchbacks... -
Posh VW's 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
These are initially aimed at the Phaeton & Toerag but will also cascade down to Passatt and Golfs etc. The i brand will be alomg similar lines to MB AMG and BMW M badges but will not necessarily focus on POWER - the R badges do that. The chrome i badges on the cars will signify more luxury and kit I think. But it will be marketed as being more exclusive than the standard VW badged cars. -

Used Mini prices 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Has anyone out there actually bought a used, new shape Mini? I ask because at the 2(BMW) dealers whose ads I see ,even 2 year old ones cost more than new ones(yes even with 'extras').Surely there can't be a long waiting list now and if they are supposed to hold there value, you might as well buy a new one with 5 years warranty! -
car maintenance contracts 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
We've got 6 laguna's at the minute - never again, all less than 2 years old and we've gone through 3 gearboxes ( 2 out of wararnty) all six clutch servos, and bills that BMW would be ashamed of. Dominic -
Fuel comparison tests 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
In the latest Jan. 2006 Evo magazine, there is an article on comparison tests on 8 different brands of petrol, including supermarket fuels. They used a Golf GTI and a BMW M5 and did rolling road tests to get power/torque figures, and on-road "driving feel" tests. Makes quite interesting reading. I know they did a similar thing on Fifth Gear recently, but I missed it. -
Comfortable ride 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
While driving, the car is kind of okay, but shakes and to be honest, I hate it! I want the ride to be as smooth as, say, a BMW. What would I need to replace/do to make that happen? I'm no mechanic, so I need help from you lot! -
E46 318Ci cutting out 11 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just concerned, if happens at **mph in the fast lane of a motorway, could be dangerous. Is this something that might have a BMW-specific cause, or is it likely to be a generic problem (fuel starvation, dodgy connection etc)? TIA, Alex. -- Dr Alex Mears Seat Leon Cupra If you are in a hole stop digging...unless you are a miner. -

A FSH for £3? 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I know that this would not work with some makes as the service records are computerised, but how many people ring up say BMW and check these things out. -
Mondeo ST Tdci 155. Depreciation 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've been focusing on a BMW/Audi as a replacement for my beloved ZT. However, I had a quick look at a mondeo ST Tdci 155 the other day. Nice looking car with lots of kit. I've seen them for around £15500. However, having been stung once with a mondeo (admittedly a previous shape 1.8 zetec) I'm reluctant to give it serious consideration. -
diesel drive 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have recently brought a BMW 530d(2002) automatic with 76000 miles on the clock-I have never driven a diesel or an automatic before. The car is fantastic to drive, however on pressure on the accelerator(not neceesary full pressure) it kind of propels forwards with a sudden thrust-as if it has been given a massive push from behind. Is this how it is meant to be and represents diesel/automatic drive or is there something I need to be worried about? -
Unrealistic Prices 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, I was having a perusal of EBAY and happened across a 9 year old BMW M3. Now one thing - I love my BM's - Dad's mate has a new M3 and it is absolutely gorgeous...but I digress. The bidding is at £6,600. That seems awfully steep for a car with 130,000 miles on the clock. -

Returning to UK 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Returning to UK after 3-1/2 years, and my previous insurers say that there is no way I can resume insurance with my full no-claims after this time out of the country; any of you know of insurers who will? I will have 9-10 grand to spend on a diesel saloon and was thinking of a 2000 BMW 320SE, or an Audi A4 1.9. Moving back to the north of Scotland so, judging by the car prices I may need to make a car purchase trip down south; any info welcome!
