• Audi A6 2.4 timing belt 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
  Hi folks, I\'ve got a 1998 2.4 A6 with 54000 miles. Audi recommend changing the belt around 60k which is when it\'s due for its next service. The worry is because I\'ve noticed a fairly quiet metallic clunk/pinking from the engine at idle. This noise is also fairly errtic and more noteable sometimes than others.

  I've just bought a 1996 Audi A4 TDI (reading 69,000miles)which pulls like a train and drives really nicely but once it's warmed up the idle becomes rough. It's as if a pot keeps missing though it never stalls. I've changed all the filters and tried injector cleaner but that doesn't seem to have made any difference.

  Alright folks, hope I've got the right sub-forum?! I was up looking at an 2009 Audi A3 1.4 TFSI earlier with a mate that works as a mechanic for Audi. He gave me the all clear on the car: no codes appeared, new engine, clutch and timing chain etc. Aside from a small bit of bubbling from the Manifold that he thinks is just a result of it not being tightened enough when the engine was put back together, all looks good!

   My car with 29,000 miles is OK when cold but after 8-10 miles and especially when hot after a motorway journey judders sometimes quite badly.  Problem was noticed at 10,000 miles but Audi dealership couldn't reproduce the problem.  The technician at Audi confirmed it was a problem about 10 days ago and the car is in the garage under warranty but the feedback so far today is that no problem can be diagnosed.
