All - How many car diesel engine manufacturers? 16 Oct 2013 (Forum)
There seem to be about 4 types, 1.6, 2, 2.2 and 3 litre engines fitted (excluding some smaller ones). How many manufacturers are there of these 4 sizes. Do Audi, Renault/Nissan, Mercedes, BMW, Citroen/Peugeot, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar/Land Rover, VW/Seat, Honda, Chrysler, Toyota, Hyundai etc all make their own? If not, from whom do they buy the engine? -
£3k budget suggestions 7 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Ive looked at Mazda 6 as they seem cheapish and could possibly get up to an 05 for the budget, BMW 316/8 on a 52 plate but have hit a block on anything else. Any thoughts and suggestion would be appreciated. -
Mazda 6 new model 7 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I'd have another 6 - don't really care for the 19" wheel option and it's disappointing that they're not doing a hatchback but it is a good looking car, and they've souped it up a bit whilst lowering the VED. I don't see the point of comparing it to a BMW though; to my mind it's not pointing at the same market. I usually see families using them rather than them being repmobiles. -
Focus ST 17 Jun 2012 (Forum)
If I had a bunch of children/dogs/stuff to put in a car but wished to keep 'driving' instead of 'transporting', it'd be a great bet if cars like the BMW Tourings were out of my price range. Also hopefully this means that the existing ST will start to drop in price in the used market (it's on my list...) -
MINI One - Overheating Engine - Garage Negligence 20 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I had a new radiator fitted on my BMW Mini One in July however this morning my engine overheated. I suspect it is due to the garage using coolant mix that was mainly water and lacked antifreeze and as it was -10c this morning, my radiator has frozen? -
Neighbours cars,patterns? 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Looking outside much earlier this frosty morning(baby stuff)i took note of my neighbours choice of transport and it seems Japanese is the most popular on our street,we have an Accord, two houses to the left both have Civics, two to right a Jazz and another Civic, over the way a CRV and a Mazda 6 this across a wide age range 30 to 80. We have a few BMW's but a distinct lack of anything French, anything dominate your street ? -
How much do you expect a service to cost? 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I was talking to a mate who had just had a routine service on a Bmw 3 series 3 litre W reg and it set him back around £1200. Of course the actual service was no where near that but with extras like a brake caliper and pads etc it soon added up. Safety items can't be ignored of course but I am curious as to what people expect to pay when the garage gives you the bill. -
Car Evolution - why no "Mark" models anymore 18 May 2009 (Forum)
IIRC The Cortina, for example, went up to Mark V and I can visualise each of them based on that. However nowadays Audis, BMW, Mercs etc etc all have strange code numbers with each revised model. Why do they not all just go down the "Mark" route? Make my life easier!!! -
Health & Safety gone mad! Police sells motorbikes 11 May 2009 (Forum)
Northumbria Police is getting rid of its £200,000 motorcycle fleet over health and safety fears. The police force decided to sell off all the Honda and BMW bikes after deciding that officers using them were "particularly vulnerable to collision". http://tinyurl.com/c8jjy4 When I read this I despair for the future..... {edited to include a brief write up of the article, so as to make less vague} -
National pride or what ? 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I was standing there having my pre-arbeit morning stogie when it sort of came to me that almost all the cars lined up in the car park were German made. In the row I could see and count there were 32 assorted Mercs, BMWs, Audis and VWs. One lonely Mazda. Probably says a lot about why they still have a car industry.......... -
Do people really care about warranty? 9 Aug 2008 (Forum)
articleid=17852 Kia and Hyundai's market share (based on no of cars sold in July 2008) % are 1.47 and 1.30 respectively. Compared to, Ford 15%, Vauxhall 14%, VW 8%, BMW/Peugeot/Toyota/Renault/Audi all hovering around 5% Citoren [3.74%] sold more than Mercedes [3.38%] I don't know how fleet sales can skew the numbers though. -
Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 98 1.9 TDI Turbo maintenance 16 May 2008 (Forum)
Hello, I've been reading a lot of information on turbo failures on cars like BMW 320D models. Just wondering is there any maintenance that needs to be carried out on turbos besides the normal oil, oil filter & fuel & air filter change. My passat has 170,000 miles on the clock and I'd like it to stay climbing gracefully without problems ;-) Thank you, Carlover -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W211 (2002 - 2009) - Why Merc E-Class as a taxi 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
There may be a simple answer to this, but why are E-Class Merc's still so common as Taxis in so many countries? I don't think I've ever seen a BMW 5 series Taxi, but they have more room in the back, similar sized boots and better fuel economy, am I missing something? -

Trader - no test drive? 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I looked at an SLK 320 tonight. The trader was at his house (mansion) with about 25 BMWs & Mercs on the driveway. He said he'd just washed it etc for others to look at. I think he thought I was a test pilot, not serious etc as I was vague about the other cars I had seen. He said I could drive it if I agreed to buy it first, ie I'd be driving it to test it was OK, not to try it out. -
Price when new of an older car 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I need to know the new list price for an M reg BMW 318i SE - but i cant find it! Can anyone help? The accountant will need it for P11d stuff (dont ask why this was on as a company car - its not anymore!). I usually use parkers for list prices, but that only goes back as far as R. -
Nissan Primera - how to Auto lock doors 18 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Does anyone know if/how it is possible to get the car to automatically lock all the doors once you reach a certain speed i.e. 5mph I know my friend has manage to do this with his VW Golf and BMW by hooking up a laptop to his car and adjusting a setting somewhere. So was wondering if there is a similar way to do this with the Nissan Primera? If so any explanation / steps on how to do this would be appreciated =) -
Next Generation VTEC 28 May 2007 (Forum)
Honda have filed a patent on AVTEC for a fully variable valve timing and lift system. The only one currently on the market currently is BMW?s Valvetronic, which also removes the need for a throttle butterfly. Every other system as of today has fully variable valve timing, but valve lift is only switchable between two fixed profiles. -
Peugeot 207 cc 16 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Doesn't seem to be quite the same quality as a F Focus or VW Eos and of course has only 2 tiny rear seats but has a good spec and a bmw designed 120bhp engine and 'only' costs £14795. Plus there offering free insurance, fairly cheap finance, and an amazing £750 for my Merc 190 with dent(if you recall).Like to know anyones views on this car or have experience with the 207 hatchback or the 206 cc?
