When will they stop fleecing us 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
If for instance you want to drive from Sheffield to Leeds (picked as an example) and both had congestion charges you will have to pay 2 congestion charges plus parking plus huge taxes on your fuel etc etc When do BRers reckon it will end or will we be priced of the road in the name of the environment. within th enext 5-10 years. -
TDCi Focus cutting out 13 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Having rolled to a "safe" stop so far, the engine has then started fine straightaway. A friend has told me to check the fuel filter for contaminants as my fist step, is that correct? I thought that contaminated fuel would produce misfiring etc? What are your thoughts? Dave http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm? -
Road pricing is inevitable if...... 13 Jul 2007 (Forum)
VED is just a tax on possession, so I don't think could be morally justified at the level that would be needed to replace fuel duties. So if battery packs get better, get used to the idea coming to a road near you. -
Worst excuse from a mfr/dealer/tech 17 May 2007 (Forum)
They called me the next day, and I quote "We've been working on it all day, and managed to get around it for you this time, but if you run it out of fuel again, it'll definitely need a new ECU" Eh? Cheers DP -

Vectra Lambda sensor - faulty ? 15 May 2006 (Forum)
I've been told that lambda sensors are only good for 60k. Is this true? When it starts to fails, can it simply give incorrect readings thus causing high fuel consumption? -
Road Pricing 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
If our esteemed government is really serious about cutting congestion and not about raking in yet more stealth tax, then I propose the following simple remedy which will cut congestion and emmisions. Ration Fuel. All drivers will be allocated fuel vouchers. UK trucks that carry freight will obviously be allowed more. This would mean that the small efficient cars would do more miles,as would diesels. Of course this will never happen because we all know that all measures taken by the government to sort out congestion etc,are just a smokescreen to relieve the motorist of yet more money. -
Audi 80 starting problem 18 Jan 2006 (Forum)
One fine sunny morning it started as ususal and then when I started to set off it hesitated and stalled. After that it would not start. It turns over fine. There is spark at the plugs. there is fuel in the tank. Being member of the AA and having Home start I thought I would call them out. The man came out, spent approx 40 mins checking plugs, leads, fuel, filters, belts, fuses etc. and then in the end had to admit he didn't know what the problem was. -
1996 rover 400 wont start 13 Jan 2006 (Forum)
It started to play up about a 2 months ago being hard to start so i changed the heater plugs and the fuel filter, it then went great for about a month then started to get hard to start again and now it just wont start. I also changed the hand primer that sits tank side of the fuel filter as i was told it may be a faulty valve but that made no difference. -
Mk1 Mondeo Idling Issues.. :( 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
It can sit at idle for some time, the idle speed will vary between 1200rpm and 950... and then all of a sudden it will drop off... the engine will try to recover, but then it will drop off and stall. I does this in traffic as well. Fairly annoying... I believe the problem is fuel related, as its had new air filter etc.. Somebody I spoke to said it could be a split fuel distributer/valve or something, but Im not sure... Could be throttle position sensor... Is there a way of checking? -
Disasters & reliance on cars 24 Sep 2005 (Forum)
No we have the awful situation of people sitting in mainly gas guzzling cars using up precious and quickly disappearing fuel just to prevent themselves from baking in the sun. Nobody is going anywhere, fuel can't be delivered and nobody could get to it even if could. I'm sure my analysis is simplistic but can the US carry on in this vein? -
SAAB 900 Turbo.. Smart and easy to run? 4 Feb 2005 (Forum)
She wants something that looks smart and executive (she has a smart and executive job!) but doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a car. HOWEVER, a big consideration is fuel economy as she commutes 300 miles a week. So my questions are: SAAB 900 and 900 Turbo owners ? what do you think? How about fuel economy question ? most of the miles are along country roads. How was reliability? -
Passat TDI Chipped & Wow!! 1 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The sheer torque increase is fantastic and instead of foot down-delay-go its foot down-GONE. The car is atleast 30% more responsive and great fun to drive, the fuel econ has increased as an extra bonus over a 45 mile journey I clocked 55.7mpg compared to my before chipped reading of 48.0mpg. So my advice is get it done its well worth it and if you do lots of miles you will soon recoop your £305.00 in fuel savings alone. -
Fuel savers/magnets/ hot topic 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)

Ford Capri 2.8i gauges misbehaving 16 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The fuel gauge and temperature gauge on my 1984 Capri 2.8i are being perverse -- jointly. They are on the right-hand side of the dial cluster; they register maximum unpredictably, when I know there's not much fuel in the tank and that the engine temperature is normal. -
Good mid-sized auto diesel 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
If you want the auto option a lot of cars only seem to have a petrol available e.g. Ford Focus. It horrifies me the effect that some autoboxes have on fuel consumption e.g. Rover 75 1.8 Manual 36.2mpg, 1.8 Auto 30.1 - admittedly petrol but equally bad effect on the derv engine, there must be some which are much better than this. So basically what is a good mid sized diesel auto with reasonable fuel consumption? -
BP Argos Points - Caution 12 Sep 2002 (Forum)
When I managed to get a balance of the card it only showed £7.50 on it, which did not match the amount of fuel bought/cash spent/points saved. I complained to Premier Points, who informed me that VERY often, you pays for yer fuel by BP Card and hands over yer PP card. Thing is, the cashier's usually putting your card into the machine when you're signing your receipt. -
getting finer injection spray 12 May 2002 (Forum)
Now ever higher injection pressures are used to obtain better combustion more power and lower emissions, eg diesel engines with common rail and unit injector pumpe duse technology. Some gas turbine fuel injectors use vibration from piezo-electric vibrators to obtain a smaller fuel size droplet and hence enormous emission reduction benefits. What about applying this latter technique to cars/ trucks/ buses/ trains. -
Mondeo kangaroo 3 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Recently had a new fuel filter and housing fitted at same time as cambelt changed at regulation interval. Now I have, at 1500 approx revs the car going into some kangaroo hopping.juddering routine in gears 2 through 4 when crusing at those revs, say in traffic or slow cornering etc. -
Genesis 15 May 2023 (Forum)
I didn't know that Hyundai Genesis have entered UK market. The cars look stunning - both interior and exterior. The fuel economy is bit poor though.
